Big Burt Reynolds fan and a big Turd Ferguson fan too!
*_"My movies are the kind of movies they show in airplanes and prisons - where you can't leave!"_*
- Burt Reynolds
Lolz
_Archer_ the animated adult show has tonnes of Burt references and he in an episode. The man was a master of self-deprecation.
He even got his own rare *trading card* out of the experience. (Signed by the legend himself, no less!)
Sharky's Machine is one of my favorite movies off all time.. as well as Thief
The Longest Yard was my favorite of Burt’s. Great mixture of comedy & drama.
The End
@@moncorp1The best 😂
Chris Rock said when he did the remake with Burt he told the best Hollywood stories
Reynolds seemed to have a thing with stuntman/director Hal Needham similar to that of John Wayne and John Ford. He liked making movies with his buddies, so there's this cycle that came about right when CB/trucker culture, "Dukes of Hazzard," and the whole "Urban Cowboy" fad sorta swirled together and manifested in the Reynolds-Needham film cycle, roughly from '77-83 (starting with "Smokey and the Bandit" and ending with "Stroker Ace"). Clint Eastwood tried his hand at all this with the ""Every Which Way" movies, "Bronco Billy," and "Honkytonk Man." But yeah, "Sharky's Machine" is an overlooked gem.
It definitely sticks out around all of the MANY rom-coms that he was doing during that stretch.
Burt's autobiography is amazing, fucking HILARIOUS!
A lesser known, but still entertaining Reynolds film from that era, is _Stick_ (1985). Burt doing his Burt thing - with lots of action, women, drugs, chases, stunts, weird characters - and set in Florida. Based on an Elmore Leonard novel - and directed by Burt himself. Check it out.
"Say goodnight!"
"Why don't you push really hard? You might hit the water."
Just got my director's ( Burt ) cut of Stick. Many different things the studio changed for the theatrical release. For example ( and spoiler ) he gets together with Chucky to produce a movie - really just a ploy to soak Chuckie for $$'s. And, turns out Stickley was too much for Candice.
I finally saw Sharky's Machine and several other Burt movies over the passed few years. One underrated flick he did with Clint Eastwood is called "City Heat". "Malone" is another good sleeper hit.
I always enjoyed the white lightning and Gator movies, loved city heat too.
Reynolds' horrible "City Heat" injury began a professional decline that Loni Anderson's even *more* horrible greed finished.
Check out Shamus with Burt & a double feature of Gator & White Lightening
@@samanthab1923 Love Shamus, one of my favorites. Prob in my top 5. Also in there, a made for tv movie Run Simon Run. If you, and anyone else seeing this, hasn't seen The Hollywood Sign, w/Burt, Tom Berenger & Rod Steiger, give it a watch. Burt is great in it.
@@WilliamsDad1989 Thanks, will give it a look 👋
I got my mom to take me to see Sharky's Machine when it came out in the theaters. The movie has so much epicness. Some brutal violence, beautiful women, cool ass jazz music and very funny ( at times) dialogue. I had the movie poster on my wall for years. One of my favorite movies. And the same can be said about Thief! Another favorite. First time I ever saw Jim Belushi. He was really young. He didn't say much but he had a very cool and violent death scene. I would recommend them both to anyone!
Longest Yard is a perfect representation of both
The best.
The best Burt Reynolds movie after Deliverance is Hustle, directed by Robert Aldrich. Really quite gritty.
The see-through skirt in Sharkey's Machine was great but Sally Fields' white micro-white hot pants in Hooper are epic.
I was born in '78 and grew up watching a lot of Burt Reynolds. His comedies are better known but movies like Sharky's Machine, Stick, Heat (1986), and Rent-a-Cop are all awesome.
Rent a Cop was pretty good actually. Got panned pretty bad. I like it.
I really liked his show Evening Shade
I already loved Bill Burr and now he says he loved SHARKEY'S MACHINE??? I fucking love that movie!!!!!
Great movie with Great car and Great actor, Steve Mcqueen in Bulleit.
Definitely. I'd also highly recommend "The Stone Killer" (1973) with Charles Bronson, Reynold's "Dan August" pal Norman Fell; and his future castmate John Ritter is in it too. Great car chase scene in it, very underrated movie.
I actually dig a few of his 80’s movies like Stick and Malone. His hairpiece was on point in Malone..lol Stick was from an Elmore Leonard novel.
Heat and Sharky's Machine are good too.
