as someone with mixed race family, it is true that when a biracial child is diagnosed with leukemia their nonbiracial family members are seen as a last resort in terms of bone marrow donation, however, that doesn't really mean anything when so many people are perfect blood matches with perfect strangers. Like my mother and I have different blood types and she couldn't be a blood donor for me, is she suddenly not my mom anymore?
Yeah it’s only bone marrow that needs to be a super specific match the donor in most cases needs to be the same ethnicity. Also like it’s not a race thing it’s an ethnicity thing a German and a scot might not be compatible but they’re still both white
@@fayerawcliffe7794 Oh I know, I wasn't trying to defend the dude's weird anti-race mixing thing, just saying that yes, that is something that happens. And also, exactly, because a lot of lesser known blood groups are rooted in geographic locations like the Kidd group (sorry about my coherence, I am on nyquil for the flu and am not fully lucid)
With regular blood donations, we don’t want a donor from the family because bloods that’s too genetically similar increases the risk for graft vs host disease. Which is especially scary for immunocompromised patients.
As someone with a rare disease, I follow Bad Medical Takes and it makes me feel a lot better about the shiz I hear about how to heal myself, why I’m responsible for my genetic disease or all the people (docs included) who said I COULDN’T be sick for the first few years of normal test results before they finally found the culprit.

we do need to destigmatize crack, specifically because in destigmatizing drug use we also help destigmatize addiction and that in and of itself can help many addicts. (I am not endorsing using crack, I am endorsing making addiction help more accessible by removing the stigma around being an addict)
It's surprised me (although it shouldn't have, given the context) how acceptable it still is to look down on and make fun of crack addicts. Even in spaces where "addiction is a serious disease" is the consensus, crack doesn't seem to apply.
I agree with helping addicts, but I don't think that would work at all if we just stopped stigmatizing drugs. We need to better fund clinics and hospitals to have the hope to help all the drug addicts before we start destigmatizing drugs.
I fully agree. At school we had like a lecture on drug use and my teachers entire point was that he was going to be fair by saying all the good effects as well as the bad ones or something idk. Then at some point he started to talk about addiction and then he says he would bring a drug addict (I'm pretty sure he specified a recovered one but maybe not) in but that would be "dangerous". Like no drug addicts aren't all dangerous (obviously some are) and it just annoyed me sm he said he would be fair then stereotyped people who are suffering with addiction like most of them (if not all) had no choice in that addiction. Addiction happens for so many reasons from things as simple as getting addicted to pain medication after a serious injury to having used it as a coping mechanism for trauma and it going too far or maybe they just lived that life style. Either way they still deserve respect and don't deserve to be shamed for their struggles.
depression is obviosly not a choice, its a coping mechanism, but it is our own responsibility to choose active healing. no one will come pulll you out of depression it is a choice you make to create a better life your yourself in all the ways that you can.

The childhood trauma thing is from when people were talking about things they've retained from abusive situations as a kid- like needing to have learned from footsteps or keys jingling if you should hide. Some people only saw the very surface level of the conversations and thought they were saying good hearing/vision/etc = traumatic childhood, hence the post.
I still freak out when my roommate comes home and opens the door. Keys jingling is also a trigger, along with car doors being slammed. Hell, I'll get nervous if someone starts talking in another room when I'm laying down to take a nap.

Yes we DO need to get rid of the stigma around doing crack so people with serious drug addictions can seek out help without fear or their lives being ruined from imprisonment, difficultly finding jobs, isolation, etc. crack addiction is not good in any way, though and it’s definitely not a “miracle medicine”
From my experience, drug addicts don’t care about “stigma”. In fact most people on drugs couldn’t give less of a shit about anything. bc that’s what drugs do to you. The vast majority of drug addicts will never seek out help on their own regardless of stigma around their drug/s of choice. Drugs cause physical dependency, and withdraw symptoms and drug induced paranoia make it almost impossible to go through alone. People need support from family and friends to push them into rehab and also to force them to stay in it. Unfortunately, lack of familial support is what often causes drug addiction in the first place The other major problem for victims of drugs is the lack of care facilities and rehab facilities. Sometimes even if you do have support trying to help you, there are not any nearby facilities available to you. Whether it be to price or lack of facilities altogether. The government simply does not care about the misfortunate. They do not want to put money into helping the poor, the mentally ill or the physically ill. While it would be nice to get rid of stigma around drug abuse simply to educate, I do not believe that it will help anyone struggling with addiction.
One of my neighbors growing up smoked crack and tbh I felt bad for him cause he had no family and he probably did drugs cause he was sad. I hope things are better for him now.
Agreed. But goddamn how stupid does that guy have to be to say crack is a miracle medicine and LITERALLY POST A PICTURE OF HIS CRACKPIPE ONLINE (drug paraphernalia is illegal in most places lmao)
Absolutely. I remember in high school the first time I saw a video on why drug addiction even happens in the first place. I've been firmly on the side of de-stigmatization ever since.

