🔴 NOT LEGAL ADVICE
Hearing the family speak brought tears to my eyes… this entire case is heartbreaking! The fact that BOTH sides of the family have come together in support of Lyle and Eric speaks volumes. 💔🥺🙏🏼😭
They know perfectly well that Jose was tough and rough and rude...
Agree 💯 !!!
Agreed. This type of support suggests an embrace by the family if the men came forward at the time instead of premeditating murder. What could have been.
They do NOT pose a threat to the public and 35 years is a very long time served!
Times have changed.
Back then a lot of things were kept behind the family door. Trauma wasn't spoken about like it is now. Emotions weren't expressed, they were suppressed which equalled Depressed.
So I'm glad times have changed and that these brothers are set free ❤
Mr Tregos, I am. 78 year old woman who was raised by an abusive (physical and mental) father. I and my older sister often talked about how we wished we had had a brother who could have helped us kill our father. So when the Mendenez trial was happening, I shared with many people, who were appalled, when I told them I understood why the brothers did what they did. Only those who had experienced similar circumstances understood and still understand.
❤❤❤
I'm so sorry you suffered like that. It is heartbreaking to see clips of the trial & witness the pain & suffering the Menendez brothers were subjected to all their lives.
I hope you were able to find safety & healing in your situation. No one deserves that. ❤
I understand the shame silence and suffering you went through. My son was abused by his father and it affects everyone. My first reaction was to shoot my ex. Children don't make stuff like that up and a mother needs to be a protective. I let the law deal with it. 🙏💗🕊️
I understand ❤
Many Kill/murder and then go to prison to do the time. I am not sure if the brothers are better now than then.
Always appreciate the law being explained in layman’s terms. Thank you, Peter, for your help in this.
I am almost 60 yrs old . I am a victim of sexual abuse. I was 9-13 yrs old. It has taken me most of my life and numerous therapy visits to put my life together. Because of the lack of knowledge back when I was abused I feel is the reason it's taken soo long. Unfortunately I'm not the only one! I feel people my age are the ground breaking group for the future . A lot has changed since the 70s. No one knew how to handle any of this, hush /silence is how it was dealt with! To all who have suffered like myself.. be strong, share, educate and survive with a better tomorrow! Totally in support of the brothers!!! ❤
(((HUGS))))
Thank you for share. Your voice of sharing your experience takes the power away from the abusers and gives it back to you, where it belongs. Each time you share, little by little, you heal yourself as well as so many others. Thank you.
YOU PART OF THE ME TO MOVEMENT LOL.. YOU POOR THANG YOU.
❤
So, as a result of your experience, you advocate for cold-blooded, premeditated murder? Perhaps more therapy is warranted?
Thanking you so much for this Peter. I watched the press conference and was hugely moved. They have served their time.
So that cop that blew the judge away for abusing his daughter shouldn't go to prison at all.
@@djholliday5132it’s not about retribution not being punished. It’s about two guys who have served their time taking into account the horrific circumstances. Different cases.
@@djholliday5132I don’t agree. That would be shameful.
The Menudo declaration is critical and I would bet there were others who never came forward.
It takes years for victims of SA to come if ever. The poor man was suicidal. I wonder if Ricky Martin or others in the band were abused. The perps choose the underdog.
This is what worries me the most. It's very unlikely that his sons and Roy Rossello were the only victims of Jose Menendez. Especially in Menudo. It had a sinister reason why Jose was so interested in that particular boyband. I wonder, how many more victims are out there too afraid or ashamed to come forward ?
The justice system is embarrassing that they are in prison so long and not Oj. These brothers should been released years ago and please give them a decent life style .it's so sad
OJ is dead.
This all occurred around the same time. After the OJ debacle, they were bound and determined to get a conviction of the Menendez brothers.
You are absolutely correct. The Brown family got no justice for Nicole. The Goldman family got no justice for Ron.
I can’t imagine how painful that must be for them.
OJ was guilty. Most of us are smart enough to get that.
May he be loaded up like a chicken on the 👹 bbq spit for eternity.
@@Bibibabies260 I'm sure they know...the injustice is that OJ wasn't convicted.
We truly don’t talk about rehabilitation and how it IS possible, enough. ❤️ thanks as always, Peter!
I agree. We are always so quick to say lock them up and let them rot. I’ve been guilty of that myself. This helps me see things in a new light. ❤️
Rehabilitated from what exactly?
Peter, I signed the petition. I believed them at trial. They have served their time.
the press conference was really powerful. they have the new evidence, their family wants them out,... i can't see why they can't be released. free the menendez brothers!!!
Pamela bozanich will do everything to make them stay in jail
Stop calling the father a predator, no he was not, they created this false narrative of both their parents for a defense, it's easy to talk crap when you blew away the only witnesses, they never told their shrink about any molestation if it was as bad as they say at the time Jose would've been outed, you'll believe what you want to, why did it take years before these allegations came out, I think I know why their Lawyer put them up to this, she probably said we need a defense and I have the perfect one, lets say your parents sexually abused you and your mother was a part of it..
@@readynow12345 The SA was already known YEARS BEFORE, so no, do more research
