I'm relatively new to dual sport bikes (also on a WR250R) and have been keen to check out this general area since I have heard so much about it in the various FB groups. Thanks for giving me a sense of what it is like.
Sure glad I watched this, was going to attempt this run this weekend trying to come in from Yalacom river side around Poison mountain on my 901exp and my buddies KLR and looks a lot rougher than I thought? But isn't that all ways the case :-) I should have probably added the intersection you pointed out as "Gaspard FSR" I could not find on Google maps? Best guess was this was just North of mud lakes???
I have tried to come at it from that side several years ago and it was very rough and very confusing. The video does not do the inclines justice, very steep! The Gaspard connection is tough to tease out even on a backwoods app like Gaia. I have seen the Gang Ranch end, and now the south end but nothing in between. The 'ramp' would only work for a dirt bike unless you want to haul it up by ropes
I have seen the top end where it pops out just west of Gang Ranch, and now the south end, but not the middle. Wait for the next vid (withing a couple of days) before you set out looking for it!
End of August with my loaded up DR650 I tried to rail around the mud hole just to your right. Ended up slipping out in the mud and low siding with the bike upside down in the mud hole. Was also solo, took me almost an hour to get my bike out of there. I will have to upload the video
Deja vu! I was just up through Gold Bridge 19-20th! In on the Hurley and out on the Highline. Stayed at Tyax. In between I suggested we head up to Mud Lakes but the group decided to trip out past Downton Lake instead. We were on the big bikes. Hope you got through the Mud Puddle of Doom!! Years ago we tried to get to Gang Ranch via Yalakom again in big bikes but had to turn around just past Poison Mtn. Too rocky and way too hot!! We were about 2 km from where you got stuck. Look forward to your next vid to see how far you got.
thanks for the video,i,ve been camping and riding up there for years on my dr650,and always stopped at the north mud lakes rec site, and have opted out of that trail, above my pay grade on a dr,,that was scary,,cheers
@@AdventureMine2022,,, for me as a solo rider,of some skill.knowing when to turn around is half the battle to keeping safe, and now i know whats up there..glad you made it,..cheers
Oh that's cool. Gaia for navigation. Take a bit to get used to it but it is really good. I pay a bit each month for the premium, but the free one is totally good enough.

Glad it helped. It is pretty easy riding up to the second lake, rough after that. Well worth a ride in there for the scenery.
Spent a lot of time here back in the day. Back when Pearson Pond still existed. Camped and four wheeled all over this area.
I can see why. It's a beautiful area.
@@AdventureMine2022 Yes, truly hidden desert gem. Gold Bridge, abandoned mining towns, Carpenter, Gun and Downtown Lakes and very little traffic/use.

And yes, just north of the last lake.
At 20:51 you mention Gaspard FSR. Have you ever gone this route. Looks compelling.
Looking forward to the next part.
Love the content. ❤

Ya, and right about then you remember you are all by yourself way out in the middle of no where! Glad you got out OK.

Downton is another beauty in that area. Rode to the headwaters a couple of years back. Thanks for watching!

Ya, very scary and way out of my skill range. Beauty area tho.

@@murraybarber777 Yep. Totally agree.
Love your channel. Inspired me to sell my street bike and buy an old bmw 650 GS single. What nav software do you use?
