You really need to email this to Sea Life Park. I didn't even know they had a luau but if the food was sub par, they need to improve, quickly. Especially if they feature the pig and it's dry. Let them fix it. Let em know. Better luaus: Hilton Hawaiian, Ko Olina and Polynesian Cultural Center. Too bad you had to settle with Sea Life Park. All these people on the thread complaining that it's too "touristy." Who else are we putting on these events for? LOL! When locals want Hawaiian food we don't go to luaus. We go to our fav Hawaiian food restaurants.
wouldn't have gone to any of the too...Helena's or Waihole Poi Factory in Waiahole is da best for real Hawaiian food. Unfortunately we don't have Luau's until birthday parties, family reunions or Graduation time in May/June...that is when you should go , they invite you....its nothing like this touristy stuff. These guys not even Hawaiians , but other Polynesians. Aloha
I live in Oahu too and didn't know Sealife Park did Luau's. I don't think about that place and Luau. If I wanted Hawaiian food I'd go Helena's, Alicia's, or Young's Fish Market. Love those places. Alicia's needs better parking tho...
Mikey, I highly respect and admire your very loving and lovable essence, especially when you show much excitement and compassion, like being happy to see what appeared to be a stray cat, and then sharing some food. If I recall correctly, this is the third time I've seen you so kind to animals in your videos, which reveals your BIG heart. ^_^ I was really looking forward to you having an awesome, first-time experience of enjoying some very succulent kalua pig, but at least you had an opportunity to experience what you DON'T resonate with, which brings you that much closer to all that you truly resonate with. I have no doubt that this form of contrast/duality/polarity will help you to deeply appreciate its opposite---AMAZING kalua pig in Divine perfect timing and order. While stationed in Hawaii, my husband and I experienced eating kalua pig at a few different places---to include Paradise Cove back in 2005---but none of them were really memorable, though the event itself was nice. Ironically, THE BEST melt in your mouth kalua pig we've ever had so far was served at the Galley (military dining facility) at my workplace within Kunia (KRSOC at the time); and whenever they had it, I would get two extra togo boxes after having lunch there. Whenever you travel, you make us feel as though we're there with you. Thank you so much for sharing authentic YOU and your multi-faceted gifts/skills/talents---especially your natural, impressive ability to perfectly integrate spot on, detailed descriptions of food with a great sense of humor. We also appreciate you generously sharing so many gems on our planet Earth, especially the beautiful places, fascinating cultures, friendly people, and delicious foods, drinks, and desserts! Continue enjoying Life as your Multidimensional self (earthly and otherworldly selves)/Self (Source: Soul/Spirit within). ;-)
I like how you get easily distracted by the stray animals you encounter . It shows your kindness and how you are able to make friends of strangers easily. keep up the good work
Sorry to hear that you went to one of those luaus. If you ever go back, I would recommend checking out the Polynesian Cultural Center. It can be a little expensive, but the experience is amazing. They don't do the whole pig in the ground show. Instead it's done as a large buffet. I found the food to be really good when I went there. The highlight though is easily their evening show.
If you're into hiking, I would recommend doing the haleakala trail on Maui. It's by no means an easy hike, but when you're in the crater, you don't get any light pollution. It's the most beautiful view of the night sky I've ever seen.
The best luau I went to was at the Polynesian Cultural Center. I think the quality of food suffers because they are cooking for so many people. So, it becomes more like institutional food.
Devine Massage true..they imu one pig for show and to feed the hundreds, they do the other pigs in the oven and add some smoke liquid to emulate the taste of the pig being cooked in the imu.
