1973: The best year of my life! I was 18, still believed in "happily ever after" and loved with all of my heart! Hanging with friends, drive in movies, and the one and only love of my life! It didn't end well, but the happy memories will follow me forever. Thanks for sharing some happy memories! 😘
Jim Croce. It was a Friday morning. I just turned 16. I sat down to breakfast, opened the Daily News and there it was: Singer Jim Croce dies in Plane Crash. I was so upset I couldn't go to school. I cried for a week. His voice still brings tears. I just loved him. I still do. 💔
In such a short period of time he left plenty of songs. When Jim Croce died "I Got A Name" was hitting the charts. It's sad that him & Bruce Lee died that year. Those were very sad days when they died. But Jim Croce's music will always live on. It's as though his beautiful music speaks a poetic language.
I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news on the radio that Jim Croce had died. I was driving to work and know the cross street I was at. It was that upsetting.

@@filthyanimal874 I don't know if you believe in reincarnation. I'm not sure I do. But I think some "souls" are older than others. I can't explain it. It's just there. I've always been interested in history, major events and small events. It doesn't matter. If you view FredFlix, I know a little part of you, and you know a little part of me. Have a good Sunday.
Saint Michael , I think there’s something to reincarnation. I also believe some souls are a lot older than others. I strongly believe that this is my first life although I often see and feel specters around me. Sometimes they make me feel uncomfortable. I never believed in them until I saw one for the first time. It was at Concordia Cemetery in El Paso, Texas in late October at 10:30 in the morning on a Monday in bright daylight. It was also very cold. My wife was completely oblivious to it but I saw it. It was faded orange in color and was wearing a cowboy hat. It’s eyes were completely black and it was invisible below its knees. It was staring at us. I didn’t sense evil but it was an uneasy feeling. After all, cemeteries are sacred blessed ground where no evil can enter. Sometimes they get too close and you can feel them. In my garage I was once looking at a picture of a family member in my cellphone and I felt a young lady get close to me and she was looking at the picture in my phone!!!! I saw her plain as daylight. She must have been around 16 years old and wearing old style clothing like a loose robe. It was really nice having this exchange sir and I hope you have a great Sunday too. God Bless. Oh, and one more thing, I wonder what you were doing the day I was born? 4/28/75

I think this was the last year of good music in the 70's, before disco hit. I don't remember a lot of the other stuff - I was busy that year. Although I do remember seeing "The Sting" and figuring out the ending from the Mad Magazine treatment - about the only one I can remember that they gave away.
Yes 1973 was a great year because late August was my 2nd yr in High School as a junior. What was different was that for fall fashions, the Flair-bottom pants now were cuffed. That's what was unique about 1973 the Flair-bottom pants for that yr. I do remember buying a couple of pairs before going back to school. That fall I went back to school with a car 1967 Lemans Pontiac. It wasn't the greatest car but at least I had a set of wheels. When the Energy Crisis took place, Todd Rundgren was hitting the charts with "Hello It's Me." A nice jazzy rock tune. 1973 was a great year.
So funny, when I was in 5th grade we had an assembly and they showed us the movie The Sting...What were they thinking? Oh right, the teachers needed a smoke break...
I did a lot of dumb things in the 70's but keeping up with current fashion trends, thank God, wasn't one of them. It's hard to believe a guy could look at one of those outfits and think "that's got (me) written all over it".
Worse. I can't look at Greg Brady without seeing myself in a mirror. I had that look to a tee. The look here was pure Super Fly. It took over Soul Train.
Haha true ! The fashion - all the polyester and those yellows, browns , greens and burnt oranges ... that’s one decade all its own when it came to “ fashion” “trends” haha !
I wasn't allowed to watch that movie when I was a teenager when it came out. I did not watch it until I was twenty two. I'm glad I waited; it scared the Bejeezus out of me. Now, it just seems sort of campish and silly, but it's still an OK movie.
i been watching this guy's videos for a while now and they are great, the music he chooses the pictures of every day "new stuff" i can place myself back in time-9 years old listening to this song in the back seat of my dad's buick wildcat then money from pink floyd. patty barry the girl wow i still try to look her up sometimes just to remember chasing her at "frank school" in guadalupe arizona. 72 73 74 then we moved closer to phoenix and we all changed schools
Thank you for this wonderful video!!! Omg. Was Not that long ago, yet it was a time all it’s own! Once the 80’s began and people shifted focus to living way outside their means and over spending, being way too influenced by Hollywood/ music / entertainment/ fashion industry and the media and it’s influences& basically from 80’s on,, this world really underwent some major changes. It’s def. gone down hill and quickly has deteriorated. Glad to have been born in a time before the internet and all the complete selfishness and entitlement and horrible evils in today’s world. .its nice to reflect back over times like these ! 💗