As someone who's chronically ill, I do think we need both better healthcare and better health education, because we shouldn't have this situation where chronically ill and disabled folks are generally specialists who have to train their doctors on their conditions and healthier folks often don't have the tools/training/doctors to get proper and timely help. And maybe that would finally, finally stop all the "have you tried yoga?" asks.
For real!! I’ve had multiple doctor appointments where I brought up points about my condition they hadn’t even considered. I’ve stopped going to doctors (except for my therapist and psychiatrist) pretty much all together now. I live in the middle of nowhere and I’m done with my days of making 6 hour round trip drives just to have a doctor say 2 sentences and then blame me for my own pain. The only reason health care and health education sucks is so they can constantly take your money with all the doc appointments, medication, and treatments If it was better they wouldn't be making as much money

That's so awesome that he was willing to learn and so curious. I'm afab and trans and this is one of the reasons I don't usually mind explaining trans stuff to people. I like encouraging people's curiosity, even if it can be a little awkward sometimes. I've explained to my friends how bottom surgery works and explained to so, so, so many people how hormone therapy works, for both trans women and trans men (I don't know a ton about hormone therapy for trans women, but I know the basics, and a lot more than most cis people). I do think we need more robust sex ed which includes basic education about birth control and hormones and safe sex. My health class was about 15-20% actual useful info and 75-80% scaring us about STDs and telling us that we couldn't have sex safely. They told us about condoms and birth control, sure, but never mentioned the astronomically low chance of them being used together, or of other options to be intimate with a partner that didn't include vaginally penetrative. They never encouraged us to get regular std testing, even if we weren't active. And, of course we never learned about gay or trans people at all. I had a better health/sex ed course than a lot of kids and it still was sorely lacking. If I could handle kids and people more, and I was able to make a living as a teacher, I might try and go into the field to help fill the gap, but it's just not my calling. Instead, I'll just keep reminding people that gay animals exist with my biology degree ^-^
@theConcernedWyvern I feel that. I'm a trans woman, myself, and I don't mind answering people's questions about trans related stuff at all. 90% of the time I can tell it's coming from a place of genuine curiosity and just not knowing but wanting to understand things better. Also hard relate on the sex-ed thing in school. I don't know what country you're from (assuming US since most people I encounter online are even though I'm not), but they basically just showed us extremely graphic footage of a woman giving birth, tried to scare us about STD's, and had us practice putting condoms on a dildo. Definitely could have been more helpful lmao
Randomly becoming someone’s sex ed teacher is SO REAL. I’ve started giving sex ed lessons to a sex repulsed aroace person 😂. I'm assuming the peripheral vision one is about hypervigilance. Like, the original tiktoks were probably along the line of "you know your childhood was traumatic when you're always watching what's going on out of the corner of your eye" or something, and then a bunch of people probably said "omg I do that. Does that mean I have trauma??" I obviously can't say if any of those people were actually being hypervigilant due to trauma, but the medical take itself is just framing an actual thing in a very odd way.
Yes that’s what it’s about. I’m sure there’s correlation between being hyper vigilant in that fashion and trauma, but saying being hyper vigilant MEANS your traumatized 100% is wrong.

I don't have it but schizophrenia has a genetic component. Environmental conditions can accelerate it I belive but you can't "stop" it. Although medication can help regulate the symptoms. Telling a system that they are losing touch with reality on the other hand and prescribing medications for them that don't do anything... well that's less useful but hey, what are you going to do 🤷♀️ I belive there's some genetic component to being able to form DID or OSDD or chance to develop it? as well but idk the details on that.