The best luaus are within the local residents private party's like a wedding, anniversary, graduation, family reunions etc.... Not those commercialized tourist attractions. ..... You need to make friends with locals here in Hawaii 😜
Brudda turn it down. Turn it down brudda. Ok everybody listen up as we go to Germaine’s luau. It’s gonna be a beautiful day today here on the island. My names Reno, but you can call me cousin Reno but I’m not you’re real cousin so don’t ask for money right😂
The luau Fluffy was talking about is on the DIRECT opposite side of the island...Germaine's Luau @Paradise Cove. It's approximately 30 mins W of HNL airport, 45 mins from HNL/WKK
I finished my trip of Hawaii yesterday and a lot of things you went to (like the Sea Life Park) I went to too. Hawaii is such a fun place.i loved the snorkeling and especially the food. And the scenery is so beautiful, you cannot see any scenery this beautiful anywhere. Mikey Chen, if you come back to Hawaii, go to the Polynesian Cultural Center, their luau is so much better and you need to watch their show, their show is known as “the best show in Hawaii” - Hawaii Magazine. And also the cat you saw I also saw lol he is still alive.
Hey Mikey. Love the honesty in this review. It did seem "tourist-y" and the way they make Kalua pig is ALWAYS dry!!! Go to Samoa and see how it's done tastefully! Lots of food to try there. Love you Mikey! Big fan of yours!
Hey Mikey, When we went to Kauai, we were taught at the luaus to eat the kalua pig with the poi (dip the pig in to the poi) it was DELICIOUS...made both things better...saved the pig from being too dry. Although ours wasn't actually that dry to begin with. Maybe next time go to Kauai, to Smith's Luau :)
One of those pull outs has a moment to Amelia Earhart because that was the last place she was seen before she flew off last...and was lost. Hilton Hawaiian Village's Luau was awesome and he food was great. I recommend spending the money for that one if you make it back again.
My mother and I went to Hawaii in January 2017. We went to this Luau and enjoyed it immensely. I did watch this video of yours before we left Australia, bound for our Hawaiian adventures. Thanks for the great information.
Chief's Luau! He used to perform at the PCC for years. Pretty sure they still use his routine. I'm sure that there's going to be plenty of mentions related to "authenticity" but unless you're doing the family thing you're unlikely to get a Hawaiian luau rather than a pan-Pacific interpretation? Fire dances & even Chief himself are Samoan? The food's also going to vary in quality as you're getting whatever suits the most varied palettes, including kids. Pretty much the greatest hits with inoffensive Chinese buffet selections cooked in mass portion amounts. Ultimately, you're paying more for the experience and getting food/liquor as an added benefit.
i went to a luau when i was 14, im now 24. it was on the island kauai and we watched them cook the pig. also, there werent any vendors there. the pig was amazingly good from what i remember and the show was as well. it was way less touristy and more realistic.
Wintersin hawaii are most windy, if u ever go to hawaii again, go in july, its amazing and warm& if u didn't go to the international market street at the evening, you haveeee to go because it's awesome and you never know what you gonna see there
Found your vlog while looking for videos of Japan for an upcoming trip! Totally enjoyed watching your videos of Hawaii. I'm from Hawaii and I've only been to one luau my entire life. Yes very touristy. Appreciate your honesty! Glad you went to other food places that made up for it!
You're right...it was "touristy". The best food is at private luaus with squid luau, p'ipikaula, poi, chicken long rice, opihi sashimi, poke and other food that is caught/hunted and homemade-- speaking of homemade: auntie's lau lau...
love the luau party and waikiki looks nice in the hotel and the beach your staying at in hawaii but long drive to the luau party cute cat have a nice night in hawaii
Everyones complaining about the authenticity of the luau. Am I seriously the only one that noticed the blonde in the blue dress? She's so damn gorgeous it hurts.
About 35 years ago I went to a luau on Oahu. The pig was also dry. Really dry. Like you, I don't know if this is normal, but I love pork on the BBQ and finished off in the oven with a bit of water to steam it for a while. Love the poi, though.