I have no idea how. Live and Let Die - one of my favorite Bond movies. Prob because in NYC near start. Or a new, funnier Bond. Or maybe Sheriff J.W. Pepper!! One afternoon in summer 73, the robot radio station, WNBC - 66AM, played the movie's theme about 8 times in a row!!!

@06:05, the Zenith Chromacolor II, with a high voltage section design flaw, a four-lead "safety capacitor", which allowed the normal 25kv to exceed 75kv, and propel the electron guns straight through the screen, and into your living room. Oh, and I still have a "Nixon Penny"....
Great idea Fred putting the Twin Towers at the end of your fantastic rides down "memory Lane". Although I was stuck in the pediatric ward for a month in February with a bone disease called osteomyalitis, it was a very good year with hundreds of get well cards to boost my spirits.
Nice comment, Stephen.
Thanks, I was 15 turning 16, remember it all.
You're welcome, Jim.
Boy does that bring back good memories!

A VERY good year...my 16th...so much good music, good friends, fun times...wish we could go back...
Went to see Walking Tall in the theater that year. Great movie! Remember that Benson &Hedges ad. Used to smoke those before they got so expensive. Thanks for the memories Fred!!!
Paper Shadows I remember having to stock all those and the many other brands back in the day when they used to allow underaged kids to stock and handle them , before they ever put them back behind a counter and just had them on shelves in the stores lol. I think they allowed them to sit out in the open on store shelves til the end of the 90’s .. times have changed 😂.

Jackie Stewart was 1973's Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year.
"It's a g'deat, g'deat day for motorcar racing !"
God love Robin Williams.....He could sum up a person in one hilarious but true sentence.
Thanks Fred....1973, a great year, turned 18 yrs old and joined the United States Marine Corps. Best album EVER only my opinion "Band on the Run" Paul McCartney and Wings. Please invent the time machine and send me back to 1973.
I wish I could.

Thank you for your service.
@@elifoust7664 we served at the same time. Im the only Marine ever in my family. All my uncles served in the US Army including my dad who was a Ranger in the Korean War. During family reunions they give me a hard time. Thanks for serving Eli.
@@heygetoffmylawn1572 your welcome. It was an honor to serve
"Coffy--she'll cream you." Remember that? So many good memories. I graduated in 1973.
Me too. Is it just me or are our reunions a tad lackluster? I mean some of us did okay but no brain surgeons. Now everybody is just fat.
Saint Michael wow!!! You’ve been out of high school longer than I’ve been alive!!! I was born in the spring of 1975 and graduated high school in 1993. I still feel young though but, I know old age is just down the street.
@@filthyanimal874 In college. Most likely stoned! Peace, brother.
Thank you, my friend. Once again...and always. ❤ xxx
You're sweet, Jan.
@@FredFlix That's very kind of you, Fred. The fact is, you have once again made so many people happy. You always do. I read the comments and realize how many lives you touch, and how you consistently make everyone's day a bit brighter. That, my friend, is success. I'm a Scottish girl, and one of my favorite writers is Ian Maclaren. He wrote "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle." Fredflix just makes that battle a wee bit easier for us all. Or at least allows us to forget for awhile...
Going into Jr. High. The whole world changed for me. In a good way! Nice montage Fred!
Thanks Fred love going down memory viewing all your projects, and by the way Jessica was a brilliant pick for this one. Thanks again from a Canadian fan.
Should sa memory lane
You're welcome, George. I'll be visiting Canada for the first time this spring.
Thank you so much for those great memories. Wish I could go back.
First visited America in 1973 using a rented green 2-door Buick Century to drive around in. Emigrated to the US, from the UK, two years later. A good year!
Fred...that was beautiful. You really caught that time! 👍🏻
Thanks, Mike.
Thank you brings back a lot of memories was a great year!
You're welcome, Paparous.
Ahh yesss!! Great video and memories, my friend! I was still in the USN at the time and had been in over a yr in '73. I missed out on alot of what youve shown. (However, I still have the National Lampoon issue shown as Im a dog lover and loved the cover..funny stuff !!) lol