gonna throw out a weird take lol at 6:17 . there is actually a conversation to be had about the social stigmatization of crack. the only real difference between crack and coke is baking soda, and yet the way that people are demonized for consuming crack versus the image of coke being a cool party drug is pretty absurd. love the vid tho :)
Yea while it’s mostly that the ‘only difference’ between crack and cocaine is baking soda in the synthetic process, it makes a huge difference in the distribution and metabolism of cocaine in the body, and in the onset time and duration of their effects. Crack has significantly more abuse potential because its onset and duration of action is shorter than for cocaine, coupled with the fact that the highs are higher and the crashes happen much faster with crack smoking than with other cocaine routes of administration. That’s to say that the smoking route delivers the drug’s effects much quicker than snorting, and you can’t smoke cocaine but you can smoke crack. You’re right that crack use is demonized disproportionately, largely because of its class and racial dimensions, but there is reason to believe crack is more addictive than cocaine. Neither crack nor cocaine use should be glamorized or demonized, they should be understood for what they are and people with substance use disorders deserve dignity and compassion irrespective of their drug of choice.

My knee had been hurting and impacting my day to day life. It finally got to the point where I was tired of the pain so I went to the doctors to see what was wrong and unfortunately I overheard one of the medical professionals in the hall say that I should lose some weight and that might help. I was frustrated and disappointed that someone who’s a medical professional would even think to say this, even if it wasn’t to me directly it’s still very concerning especially since I’ve struggled with how I view my body my whole life. 💔
That’s really shitty. I understand where they’re coming from in the sense that excess weight really can put a lot of additional stress on your joints, but that scenario still shouldn’t have happened. The doctor should have taken your concerns seriously and ordered tests/X-rays etc to make sure that everything else was alright before basically just jumping to the conclusion that it’s your weight that’s the cause. So many heavier set ppl die because of medical neglect and it’s bs. Please know that the size of your body doesn’t determine your worth or attractiveness. You don’t have to change yourself to get approval or attention. If you want to work on your health in one way or another that’s cool, but the act of you being overweight does not matter. There is no morality associated with weight or size. I really hope your knee pain has subsided or that you’ve at least gotten some answers. ❤❤❤❤

4:24 as someone who experienced childhood trauma, while good peripheral vision does not automatically mean your childhood was traumatic, it can be a skill learned as a child because when you are constantly in danger you need to be constantly hyper-alert and aware. Although good peripheral vision does not make someone’s childhood traumatic it is a shared aspect of many childhood trauma survivors and was developed to help us survive.
The peripheral vision one is a response to various "signs you grew up in an abusive household" and it's just stuff like "you see people walking behind you" and "you can hear when cars pull into the driveway" It's like those "if you can blink in time to the song you have autism" posts, with the added ick of accusing people of abuse if their kids use their eyes and ears at all
Crack is (obviously) not a miracle medicine, but we do need to destigmatize it for harm-reduction reasons. We can't really stop people from doing recreational drugs, but we can make it less dangerous by treating drug users with respect and supporting them with relevant resources. I once saw a dirty needle on the sidewalk when I was at work today and it's sad to see anywhere. But I never thought of a needle exchange before. I feel like if that were more common, that could help many people and not just addicted folks (like diabetics for instance who need to inject insulin).
@@MadameSomnambule Yeah, having a needle exchange is just great for everyone! Me and my trans guy friends have all used our local needle exchange to safely dispose of and replace our testosterone injection needles, and I think the exchange is also the reason why I never see used needles on the ground in our area. I think one of the issues with the whole "just stop being depressed" thing stems from people who are not depressed but in a state of sadness that find they can snap themselves out of it and assume it was depression. So in their mind if they can just "stop being sad" then surely depressed people can as well! It's just hard for people to fully tell if what they have is depression or not and sometimes people can label things that arent depression as depression and people with depression can think they don't have depression then shame themselves when they find they cant just "not be sad".

It gets better and then it’ll get worse. I only get through life by remembering that so many people in my life would miss me. I’ve also recently gotten kitten whom I love so much already. Having people and animals that can ground me in the reality that I’m not useless and I am loved helps so much, but there are still times that my brain will just not function correctly in regulating my mood or the chemicals in my brain. Anyone who is also dealing with depression, just know that it will get better. Healing is not linear so there will still be some hard days after it gets better, but always keep fighting to live for the good and great days out there. Remember that no matter what, there are people out there who love and appreciate your presence in their lives.
I wants had a sis white conservative tell me that people who have adhd and other mental things can’t donate their organs when they die. I wanted to call him out on his bs, So I decided to call my grandmother who is the head nurse of the transplant sector in our local hospital, and ask her if that was true. She responded with “that was the dumbest question I have ever been asked.” Keep in mind my grandmother is a really polite person for her to say that is the equivalent to disowning me.