Hey Mikey! I know this video is a little old but I'm still gonna leave this comment here. I have lived in Hawaii (Specifically Oahu) and I have never in my life seen such a luau that was as much of a tourist trap as the one shown in your video. If you ever do try a luau again, I recommend Germaine's or the Polynesian Cultural Center.
ya, luaus are more towards the tourist. if you going for more food experience, hit up some local restaurants specialized in Hawaiian cuisine or have some local friends who can cook the good food for you. as for history, you could try some of the tours. hope you enjoy your stay here in the islands :D
It's Just Milk I Swear Well, being as the chance of the typical tourist experiencing a real Hawaiian luau are very, very small it's rare for anyone to attend a real one nowadays? Heck, short of family gatherings like a baby luau, etc. the opportunity really isn't there
It's Just Milk I Swear Not that easy? I wouldn't want random tourists at a closed family event? Much less ones that are apt to ask a bunch of questions like "Where's the fire dancers?", distract from who the luau's for and act like it's a photo-op arranged for THEIR benefit? Hell, there are actual relatives and friends that won't get invited much less random strangers that might complain that they didn't like squid luau because it's "too weird" or literally spit out the poi because it "tastes sour, so it's spoiled"?!?
DDELFIERRO food reviewers get invited to private Luaus all the fucking time. don't post any more comments, i'm tired of you. you just want to argue with me for no reason and you're pissing me off.
I like your Vlog Mikey, very authentic. Wish I had known you were on island, could have shown you some cool stuff. Too bad the weather was so rough that week.
You have to go where the locals go, not the tourists! We stationed in Hawaii for years, I wish we were still there, I would take you to some great places! Just follow the locals!
Welcome to the 808 mike. Make sure you check out Leonards for the malasada's! Also if you get a chance head to NorthShore and get some shaved ice at Matsumoto's.
Sea life park is a dumpy little version of sea world but the location is amazing and the luau is quite good, nice to be outside instead of in a tent or building.
Next luau you should go to either the polynesian culture center or germaine's luau. We take our mainland relatives to either. PCC can be a all day affair though but takes you to all different polynesian cultures so you know where the dances and activities came from.
"don't worry..this is not the only pig we're going to eat" A clue that the rest was probably a previous Luau's leftovers or pig overcooked much earlier in the day, so they'd have enough.
Mikey, You need to hit up Papa Ole's. It's a restaurant north shore where they are always packed. Their kalbi ribs and garlic shrimp are AMAZING! You gotta get there before they run out of Kalbi ribs.
I just saw your video haha your amazing dude ! I really love everything about Hawaii … I love Oahu and I can’t wait to go back !!! Greetings from Denver !! Aloha !!
This is my first time seeing a famous vlogger visit my homeland :D I'm about 7-10 miles away from that luau! I would recommend going to Polynesian cultural center or Paradise Cove if you are going back to Oahu. Best mall here is Ala Moana.
You should check out South Korean Jeju Island. They have a unique way of cooking pork. They bury the pig undergound. And it is delicious!! You'll love it!!
I've had the same experience with Luaus in regards to food. I only go if others in my group want to experience it. I console myself into thinking of it as an experience. If you are going for the food quality, spend your money elsewhere. There are plenty of really good Hawaiian restaurants that are a lot cheaper and the quality is better.
Mike there so many luaus held in the island. The one I use to work for was beach show is the same all over. Food is great and had poi and lot mai tai and blue hawaii cocktails.
In Waikiki there a night club that dinner show and Hawaiian magic show and other things. Food is better for it in a hotel where chef cooked it up so good. Hawaiian and infusion type food, Like indoor luau..
Lmao the kitty is just like "Aye, I'm just here for the food, buddy!" Their culture is amazing, it seems a little similar to mine. You should attend a PowWow. I'm surprised you haven't since you frequent Arizona.
Totally enjoyable Thank you so much for sharing.Funny thing.I was looking forward to you tasting the pig almost as much as you were but when you went for the helping of it I thought it looked too dry but thought that I must be wrong!
You should try dukes in waikiki beautiful view of the beach and great food. As well if you travel back to north shore you should also try Giovanni's shrimp truck located in kahuku.
