    the cornish accent of a man born before 1900 would have sounded quite different it would have sounded more like accents that are more to the east of Cornwall.
    this is evident in German-made recordings of British WWI P.O.W.'s now residing in a Berlin sound archive all of the regional accents are vastly different than their counterparts today and are more like the nearby regional accents of today.
    think of the Oxfordshire accent eh, time team's Phil Harding and you're closer to what Robert Hitchens sounded like.