I think the peripheral vision one is pertaining to those tiktoks that says shit like "you have childhood trauma if you memorized your family footsteps tempo" or any habits of being "hyper vigilant".
I found that short form anything is usually not the best way to communicate about mental health problems and trauma unless you're venting. Those kinds of conversations usually need more detailed text/videos.
Doesn’t everyone memorize their families footsteps? Like subconsciously? When my mom walks down the stairs I can tell it’s her and not my sister or the cat
@@fart63 hence why those tiktoks are so dangerous. Some trauma survivors from domestic abuse DO memorize footsteps to know who are knocking at their door or who is coming. But then again, memorizing footsteps doesnt mean you are abused. it just clouds conversations about trauma. It is almost the same when people from tumblr are giving "symptoms" for depression like "you are clinically depressed if sometimes you are sad for no reason."
Depression can be improved a lot tho with lifestyle choices for many people. But that's usually for people with mild to middle severe depression, high functioning people or episodes. And even then not everyone has access to a therapist, or even a good one that tells you what to change to make it better😭
“Their putting a tracking device in you.” Alright! That gives me some relief in the event that my life might be in danger and I need to be found. How soon can I make an appointment?
You have too much faith in the government. They'd inject us with bad quality microchips that constantly glitch out, and say you're in the Pacific ocean or something.
my guess is that the “just because you have good peripheral vision” one is responding to the… interesting brand of internet (especially tiktok) pop psychology that’s like “if you do [general thing that lots of people do] you have [specific mental health thing / trauma]” or whatever. like i can absolutely picture some tiktoker trying to tell us that good peripheral vision is a sign of childhood trauma because you would’ve had to be hypervigilant and hyperaware all the time or something like that. so without further context, i read the tiktok screenshot as like “guys c’mon let’s be serious” but i could be interpreting it wrong 🤷
If I had a nickel for every time I've heard people unironically say "you have depression? just don't be so sad, stupid!" I could actually afford a therapist