@@elenadehaan6549 That's coming from their mouths so it's not true, you do your research. only after they get locked up do they start claiming sexual abuse, liars liars.
I just heard their father was the one in charge of menudo viva Los ricky🎶 🎵
They are obviously guilty. They also suffered a horrific childhood. Because they have done good things in the years in prison, I believe they've served their time and derserve to be released.
There are many many many people in prison that have "learned their lesson". Should they be freed also?
Possibly, if important evidence was left out of their trial and they have done as much to help others while incarcerated.
I've seen and heard people talk about this, and a big thing is.they are constantly referred to as boys. Even lyk did it a few times. It feels very manipulative. I see people saying that abuse ,sa covers for people everything that's why it's used as an excuse so often. You can't ask questions if they've done anything we don't understand, abuse. People believe they were abused but wanted the money, and that opinion can't be voiced cause abuse stops all questions . I believe they served their time, but I understand all of these points I see being made also.
@@chrissy0037it depends if the sentence fits the crime and the full circumstances of the crime have been considered.
They have DONE their TIME! They didn’t just sit and become Prison “thugs!” I don’t agree with what they did, but their parents were truly EVIL! The father was a S. Predator! Let them come home!
Mom knew about the abuse and did nothing to help her children
Sick evil monsters both of them. A mother is supposed to protect her children. Both of them would have got life in prison.
How do you know she knew?
if you believe their testimony, the mother abused them too. lyle testified that until he was 13, she'd have him touch her inappropriately in bed. both brothers said she used to expose herself to them inappropriately as they were growing up. imo both parents were absolute sickos.
@@hazeykayyAccording to the killers trying to justify their crimes. The rolexes & shopping sprees made them feel better.
@@djholliday5132 tell me you don’t understand trauma responses without telling me you don’t understand trauma responses
Finally they get some justice for these boys. I watched live court hearings back in the day and cried through it all. My heart was broken for them, as I believed them. You can't make this up.
Let's see the same movement for unattractive, poor men sitting in prison! Nobody gives a damn. This is all insane.
Yeah. The details they gave are impossible to make up. And so is the way they told them. They showed all the appropriate emotion and reactions you would expect, with no questionable or deceptive behavior. I’ve watched certain people testify about abuse and you can sense when it’s not real (for example Amber Heard).
Yeah, this case is pretty traumatizing just by hearing about it. Now imagine to actually experience that. I wasn't crying but it made my blood boil, especially certain parts about Jose belittling Erik and talking down on him condescendingly - after he just had r-worded a freakin child ! This is so evil and mean beyond words.
I'm putting it out in to the universe for Eric and Lyall's freedom ❤
I believe them. It's time they have some peace in their life.
They've done their time 35 years - after being tortured by their father and ignored by their mother.
Although I can't understand why they did what they did .. they hadn't developed enough yet to understand the ramifications. They wanted it to end, and that's why they splashed the cash. Unfortunately, that was never going to heal the pain inflicted on them.
Stop being a follower.
They weren’t old enough to know? Are you serious? Cold blood killers both.
@@readynow12345 You are in no position to tell other people what to do. Period.
I am the mother of a son who was repeatedly sexually abused by his own father until age 3 when I found out. Unlike kitty I believed my toddler, although shellshocked, and called CPS.
I have had thoughts of "offing" my ex but I'm humbled by my now adult son, who would rather forgive than harm. My son has been negatively affected by his trauma it will never go away.
I think the brothers have paid enough time and should be free. 🙏❤️🕊️
I've watched every programme devoted to the brothers. I agree that if it happened today, we would be very quick to say that it happened because of the abuse. These poor men.
A couple of rich kids that could have left the home. College degrees in both. They were mad that they wanted an easy life on their abusers money. Dad said "get a life" . They got upset an murdered 2 people. In cold blood and blamed it on gangsters. They are good in prison. They are finally helping people, leave them there. I was abused as a boy also and I thought about this action hundreds of times, feeling I would be justified. But I'd be in prison and not have the media come to my defense.
Poor dead parents.
Morning Peter! I cracked a big smile hearing you yesterday when you said you had a really good day 😊you work very hard and we all appreciate your time doing these episodes! 🙏 thank you for covering this with your commentary, always very educational to me as a nurse
I’m so glad it’s about time for this all to go public once again. Yes I think they have paid their time already. Let’s get them out!
I will be 60yo soon. I remember the case when it was happening in real time. I was sickened by the outcome and the denial that the public and the judicial system were in at the time. I have so much pain around this case that I refused to watch any shows or documentaries about it because it just left me feeling demoralized and powerless. These men were brutalized and fought back out of their own need for safety. They had no other option. As we all experienced, help was not available in or outside of their family. They should be out of prison. I also remember thinking that prison was actually a safer place than home was and that brought me some comfort.
I've signed the petition let's send them home ❤
If they are set free and commit another murder, what then??

