It's one thing to dominate in one type of stroke (e.g., freestyle) or be competitive in an individual medley and another to be strong across various strokes and get close to world record at her age in this dominant fashion, which makes McIntosh stand out and truly not comparable to swimmers who only dominate one stroke.
Can take this out in 59.4... Absurd! Summer's locomotive capacity in water is absolutely superior to any other middle distance swimmer ever, either gender, except one (note below). She looked casual throughout this race, but was totally blistering it! So illusory, but that's how the greats do it -- rhythmically, with race-long consistency, so that to us it looks easy. Remember Ian Thorpe's 400? He looked like he was out for a Sunday stroll! Many more healthy years to you, Summer; you're setting the entire sport on its ear and... it's learning that not only must it handle that, but it also can.
Summer McIntosh so far at Canadian Trials...March-April 2023 400 FREE - 3:56.08 (World Record) 200 IM - 2:06.89 (World Junior Record) 200 FLY - 2:04.70 (World Junior Record) 400 IM - 4:25.87 (World Record) They're already naming the Paris Olympics after her .... and the Games haven't even started yet !!
In a recent interview, Summer McIntosh gave some credit to her early focus (for 2 years) on the 1500m freestyle. The 200m and 400m distances feel like sprints to her now.
Either gender? Are you crazy? I bet the men in the first heat from the london games could have taken it out in 59.4 or better! And remember, the first heat usually has three or four guys swimming for non traditional swimming nations, that wouldn't place in the top THOUSAND in the States, Australia, etc. Edit….i just checked, and four of the five swimmers in the first heat (from El Salvador, North Macedonia, Barbados, and Iceland) went out quicker than Summer, with only the Qatari behind in time. The North Macedonian was 57.85 btw, more than a second and a half ahead. Remember, this would most likely be the 10,000th fastest man over ten years ago a second and a half faster than the soon to be fastest women EVER. This comment is in no way meant to diminish or discredit what Summer did here, but it is intended to discredit your comment because FACTS do matter, and lies and exaggerations when comparing men and women in sport will only bring unneeded resentment and pushback from over half of society.
"If she makes that little improvement in the next 18 months that world record is going down." Wrong, it happened last week at the Canadian championships, and she won the 400 freestyle in world record time as well. 😊🇨🇦
@@Arrica101 yes but probably not over 5'9" she already dwarfs her older sister who is an elite figure skater (3rd @ world juniors, & NHK Trophy as a senior)
I'm 75 years old and still trying to figure out what height means in swimming. I remember watching a backstroke race in 1965 between a guy 5'6" and another one 6'8". Butterfly was my best stroke and I'm 6 feet even. A lot of top male butterflyers are about that height.
American in this context refers to the American continent (North America and South America) just like animals such as the 'American lynx' and Mexican soccer team 'Club America' are in reference to the American continent, not the United States.
Be PRUDENT of woke media, to actually show an icon image of each athlete, next to their name. Or at least better abbreviations as the current specs, need to be constantly Googled, as to the meaning. Better yet, how 'bout a reference to each competitor's spec-page or reference sheet.
Summer is insanely good!
Certainly the form swimmer of the moment - her butterfly is so magnificent.
Amazing, she's the best swimmer currently. Wow

She has the world record now….😊

Rowdy called it. Killed the WR shortly thereafter
Incredible girl
God Bless you Summer. May the seconds fall!
She is only 5'6 while most female swimmers are almost 6' tall now a day. Amazing
listed at 5'6. I wouldnt be surprised if she is still getting taller
@@Arrica101 yes but probably not over 5'9" she already dwarfs her older sister who is an elite figure skater (3rd @ world juniors, & NHK Trophy as a senior)
Same with Maggie MacNeil who's considerably shorter than her fellow competitors.
nah. Few of them are over 6'

That's just absurd the amount of lead she has over the field. Go MacIntosh!!
Maybe she can get a sponsorship contract with Apple Computer.
Mcintosh vs Walsh for the 200IM
MAC WON 207.16 VS WALSH
Walsh needs to fix her turns.
SUMMER 106.3 FM is coming in 2024 or 2025

Bonkers

Those earrings drag.
ARE YOU SERIOUS? ALWAY TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING WRONG
@@pierrebeausoleil5885 , the comment meant that the earrings cause drag in the water,
how is this a US and American Record? shes from canada
It is faster than us record marks but the record she got is the Wolrd Junior record.
And also pssibly the US open record, which is fastest time on US soil
'Americas Record'
US Open record. Fastest time swam on US soil. America's record is fastest time for the Pan American countries

I can’t wait to see Simone biles and Katie Ledecky at the gymnastics events and swimming events at the 2024 summer Olympic Games in Paris France 🇫🇷
Look closely: 'Americas Record'
I cant wait to see Canada clean the clocks of everyone in swimming...
Wow