Throwback to a kid in my class telling my teacher (who has clinical depression) “If you cant tell me a reason why you’re depressed then you aren’t depressed”
At 11:07 my jaw DROPPED! I thought “The Beast” was a thing ‘King of The Hill’ made up. I had no idea that people actually believed it and that it was a real conspiracy. I’m flabbergasted lol.
Oh, you would not BELIEVE how many things are accused of being Satanic. Vaccines are the mark of the Beast, Pokémon is Satanic, Harry Potter makes kids witches, etc.
@@genericname2747 I think my favorite example of this is when I saw someone on the internet freaking out about the vaccine containing luciferins. I don't know what study did they misread or misunderstand, but it's kind of hilarious. You see, if it contained luciferins, you'd know immediately. Because they GLOW. That's the whole POINT. "Lucifer" literally means "light-bearer".
"Just because your peripherals are good doesn't mean your childhood was traumatic" So I can see this a bit. People with childhood trauma develop hyper-awareness to surroundings. With hyper-awareness, focusing on peripherals and reacting strongly to movements within this field of vision make sense, especially for physically violent trauma from unpredictable parents. I.e. you have to be hyperaware so you can dodge a hit. That said, the poster is right. Hyper-focusing on peripherals can happen for a variety of reasons that don't necessarily stem from childhood trauma, and not all childhood trauma leads to peripheral focusing. And I think what they're trying to say (poorly) is that people are misdiagnosing themselves because of a false correlation. Of course, they're saying that they will not believe you if you tell them that you've experienced childhood trauma and what that's done to you. I searched Google Scholar for a second and read some abstracts. The experience is "hypervigilance", which prolonged exposure to can make some people have good peripherals by sheer necessity and experience. There's an interesting one about Test Anxiety that suggests that people with High Test Anxiety maintain a "broad distribution of attention". Just playing around with ideas, but if everyone hypothetically has a "distribution of attention", then "hypervigilance" could be seen as "disruption in distribution". This could express itself in different ways including hypervigilance and hyper-focus that ADHD people talk about. I saw a TikTok one time of a guy saying that we should relabel ADHD to Attention Regulation Disorder. Now we have a "distribution of attention" that is unique to everyone (i.e. I imagine mine like bell curves with the middle being the thing I need to focus on) and then we can apply models of distribution. Psychology is complex. What interests me more is the fact that the individual posted it. What are their experiences with people that have lead to this, or are they just parroting a saying? If they're a parrot, then where did this saying come from? Do they just deny/disbelieve people who claim childhood trauma and act like a jerk? Why is this in "bad medical takes"? So many questions, answer I'll never have because I don't want to exist in that sphere of the internet. But it is a pretty bad take to have on the internet in such a simplistic form for a nuanced topic.
i was worried this account was similar to the toxic 'fake mental illness cringe' reddits but it actually turned out to be very funny !! the fake disorder cringe place is so awful, and most of the time its either ableist or posting people who are even professionally diagnosed with stuff. :^/
It also always comes from such a misinformed place. There's a lot of misinformation about mobility aids, for example. In general it's nothing but these people going "you have to PROVE you're ill to me" and a lot of it also seems to focus on the fact that, god forbid, some people with disabilities are happy and have learned how to be comfortable in their skin and embrace their disability as a part of them.
People who fake Tourette’s seem to be the most common, and if it wasn’t so horrible it would hilarious. They don’t seem to actually know anything about Tourette’s so they just end up looking completely dumb. While these people don’t actually have the disorders and illnesses they fake, they clearly do have mental problems. I wish help was more available.
I’ve seen some of the faking ND complications use tiktokers that are literally diagnosed with adhd and autism but then the comments are making fun of them for being ‘stereotypical’ like some people just can act stereotypically ND at times
i know my dad's footsteps going up the stairs and walking in a hallway, he has never touched me in my life, god forbid i notice how people i live with walk and sound like. and god forbid my adhd makes me notice the stupidest things in my peripheral vision, not every quirk in life is a trauma response
@@goldenwolfae why would I be? People don't care for the emotional needs to neurodivergent kids, so obviously they grow up neglected and traumatized because the needs were considered whining
@@draalttom844 Honestly for me its a case of my whole family being a little neurodivergent and only really seeing it when i got my diagnosis of adhd and telling my family my story of what i go through. This led them, mostly my dad, to also see that they thought like me. and that's why he found it hard to relate to other people's though processes.
@@draalttom844dog what- I’m autistic and fully diagnosed, and I have *never* had childhood trauma (for the most part at least). My parents haven’t neglected me, and the only beings that have ‘abused’ me are cats, roosters, and my snake 😂 Closest thing I could think of to childhood trauma was my fear of sports balls because I thought they’d hit me (admittedly I still have that fear but sh dont tell anyone), or the traumatizing nature of the internet. Sometimes it’s just genetic or innate. I don’t mean to be rude, but it’s harmful to say that all neurodivergent people have some form of childhood trauma. Sometimes it’s literally just in the brain, like how we often have chemical imbalance in the brain and other things.
my therapist called it my spidey sense, haha. its like my ears twitch in the direction of a sound i see as a threat. my peripherals are sometimes better than my normal vision. i am far sighted, so most indoor environments become squinting contests.
Omg....about Depression and Anxiety. I had a friend who kept complaining her friends would cancel last minute because of "anxiety" and how they just used that as an excuse. Then a few years later she is deep down into severe depression with intense anxiety.... Just to say that people don't understand until they experience it themselves.
7:14 It really is insane how much some medicines cost, especially the ones people need to survive. I currently have a stomach bug and had to get some antibiotics and prescription nausea medication to deal with it because it’s worse than usual. My insurance denied coverage to the anti-nausea meds and those alone would’ve cost me $250. Luckily the pharmacy techs were super sweet and helped me find a bunch of coupons and whittle the price down to only $20, but I can’t imagine how much worse that would’ve been if it was a life saving medication like insulin. If they can charge these ridiculous prices for what is essentially prescription strength pepto bismol, I genuinely don’t want to think about how high the prices are for more potent or life-saving drugs.
The peripheral vision thing is a take on the hypervigilance developed by children brought up in a traumatic environment as a survival instinct. It isn't actually about vision, but attention, scanning the room, etc.

we do need to destigmatize crack, specifically because in destigmatizing drug use we also help destigmatize addiction and that in and of itself can help many addicts.
@@samg6940 it's because crack is associated with poor people.
I agree I felt kinda sad to see that. I work in harm reduction and I felt disappointed seeing people making fun of people who use drugs:(
I agree with helping addicts, but I don't think that would work at all if we just stopped stigmatizing drugs.