I love "Starting Over" because it also shows Burt Reynolds as an actor.
the part of Burt Reynolds no one really seems to get or appreciate these days is the fact that he NEVER took himself seriously - he just loved making movies - that is why his movies (even the "bad" ones like Gator and Cannonball Run 2) were so enjoyable - and yeah he was a great actor with the right material (Boogie Nights, Deliverance)
Sharkys Machine - awesome
Hooper - awesome
Underrated, overlooked films
his best movies were in the 70's : Longest Yard, White Lightning....
Amazing how in 1967, Chaz had a set of hubcaps that didn't come on a Cadillac until 1976.
Burt Reynolds was great in the original “Longest Yard”
Burt Reynolds was amazing!!
Sharkey is to Burt what Nighthawks is to Stallone.
Nah
White Lightning and Gator are two of my favorites!!!
Tarantino wanted Burt for the Bruce Dern role in, _Once Upon a Time in Hollywood_ but sadly, Burt passed away. Burt was more of a stunt man's actor, he knew ALL the stuntmen, they were a fucking CREW back in the day.
Izzy I’m loving your work man. Thank you brother.
Legend has it when Clint Eastwood was about to do the movie Every Which Way but Loose he sent the script to Burt Reynolds because he was hesitant about doing comedy Legend has it Burt Reynolds told him if you start doing movies like this you're treading on my territory if the movies a hit then I'll have to do a movie where Dirty Harry goes to Atlanta when Clint Eastwood heard about Sharky's Machine he sent Burt Reynolds a telegram with the words you weren't kidding were you?
I want to see Bill Burr have a conversation about 1970's Movies with Quentin Tarantino. They both love em and are passionate when talking about them. They both love badass action flicks but Quentin loved the Exploitation Movies and Spaghetti Westerns while Bill loved the Mainstream shit from the 70's.
That's because Bill grew up in the suburbs...you could only see the mainstream stuff. Meanwhile, QT grew up in L.A.
It'd be a lot of Quentin interrupting Bill to correct him and I think that would get on Bill's nerves lol never meet your heroes
Burr's got that thing that another comedian had that might surprise you, if you're not a huge fan of old movies - Don Rickles. Rickles did not goof around, he took acting seriously, and so does Burr.
Hopper is great. Fun movie, doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Gator, White Lighting, Smokey and the Bandit..my favorites
Don't forget Cop and a Half, amazing movie.
Izzy so Dope is the best non-incarcerated Bill Burr RUclipsr.
Isnt he the only one left that puts these clips together? Most people just take podcast clips and dont even take the time to find the corresponding clips. Izzy a legend.
@@Dime_time333 lol here's a reason I put "non-incarcerated".
@@harizotoh7 we get it, your referencing allen palin. He was the only other guy who did this.
Don’t forget the original longest Yard! In my opinion, it ranks up there with deliverance. As a classic.
I like the theme song Street Life for Sharky's Machine, sung by Randy Crawford. It was used in Breaking Bad, which is where I discovered it!
Love the Community clip! "You're fat Burt Reynolds" 😆
Burr saying when was the last good car movie just made me think of all those Fast and Furious fans heads exploding and that makes me happy.
100 Rifles. With Raquel Welsh and Jim Brown. Underrated.
Gator....Good film. Underrated
The stunts were incredible….
It's funny, I just recently watched Smokey and the Bandit for the first time in years, it's really held up well. Really funny film. Of course, Gleason had lots to with that, but Burt was great as well.
my favorite era for burt movies is generally over all before smokey/bandit : sam whiskey, 100 rifles, fuzz, deliverance, original longest yard, run simon run, killers are for killing aka hardframe, shamus, the man who loved cat dancing, gator, white lightning, hustle, semi-tough and my very favorite : ww and the dixie dancekings. i also like rough cut 1980 + sharkey's machine.
Including the Idiocracy clip was just too perfect
Kudos
Burt played on wagon train and was unbelievably good.
Don’t forget “the Longest Yard”, that was a great movie!
Jesus Christ...I just realized I haven't seen Sharky's Machine since I was a kid. I definitely need to watch it again.
The End is my favorite.
One of Burt Reynold's best movies that the critics hated was Hustle, co-starring Catherine Deneuve. It was dirty, violent, and very, very good. Not a happy film by any means, but Reynolds gave a terrific performance.
Yup
Burt Reynolds was a MOVIE STAR. in fact, check out THAT movie with him!
Burt's also good in Hustle (1975) a movie no one remembers
See also "Gator" with Jerry Reed playing one of the most evil muhfugs on the planet. He was sooo.... mean.
Hard to believe he didn't mention _"The Longest Yard."_ He was serious in that, with a comic edge.9
I always loved Cop and a Half
"Rough Cut" was a fun heist movie.
I agree - but I gotta go, something just came up.
