This is weird. I have my smaller laser projector on the bench again, with a view to finally finishing it. It did "work", but it had the cheapo ILDA player and ports hanging out the back on cables. I only just thought about it again yesterday. And now I saw your video as one of the first on my YT home page. It almost seems like "they" can not only hear me through the phone, but can hear my thoughts, too. lol
(YT keep auto-culling my replies, and it's REALLY fecking annoying.) My smaller projector was built into the housing for one of those crappy things with the stepper motors. Using a 3W RGB module from AliExp. When I first got the RGB module, I was too eager to see some light out of it. I didn't have source of modulation to use, so I shoved a 5V wall wart directly onto the TTL / analog input. It immediately zapped the Blue diode. sigh I had to replace it with a similar 445nm diode. Probably one of the Casio ones. Got it working again, but the alignment for the blue diode is a tiny bit off, when the dot is projected on the wall further away. The galvos are just a cheap "25 Kpps" set as well. The only other projector I have, is the older one I built. That uses a big 20mm thick chonk of aluminium sheet in the middle, and two 6mm thick sides. The aluminium was actually from a Feebay listing, from somebody else's unfinished projector. That has one or two a Casio 445nm diodes, a Red module, about 300mW. Can't remember the power output of the green. I don't even remember the original max diode current. lol
I don't know exactly when they got involved. The lasers are considered hazardous devices and are regulated in the US by the FDA and CDRH. Many countries have regulations on these devices.
@@Zenodilodon sure, just I only knew about the fda and health things, I guess that covered drugs, and good safety, but lasers? Who is it boiling their pasta with a laser... Besides you 😂
At this point probably not. I wouldn't have a problem at all making the machine if given the funds but programming it to function is outside of the scope of my skills.
Why have negative and positive supply at all and not just invert the input if you need it 👀 Strange the problems didn't have their own protection to prevent overheating, considering how many tempreature sensitive things and monitors there are in a unit like that as a whole Do the galvonometers oscilate on their own?
The galvos work like a speaker does. Instead of moving in and out they rotate clockwise and counter clockwise. The dual rail power supply gives the proper polarity for operation in both directions and to run all the closed loop analog parts like the op amps on the amplifier board.
A lot of the chips for DC-DC converters do have over current/over protection built in however it's still a weak chain. These little converters are trying to handle constantly changing loads so an unexpected spike due to fly back voltage etc could also cook them.
@@Zenodilodonbut couldn't you change polarity using a transistor🙈 I wondered before about feeding the x and y feed from a crt into one of these and then just having that produce the image as the laser fires off of it, but if it isn't going to return to its starting position... I may need springs 😂

@@Zenodilodonhaha. Loved this video, I'm very envious you get to look inside these amazing machines and marvel at their glory. I too would never get bored looking at them. When you turn them on with the case open they are beautiful. Especially well made ones. Quick question, which do you think are better designed and manufactured, Light Space or Kvant?
@@halcyondaystunes Both Lightspace and Kvant are excellent brands. That's a tough call to say what is better because both have their upsides. Kvant is an innovating company and they offer things like OPSL and Beam Brush and use ScannerMax galvos. A top and Kvant is hard to beat, but their rapid innovation has reduced their practical design layout. When comparing direct diode systems I like Lightspace because they stick to very common sense design and they don't innovate themselves into a corner.
@@Zenodilodon For the consumer, there is no way on RUclips to set the audio sync to be switched off as standart. The video is in English originally. What other English is it trying to translate into? I understand the subtitles/voice translations might not be correct, the topic is a technical niche and my hearing is shot to like 25% so I mumble here and there. Another wonderful wideo. Thank you Patrick. :)
I keep going to your channel for my laser repair ASMR
New laser vid, just what I needed for my weeekend!
awesome video again love the galvo tester very good and simple idea im prety sure those would be usefull in the industry
The more tests you can do quickly, the more time you have for the stumpers!

@@phonotical A raster CRT is factors in magnitude faster than a galvo can move. The reverse is possible though. A CRT could run laser signals all day.