Catching replay! Thank you for covering this Peter! ❤ I watched this Trial when it happened and always felt they were abused and feel they should be released now!
I think what those boys did was awful, but what their father did was far worse. It should have been him and Kitty locked up for the last 35 years. At any rate, I do hope they get out now. They have suffered enough. To Kitty's brother, who says they are guilty, no sh*t, Sherlock. She was guilty, too... of allowing her husband to do the despicable things he did for all those years. Sickos.
It's really looking like they are going to be re-sentenced/freed & I wholly support it. 🎉
It's CA and LA, of course they'll be freed!
I hope they are reunited by Christmas.
Me too , and embarrassing they are still in prison and Oj isnt
@@Itsjar1135Well OJ is dead lol 😂

What they endured was vile and horrible!! They should of never got the sentence they did. Their parents were pure evil. Praying they get released and are able to have freedom and peace.
Signed the petition, thanks for shining a light on this
Free the Menendez brother, sentenced to time served as it's no longer in the interest of justice to confine them. They aren't a threat to anyone else, they are extremely unlikely to ever do anything like this again, and it serves no purpose except punishment to continue their incarceration when they are rehabilitated by all accounts. If the justice system is truly about rehabilitation and restitution, and not simply punitive they should be released. I'd live next door to them comfortably.
I worked at a prison and I have also done prison ministry. There are a few select few inmates that I would not mind if they were my neighbors. In fact, I would feel safer if some of those people were my neighbors. However walking down the main street of the prison gave me the heebie-jeebies even as an employee. I had to go in with a hardened look and a hardened heart if you will. That is amazing that high-ranking correctional officers were saying they would not mind if they were their neighbors! That is so huge! Since I have not seen the Menendez brothers operating behind bars, I will withhold my opinion. I so appreciate you covering this!
Thank you for explain the entire press conference!!!👌👏👏👏😌☺️
I don’t consider them rehabilitated “criminals” because they killed their parents out of desperation. They don’t have criminal minds.
Ok, really? If they didn't, they would not have been thieves before this happened,or resorted to blowing their parents away. I can't believe the excuses people make for them.
They could have easily got a job and left
@LRLC1123 I can not believe the lack of general education for the masses about sexual abuse, family systems, and brain development. If you were touched sexually as a child, sexually abused...even 1x....this alters your brain development full stop and scars you for life. Period
@@ultramagahoosierhermit2767Wanted ALL daddy's money right then! So traumatized they went on a shopping spree the next day.
@@LRLC1123I say free them and leave them be. They SUFFERED and should have NEVER been locked up. Maybe put into a psychiatric treatment facility to help them through the difficult life they had. You don’t know unless you’ve been abused like that. I always thought they were justified. Poor kids.
What a nice surprise to wake up to a weekend video! 😎👍 TY Peter! I always love your breakdowns and expertise on the law. Thank you again! So glad I found your channel. I’ve been a loyal listener/watcher for a solid 8-9 months now!