Burt was in movie called Shark in the early/mid 70's that I watched in the mid 80's as a child, and too the day that man is the opitimey of cool. I always thought he looked like my dad and I love his early work. He actually turned down Cuckoos Nest and Terms of Endearment which were two of Nicholsons 3 Oscar wins. I agree with Bill. He was never utilized correctly
Sharky's Machine is so underrated.
Can’t forget about the movie Malone, great movie. Plenty of action , good story and had an awesome car! A sweet Mustang!
Sharkeys machine was the shit yo……
Bill Burt Reynolds
I’ve heard it said that Burt Reynolds became a movie star in SPITE OF HIS MOVIES.
I just watched that episode of Community
I sure do like that Burt Reynolds.
How about the movie White Lightning with that hopped up Ford LTD remember
White Lightning is one of his best.
‘Now you get… to play.. the game. 😉’ - Deliverance
Saw sharkeys in the theatre Burt was a badass Hooper … badass Cannonball
Apparently Burt Reynolds really didn't want to do Boogie Nights. The rumor is that he said no 7 times before he said yes to the movie and he fired his agent after seeing the rough cut. The only reason he said yes was because he was in very bad financial shape at the time. It's probably one of the few times that an actor reluctantly agreed to be in a movie yet the movie turned out great and the actor gave a great performance.
He hated everything about the movie -- until he read the reviews.
For some reason all his pre- mustache movies are more serious, lol.
The End is a seriously underrated flick. Don't say flick.
Flick I can handle. But in the name of All That's Holy, PLEASE ditch using *underrated.* 🤢
(RUclips's most clichéd humble-brag.)
Car Movies: The Transporter franchise, Baby Driver, Fast & Furious franchise.
Death Proof
Top box office draw from 1977 thru 1982, never been done before or since, 5 years straight at the top.
My favorite Burt Reynolds movie is Malone. A modern version of Shane.
Bill Burr: when is the last time you saw a good car movie?
Vin Diesel: Are my FF movies a joke to you?
When was the last time there was a good car movie? Depending on what you consider "good", the "Fast and the Furious" franchise might be something to check out.
Should have mentioned WW and the Dixie dance king's
You gotta watch 'Rent A Cop' with Burt Reynolds and Liza Minnelli! 😂👍 Burt plays almost a caricature of himself, like Norm MacDonald is playing him 🤣 The movie is soo bad it's good, me and my buddies used to always put it on when we were trashed for good laughs!
Baby Driver was pretty good “car movie” (assuming he means chase flicks) bc there’s 37 Fast and furious movies 😂
Sharky's Machine, Heat and Malone are my favorite Burt movies. I agree his comedies were good but I prefer him in the gritty action sometimes noir type movies. He was so good in them.
There should be more love for the lone season of "Dan August".
Burt had an acting school in Florida.
Pedro Pascal, that’s who Burt Reynolds reminds of a little
I had Cannonball Run themed birthday party in 4th grade if that says anything
For 4th grade, that's really rockin' out. If you're 40, then seek therapy...
Check out Dax Sheppards Hit and Run
Check out Shamus
The longest yard 👈🏈
Bill BurrT Reynolds, Ryan
If I'm lyin' I'm dyin'
ehh... wut?
Great? No. *Greater* than most of the schlock he was in? *Absolutely.* Burt was always THE best thing about a Burt Reynolds film.
He directed Sharky's Machine. I wish he'd directed more. He did a great job.
Stick was hilarious
And also great - this was the era of legendary stuntman Dar Robinson, who played the bad guy's right hand man, and who invented the decelerator he used in the final high fall.
@@ThatOldGrey Dar also went off the building in Sharkey's Machine. Live just outside Atlanta at the time they were filming. Got to see it. 2 or 300 yards away thru binoculars, but hey........
How about "White Lightning" and "Gator"?
Classic Burt Reynolds. In his Element. Much Better than Smokey and Bandit.
Stroker Ace never gets mentioned with those great funny 80's movies. And that's a shame.
That movie is terrible…..stop it.
Unfortunately out of loyalty to the director h a l native who directed him in several movies including Smokey and the Bandit he chose to do that movie instead of the role that was offered to him that one Jack Nicholson the Academy Award for Terms of Endearment
Ah the 70s. If you've never seen The French Connection stop what you're doing and go watch now.
Two was almost as good. " you gonna drink that green shit?"
Don’t forget White Lightening
STICK !
Ol’Freckles loves Burt Reynolds.
So did Norm MacDonald. Norm's impression of Burt Reynolds was crazy good. When he threw on the mustache and hat he looked just like him when he was younger.
@@Wallyworld30
He really did. He had the mannerisms down, too
Baby Driver
Agree I like tough Burt better, but love Stroker Ace too.