We went to our first luau in Maui. It was at the Westin Hotel. Like yours the whole experience was nice and to see all the dances and cultural wear was neat. The food however was very disappointing. The Kalua Pork was really dry and the poké was no good. I really didn't eat much that evening. Like you I was looking forward to a yummy pig. I turned to my husband telling him that his Kalua Pork is much better. His is tasty and moist. He got his recipe from a Hawaiian friend. It is so delicious. All done in a crock pot.
Jackie Chan Jr will you be body surfing at the north shore? Try boogie boarding, it's fun and easy. For beginners I recommend makapu'u beach or the wall at Waikiki beach.
You really need to email this to Sea Life Park. I didn't even know they had a luau but if the food was sub par, they need to improve, quickly. Especially if they feature the pig and it's dry. Sealife Park?! You should've gone to Polynesian Cultural Center!! Way better experience and environment.
I thought so, too - but remember that he books his trips last minute, so it might not have been an option :-)
Polynesian Cultural Center pops up first if Google searching Hawaiian Luau though. How he got to Sealife Park is weird lol.
wouldn't have gone to any of the too...Helena's or Waihole Poi Factory in Waiahole is da best for real Hawaiian food. bro wrote a full on essay
awwww cute mikes face lit up when he saw the cat lol
yes, but he really needs to learn how to pet a cat lol
I like how you get easily distracted by the stray animals you encounter . It shows your kindness and how you are able to make friends of strangers easily. keep up the good work
I just love Mikey so much it makes me so happy to see him exploring and enjoying the world!
that was a really pretty cat, I hope it had owners somewhere. can you imagine? "I'm back fam, just went to a luau." badass cat
Love the headband. It works for you
Sorry to hear that you went to one of those luaus. If you ever go back, I would recommend checking out the Polynesian Cultural Center. It can be a little expensive, but the experience is amazing. Aw Kitty!!! Yeah, it totally distracted me.
The best luau I went to was at the Polynesian Cultural Center. I think the quality of food suffers because they are cooking for so many people. So, it becomes more like institutional food.

+International Observer ... True...lol
wait, he didn't go to the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, that is mormon owned...He went to the Sea Life Park Aquarium's Luau in East Honolulu..
hawaiiguy1 ... A'ole *~.~
I've been to the one in Kapolei, which is pretty decent. Never got a chance to visit the PCC.
The best luaus are within the local residents private party's like a wedding, anniversary, graduation, family reunions etc.... Not those commercialized tourist attractions. ..... You need to make friends with locals here in Hawaii 😜
So these are the luau's Gabriel Iglesias warned me about
Clever Laziness 効率 If you see a bunch of tourists...you're in the wrong place.
Clever Laziness I thought the same thing right away!
Brudda turn it down. Turn it down brudda. Ok everybody listen up as we go to Germaine’s luau. It’s gonna be a beautiful day today here on the island. My names Reno, but you can call me cousin Reno but I’m not you’re real cousin so don’t ask for money right😂
My thought exactly 😂😂😂
The luau Fluffy was talking about is on the DIRECT opposite side of the island...Germaine's Luau @Paradise Cove. It's approximately 30 mins W of HNL airport, 45 mins from HNL/WKK
luau at sealife? thats like celebrating christmas at a walmart. you know its going to be sad

Jermaine's luau on Ohau is absolutely amazing the food and dancing is on a whole nother level. I was saddened when you said the pig was dry =(
Mikey, you did an awesome job sharing your experience with us! Quiet the entertainer! Thanks for sharing!
My mother and I went to Hawaii in January 2017. We went to this Luau and enjoyed it immensely. I did watch this video of yours before we left Australia, bound for our Hawaiian adventures. Thanks for the great information.
9:25 Mikey's got some moves! Oh yeaaah!
