You had me at first on there being no rooms available in Leadore. Couldn't imagine why. Doesn't look like a town that gets too crowded at any time of the year. It's a little desolate in that part of the country but really pretty. Makes you realize just how small you are when you're up on those wide open ridges. Miles and miles of not much but sagebrush and rocks. The little areas of trees are a nice spot to camp overnight. Have fun and stay safe. Wishing you more trail magic.

Yes, Guthooks is a great tool. All our off the track mistakes are human error. I'm trying to train myself to be attentive and present when navigating...apparently I like to zone out and just walk. Not a hood idea on the CDT.

Perseids coming to a sky near us soon. You're right, the dark skies make for fabulous star gazing. We had hoped to get a better comet sighting, but the surrounding mountains obscured the horizon. I would set my alarm and get out to search for it--totally worth it for the Milky Way and her stellar sisters--but no comet.

And/or do you carry paper maps? Do you in addition also carry an Inreach or Spot device for communication when no signal on your phones (sure hope you do!)?

Our shoes last about 500 miles, I stretched mine to 700 miles which was maybe to long!