Brilliant coverage, Peter! I hope the Menendez brothers are released for time served. Their story is a real life family tragedy.

This press conference brought tears to my eyes and an ache in my heart. I gladly signed the petition. Thank you for what you do Peter!
Being an abused person I had only 2 ways out, un-alived or run away! I married a stranger to get away!
Fear made me believe I could never escape!
I caught a Live!! Yay!! Love your show Peter! Keep it up! Keep us thinking!
The only victims were the brothers !!! Where were all these families members and friends during their trials???! Where is the American Justice??? Shame on you😢
That was how things worked over 30 years ago, not saying it is right. MANY people still believe males cannot be SA'd or abused in other ways. This is so far from the truth!!! We have gained so much knowledge during this time that it seems unfathomable that they were so horribly abused, ignored, & not believed. SADLY, this is true for MANY.
I applaud Eric & Lyle for taking accountability for their actions & rehabilitating during their sentence. They have taken the bull by its horns & run with it. Time served should be given.
They were never a threat to society. Their actions were the only recourse to get out of a very brutal life, bestowed on them by their father, and not protected by their mother.
I signed the petition for Erik and Lyle. I've watched everything about these brothers and they got a raw deal. Free Erik and Lyle!!
I followed this case closely; I was a baby D.A. in Cal at the time. There was never a question in my mind that both were SA victims. However, there's a reason the 2 trials were so different & the reason is Lyle's statements to the girl on the outside who sa8d she was going to write a book. She taped him. He was ridiculous throughout (he really "snowed the jury 1st time & will again," etc.). And, actually, Lyle was very compelling during 1st trial. Given all the statements that would come out at 2nd trial as impeachment, Lyle simply could not testify at 2nd trial. So many evidentiary issues had different rulings between trials 1 & 2. Re: Mark Geragos ... no comment! Nothing is ever as simple as any one version makes it out. Having said all that, I never thought they were a danger to wider society, but rather only to their parents. 30ish years in custody is probably plenty; if they received re-sentencing, no doubt CTS & released.
Let them go free! 34 years is enough!
Thank you for bringing this out and your comments. Appreciate you!❤
I absolutely agree that there should be a re-sentencing. And, anyone else in their situation for that matter. It's just too much to lock people away for the rest of their lives and believe that 'some' people can't be rehabilitated.
If the system spent more time trying to rehabilitate people, instead of just forgetting about them after conviction, I think we could save a lot of money, have more people working and paying taxes, and into social security, and our prisons wouldn't be so full that they keep letting criminals back on our streets, or put people on drugs back on the streets to commit crimes to keep up with their addictions, instead of requiring them to enter drug programs before being released to society.
I just lost my brother last weekend to an overdose. And, if he would've been put into a drug treatment program before being let out of prison after knowing that was the only reason that he was there or them violating him again and again with no help, my brother most likely would be alive today. The system NEVER tried to help, even when asked. They just want the money for each person in prison!! It's disgusting!
They clearly show they rehabbed and helped other prisoners. That’s amazing!
Rehabilitated from what exactly?
No parole means no parole or release.
The aunt was amazing. So compelling and wise..bless her.
I’ve studied this case a lot. I actually hope they do get out. I believe they were SA by their father for years. They’ve spent decades in prison. It’s a tragic story for sure. I think redemption should be carefully considered but is a good thing.
They've been in prison long enough. They should have been released years ago. I'm praying for their release asap. Those men (they're not boys. They're in their 50's) aren't a danger to anyone.
Thank you Peter for updating us on this case from a legal perspective. 💗 Considering everything that these brothers endured growing up, I think that they have served their time and should be given a chance to live their lives instead of remain behind bars for their rest of their lives imho.
As always, Thank you Peter for your review of this news conference. This is a relevant issue.
In Spokane, Wa we have one of the best Veterans Court Systems in the United States. Our recidivism rate is so low that other states model programs on ours. We should have more programs like this to reset the lives of these people. I believe they were victims but the people who knew or suspected did not speak out. Maybe different mindset then but no excuse to not have called their Father and Mother out.
I can’t believe it’s been that long… I was in my mid 20s living in Southern California when this Trial was live on Court TV and watched the whole thing. It feels like yesterday.
Love your channel and coverage Peter!
This case is so incredibly devastating, compounded by the fact they are still suffering and undoubtedly appear to be inherently good human beings, despite the crime committed. They have suffered more than they deserved. Hoping for a just outcome and some happiness in life for them both, finally.
Carly Gregg would like a word about those lighter sentences for women
I felt this was a very important step in illuminating public awareness in this case. To see the family and know that the corrections officers who were their keepers for so many years testify to their rehabilitation was remarkable. Isn't this the purpose of prison to rehabilitate? Unfortunately for many it is the opposite. As taxpayers I personally don't want the expense of housing and feeding them if they can go out into the world and be productive citizens
Actually they are doin great work in prison helping people. It sounds like a perfect place for them murders. They ARE giving back now.
And I believe they were abused. But they are murderers.
So excited for this. The press conference with the family members was great, I’m excited to hear what all of this truly means for the brothers prospects.