I just thought they were confusing peripheral vision with hindsight. Like, having hindsight on your past not being ideal doesn't make it traumatic

Yeppp harm reduction works
From my experience, drug addicts don’t care about “stigma”. In fact most people on drugs couldn’t give less of a shit about anything. bc that’s what drugs do to you. The vast majority of drug addicts will never seek out help on their own regardless of stigma around their drug/s of choice. Drugs cause physical dependency, and withdraw symptoms and drug induced paranoia make it almost impossible to go through alone.
People need support from family and friends to push them into rehab and also to force them to stay in it. Unfortunately, lack of familial support is what often causes drug addiction in the first place
The other major problem for victims of drugs is the lack of care facilities and rehab facilities.

I'm assuming the peripheral vision one is about hypervigilance. Like, the original tiktoks were probably along the line of "you know your childhood was traumatic when you're always watching what's going on out of the corner of your eye" or something, and then a bunch of people probably said "omg I do that. Does that mean I have trauma??"
I obviously can't say if any of those people were actually being hypervigilant due to trauma, but the medical take itself is just framing an actual thing in a very odd way.
Yes that’s what it’s about. I’m sure there’s correlation between being hyper vigilant in that fashion and trauma, but saying being hyper vigilant MEANS your traumatized 100% is wrong.
@@malevolentsnow9867yeah its like, trauma CAN cause hypervigilance, and hypervigilance CAN be derived from trauma, there is a strong link there, but by no means is that ‘can’ an ‘ALWAYS’
Unfortunately, that TikTok was referring to a trend where people moved their phone out of their periphery until they "couldn't see it," and the further they went the worse the trauma. Hardcore pain Olympics there.
@@HorsesICI mean, direct correlation in my case, if "trauma" includes "the director will throw a stress ball at you if you miss your cue" 😅 she made us do something like the phone thing to prove to us that even if were staring at our fingers we could still see her hands
Depression can be genetic, so can a few other mental illnesses and neurodivergence, such as ADHD. You were right on the mark!
(Oh, and on the crack in your meds- i mean, meth is in the same family of one of the plants used in ADHD meds. At the end of the day, they're just plants, and plants can be utilized in tons of different ways)
Please be careful comparing ADHD medication to meth without being very specific. Desoxyn is methanphetamines, but it is rarely prescribed anymore. Most other ADHD meds are in the amphetamine family, but should not be compared directly with meth.

I don't have it but schizophrenia has a genetic component. Environmental conditions can accelerate it I belive but you can't "stop" it. Although medication can help regulate the symptoms.
Telling a system that they are losing touch with reality on the other hand and prescribing medications for them that don't do anything... well that's less useful but hey, what are you going to do 🤷♀️
I belive there's some genetic component to being able to form DID or OSDD or chance to develop it? as well but idk the details on that.

gonna throw out a weird take lol at 6:17 . there is actually a conversation to be had about the social stigmatization of crack. the only real difference between crack and coke is baking soda, and yet the way that people are demonized for consuming crack versus the image of coke being a cool party drug is pretty absurd. love the vid tho :)

As an addict in recovery, it is important that we end the stigmas around drugs and addiction but, obviously crack has absolutely no medicinal value! One could argue that heroin and other opiates at least have the ability to relieve pain but, crack literally has no positive effects on its users. Either way, I agree that crack is probably the most stigmatized drug which has a lot to do with racism actually.

That depression one annoyed me so much, because my mother always gets on my brother to “stop being so irresponsible” and “think about other people for once” just because he has serious trouble getting out of bed in the morning even though she knows he has diagnosed depression from our father’s death. Tell me: is it selfish to have symptoms of an illness that you are diagnosed with?
This was told directly to my face by a doctor. Years later I was diagnosed with hypermobility. Gee I wonder why my knees were so prone to injury and pain
The peripheral vision one is a response to various "signs you grew up in an abusive household" and it's just stuff like "you see people walking behind you" and "you can hear when cars pull into the driveway"

I think one of the issues with the whole "just stop being depressed" thing stems from people who are not depressed but in a state of sadness that find they can snap themselves out of it and assume it was depression.
"Just because your peripherals are good doesn't mean your childhood was traumatic"
So I can see this a bit.

It also always comes from such a misinformed place. There's a lot of misinformation about mobility aids, for example. If they can charge these ridiculous prices for what is essentially prescription strength pepto bismol, I genuinely don’t want to think about how high the prices are for more potent or life-saving drugs.
yah u just gotta ask for medications to be put through goodrx and most will end up costing about the same as they would on most insurances
