Another trick with dialing stuff in is if you can make a punch mark where center is then use a live center in the tailstock pushed up to a dead center on the part. Then dial in the dead center. Also helps keep pressure on the piece. Which sometimes can helpful.
One thing I like to do is stick the magnetic base for the indicator on the tool post. Then I can move it back and forth to zero as I start to dial it in. Saves having to do the math or move the indicator around. I don't like spinning the bezel either to get to zero.
I like to use 2 chuck keys.. Make a second shortie key for the back jaw.

Have use cotton to remove skin tags.