I am concerned about their mental health rehabilitation and strongly believe they would benefit from having mental health care professionals working with them through all of this!
They have in prison. They also started help for others who experienced abuse as children.
They will need help acclimatising to the modern world after living more time in a prison than they ever did outside of a prison.
I believe they've participated in mental health services in prison. They are doing so well that they are mentors to other prisoners now.
It also helps that they've both been married for 20+ years. They seem to have a huge support system too.
They should be released ASAP 1. The abuse in every way. 2. The counsellor broke confidentially & admitted after the trial he also lied

No, you don’t get inheritance or insurance policies or anything when you’ve been put in jail for those crimes to get that money. And that is what people say they did for the money. Whether that is what actually happened or what we actually believe that’s how it came down so they got nothing. They will have nothing moneywise when they get out if they get out.

Good morning Everyone and Peter.
I watched the trails as they happened 30 years ago and while my Mom

I believed the younger brother was abused by his older brother, but I didn’t believe the older brother. I believe he was blaming the Father for his actions to his brother. The older brother wanted to live like a king, go on shopping sprees and his Dad’s money. I’still feel that way.

4:54 it made a difference in the first trial so it would have in the second in my opinion
I totally understand why they did what they did. I think the boys absolutely thought they had no other recourse. MOM AND dad were affluent and had a lot of powerful friends. They have served so much time anyway. They need time served and to be reintegrated into society! Free the boys!!
Had no other recourse when one of them wasn’t even living at home anymore 😂😂
This case is an example of why sexual offenders should be prosecuted to the fullest extent, and also why it is essential for SA victims to get the right therapy. I believe that dialectical behavior skills should be taught in schools kindergarten through senior in high school, and also children should be taught how to recognize this kind of abuse and what to do about it if it happens.
Re-sentencing makes the most sense and I hope they do get out soon.

I believe 100% they have served their time. They were not the “monsters”. Yes they did a horrible crime but there are factors that were not allowed into their 2nd defense and the jury and judge did not give them the fair right to justice. I remember this case being one of my first time hearing anything about court cases when I was a kid and even back then LONG before any documentaries I have felt this way.

You mean convicting murderers that did everything but tell the truth. Till they were in cuffs, then they were abused. I believe they were, but it's not a justification of murder.
@@paulsims9155 … okay? Nowhere did I say or hint at murder being okay. Also people that are abused often don’t come out and say I’m being abused lightly
Let them out! They have done their time.
These brothers were never a threat to the general population in my opinion. Just to their abuser and mum who enabled it.
We can surmise what happened, but they are the only two who know the absolute truth. Since we don't know, I'd err on the side of believing them and support their release. The letter and statement are rather convincing components for me.
At this point the entire extended family are being punished, tormented by the injustice of the brothers sitting in jail still because the sentence did not consider the abuse and was too severe. 35 years for reacting to horrific abuse occurring from the ages of 6 and 8?