KC Casey thank you for your service ! God bless you !!!💗🙏🏽
Eli Foust God bless you and thank you for your service !! 🙏🏽💗
I think this was the last year of good music in the 70's, before disco hit. I don't remember a lot of the other stuff - I was busy that year. Although I do remember seeing "The Sting" and figuring out the ending from the Mad Magazine treatment - about the only one I can remember that they gave away.
The later '70's had great non disco music, we just ignored the disco crap
that was awesome. memories exploded from my past. nostalgia at its best. from a 67 year old.
1973 was a great year...... it was the year l was born. 😃😜🤪
jraoul711 me too.
Wow, PETA would be raising heck over that National Lampoon magazine cover today.
Beth Di Bartolomeo what I was thinking 😂
I was born in ‘73!! Was there for the whole thing, born in January....lol
callmelyn73 I was born in April.
Onion Ring Lol... I’m older! (Barely) 😉😂. Happy 46th for next month!
Thanks Fred .........the year I graduated..........a lifetime ago.
You're welcome, Pinslayer.
Skydog, and Elizabeth Reed. Well done Fred, as always!💖
Thanks, Pamela.
So funny, when I was in 5th grade we had an assembly and they showed us the movie The Sting...What were they thinking? Oh right, the teachers needed a smoke break...
Geez, I think they had some dumb field trip to see that at the theatre near my middle school. I wasn't interested ...
17 yrs old. Go back in a heartbeat...
Oh man, those three guys at 4:43 sum up perfectly what was wrong with '70s fashion. Especially the guy with the yellow pants and big hat.
@Liberty Tree maybe are fathers are related. Sounds very familiar.
Haha true ! The fashion - all the polyester and those yellows, browns , greens and burnt oranges ... that’s one decade all its own when it came to “ fashion” “trends” haha !
@@breAnnasmama I like those colors and look good in them. Unfortunately, most people don't.
I was 12 years old when all this went down.
John Bonardi 💗
My mom was taken to the exorcist movie she was only 16 her older sister & brother in law took her
I wasn't allowed to watch that movie when I was a teenager when it came out. I did not watch it until I was twenty two. I'm glad I waited; it scared the Bejeezus out of me. Now, it just seems sort of campish and silly, but it's still an OK movie.
‘73 was AMAZING!!
I graduated from High School and join the U.S. Marines

i been watching this guy's videos for a while now and they are great, the music he chooses the pictures of every day "new stuff" i can place myself back in time-9 years old listening to this song in the back seat of my dad's buick wildcat then money from pink floyd. patty barry the girl wow i still try to look her up sometimes just to remember chasing her at "frank school" in guadalupe arizona. 72 73 74 then we moved closer to phoenix and we all changed schools

@@FredFlix OK. :)

Great comment Kri MD and all very true.
Remember this year very well! 1/2 HS Junior year, 1/2 senior year. First time drunk. First job that wasn't a paperboy. Father remarried after Mom passed. So many changes, so much life weirdness. Just continued being the nerdy dork I was (and most of my friends were too). Hung with the gear heads/gas pump jockeys. Stayed pretty much on the straight and narrow, despite all the life changes.
Nice memories, Jeff.