Walks up to the dude making the coconut leaves head band..."Are they edible"? lol!! Food on the brain as usual. lol 😂😂

Petting Animals 101: Never go behind their heads, always come in from the front so they can see you and you can sense if they want to be pet.
the Polynesian cultural center, it's a great one. they also do buffets, sit down dinner, and a theatrical show called Ha.
i went to a luau when i was 14, im now 24. it was on the island kauai and we watched them cook the pig. also, there werent any vendors there. the pig was amazingly good from what i remember and the show was as well. it was way less touristy and more realistic.
even though this is touristy, this looks so much fun and the vibe looks awesome!! i want to visit hawaii so bad!!
Wintersin hawaii are most windy, if u ever go to hawaii again, go in july, its amazing and warm& if u didn't go to the international market street at the evening, you haveeee to go because it's awesome and you never know what you gonna see there
"I paid extra so I could eat first" LOL yeah Mikey! Love it! 😄👍
Samoan Luaus are the best, there are a lot of different kinds, turkey, pilikaki (mackerel), palusami (coconut+onions and taro leaves) etc..
The Luau looks like something you'd see at Disney World.
much more fitting choice of music than your usual stuff
Found your vlog while looking for videos of Japan for an upcoming trip! Totally enjoyed watching your videos of Hawaii. I'm from Hawaii and I've only been to one luau my entire life. Yes very touristy. Appreciate your honesty! Glad you went to other food places that made up for it!

Yes, Hawaii is just a great place to be.. Yes, I do like the many beaches there...

Mikey at a Luau: *HI KITTY* 😂
that Luau was so touristy. i think you would need to get invited to a private Luau to get the real experience.
It's Just Milk I Swear My thoughts exactly.
It's Just Milk I Swear Well, being as the chance of the typical tourist experiencing a real Hawaiian luau are very, very small it's rare for anyone to attend a real one nowadays? Heck, short of family gatherings like a baby luau, etc. the opportunity really isn't there
DDELFIERRO that's what i mean. get invited to attend a family Luau by a real hawaiian. it can't be that hard to make friends with a hawaiian person.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years to you..
Thanks Mikey. I have visited LUAU from your awesome video.
I'm glad you had a mesmerizing experience
You have to go where the locals go, not the tourists! We stationed in Hawaii for years, I wish we were still there, I would take you to some great places! Just follow the locals!
Welcome to the 808 mike. Make sure you check out Leonards for the malasada's! Also if you get a chance head to NorthShore and get some shaved ice at Matsumoto's.
Sea life park is a dumpy little version of sea world but the location is amazing and the luau is quite good, nice to be outside instead of in a tent or building.
Wow I am the first one! Aloha Mike !! I love watching all your channels.
Next luau you should go to either the polynesian culture center or germaine's luau. We take our mainland relatives to either. PCC can be a all day affair though but takes you to all different polynesian cultures so you know where the dances and activities came from.
That Hawaiian women that waved to the camera cheerfully. Lol. Hawaiian people are so nice.
Paradise cove is really pretty. But they did a lot here.A smaller version of PCC pretty cool.
"don't worry..this is not the only pig we're going to eat" A clue that the rest was probably a previous Luau's leftovers or pig overcooked much earlier in the day, so they'd have enough.
I agree with some replies here.....Polynesian Cultural center has an amazing luau experience. Paradise Cove in Ko'olina is also good.
Love the review..great way to describe and enthusiam too
Mikey, You need to hit up Papa Ole's. It's a restaurant north shore where they are always packed. Their kalbi ribs and garlic shrimp are AMAZING! You gotta get there before they run out of Kalbi ribs.
Why didn't you take off your shirt at the beach? We're all watching this video for that!
I really enjoyed the cat.
I just saw your video haha your amazing dude ! I really love everything about Hawaii … I love Oahu and I can’t wait to go back !!! Greetings from Denver !! Aloha !!
I live here on Oahu and didn't know they had a luau there too. HELENA'S IS THE REAL DEAL without the entertainment.
cool Hawaii looks amazing definitely need to go trekking around that place. good luck mikey hope you have an amazing time.
I've been to that same luau a few years (like 14) back it definitely wasn't that advanced. Hope you enjoyed it.
Hi mikey... im literally loving your videos now ❤.... and so I'm starting to watch from the oldest videos 📹...😊
love the editing and music in this one Mike! reminds me of a natgeo styled documentary
This is my first time seeing a famous vlogger visit my homeland :D I'm about 7-10 miles away from that luau! I would recommend going to Polynesian cultural center or Paradise Cove if you are going back to Oahu. Best mall here is Ala Moana.
Thanks for watching :-)
You really think that that's me in my profile picture? lmao
It was really awesome that u share ur experience with us! I could almost taste the luau pig🐽🐽
There for tourists, food is passable, entertainment is fun, but I'd only go once.
THE video I was looking forward to the most! My only only goal of going to Hawaii
You should check out South Korean Jeju Island. They have a unique way of cooking pork. They bury the pig undergound. And it is delicious!! You'll love it!!
HAHAH when mike was moving his hips 😂
I've had the same experience with Luaus in regards to food. I only go if others in my group want to experience it. I console myself into thinking of it as an experience. If you are going for the food quality, spend your money elsewhere. There are plenty of really good Hawaiian restaurants that are a lot cheaper and the quality is better.
I kind of had a feeling when they were being ushered in that this was a "by the clock" sort of event. but the show at the end looked good!
Polynesian Cultural Center #1!!! MUST
They are made of Coconut leaves,.....are they edible? Mike I just choked on my tea laughing.
I love your headband Mikey 😁😂😂🤣
Lmao the kitty is just like "Aye, I'm just here for the food, buddy!" Their culture is amazing, it seems a little similar to mine. You should attend a PowWow. I'm surprised you haven't since you frequent Arizona.
Woo-hoo!!! I give you extremely high marks for going on-stage and doing the 'ami' ... ^_____^
Welcome to Moana's hometown
Moanaaaaa ! Where are youuuuuu !!!
next time you go to Oahu go to Paradise cove luau that is authentic on the waianae side of the island.
next time around go sandy beach or if you have to go on a hike manoa falls is a great easy hike
In Chicago now is a snow storm and 20 degrees out. Watching almost naked men hopping around twirling fire sticks is a warming scene.
Did Carmen at Expedia recommended you the chief lua'a? Aston Waikiki beach hotel?
As you said, tourist trappy, still nice.
Totally enjoyable Thank you so much for sharing.Funny thing.I was looking forward to you tasting the pig almost as much as you were but when you went for the helping of it I thought it looked too dry but thought that I must be wrong!
Had to look this up from ur recent Video... Lol that pig was not worth the extra $$. The 7-11 version looked better by far.
me too
this video makes me sad.
K.D.Bryson Nostalgia? 🤔
John Doe nope; The were once a proud people, now reduced to a tourist attraction. Depressing.
cause this is not Hawaiian....it makes us locals sick to our stomachs...aloha , there is no kanaka ( Hawaiians ) here
what is so bad with tourist?
yeah it is sad Why wouldn't you try to do a luau that was done by a local family or something far less cheesy
You should try dukes in waikiki beautiful view of the beach and great food. As well if you travel back to north shore you should also try Giovanni's shrimp truck located in kahuku.
next time you're on Oahu try the luau at the Polynesian Culture Center down in Laie!
wth I didnt know you had another channel...yaaa more vids from one of my favorite vloggers!!
Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle, bahahaha you are too funny :)
I was here last week and enjoyed every bit of it. Chief's
i love that your honest bro #respect
Now i wanna go to Hawaii
Aloha! love you videos! Mike
Jackie Chan Jr will you be body surfing at the north shore? Try boogie boarding, it's fun and easy. For beginners I recommend makapu'u beach or the wall at Waikiki beach.
