The potential to this show is amazing! They have an AMAZING horn line this year! Loud too! Drill is strong and they are marching this drill pretty clean like... This is a full packaged show!!
@TheSyncopator Agreed! Last year.. I dont know. It seemed kind of dull. No one was really pushing the limit very much in my opinion. This year looks great.
@kevinbs05 Yeah, I love all three of those shows. And the Coats. And Ima die hard Crown fan for the past two years. But I do agree, the Cavs are taking gold this year.
My school was going to host them this year but we were too small by 8 people. It's a bummer, we had the Blue Knights last year. We were really disappointed.
Did anyone hear anything resembling a melody anywhere? The drill was amazingly executed. The drumline was what I'd expect from a Cavies Corps. I'm sure the horn line is up to par as well, but the horn book didn't really seem to give them a chance to shine.
Rough. Need to see it live. I do feel they are ahead of where they were last year this time, though I am under-wowed by the drill. I hear some "Machine", "Mad World" some "Bluecoats" and some "Blue Devils" in all of this. It is entertaining though. The music book is challenging. I know this show is far from finished
I saw them at a DCI Competition HOsted by the Toledo Glassmen Last Nigh att BGSU in Ohio and they, and Carolina Crown were the the Best followed by the glassmen.... The cadets still didn't seem to have it together just right yet?!?!?!?! Bu who knows, they are extraordinary....
I think Cavs, Cadets, And Crown all have a good chance this year. Out of all of them I think Cavs has the best shot at taking BD down, then again this is the beginning of the season. Cadets might get their act together and hey Crown might even too. Does anyone know exactly what the voice clips are saying in the beginning? "There was a boy, a very strange enchanted boy, they say he was an alien, alien - ***unidentifiable*** they see" I'm designing a tshirt with that quote on the back. lol
@Romeir20 i'm talking about the entire percussion section, along with paul rennick, phantom had no percussion vets. The section is made up of 2010 spirits percussion along with one cavi vet and some new people.
Top 5 : Cadets, Cavs/Crown (tossup), BD, Coats. The execution is already extremely strong in Cavs. But I believe the show that has got me the most interested is the Cadets this year. Crown is my all time favorite, but I think the top three will be the three c's. BD is still.. BD. and Coats are good but their show just doesn't stick out to me as much as it did last year, except they're playing radiohead which I love them more for.
Theres actually a TON of female drummers in California and on the west coast!! And yeah, but if you are spending your whole summer there you might as well push really hard and try your absolute best XD
@STApercussionkid I'm pretty sure all three of those corps have a really good chance of taking the Blue Devils down, now about who's going to win, I have to put my money on the Cavaliers.
Phantoms new percussion is the same as usual. Yes, it's a little dirtier then usual but guys its the first two shows of the season. We cant judge on that. battery-wise I'd probably say Phantom. But I'm just not feeling their front ensemble as much this year as I did last year. it seems like front ensemble belongs more to either Crown or Cavies this year. Of course this is all included in percussion, and like I said it's still early. But it just doesn't look good for Regiment this year.
@Romeir20 They are pretty clean but the writing lacks clarity and transparency. With Rennicks writing its all about the ensemble, with Gwaltney and Jordan its all about the percussion and the writing is just muddy. That is just my opinion though.
Really? Oh, well maybe in the earl days of DCI, but now that theres a more professional and intense atmosphere I think itd be cool! Might have a tiny bit of trouble FINDING the girls to do it but hey XD

Saw this at drum corps at the movies and all I have to is that this show is "XtraodinarY".
It's like a god damn movie =D
@TheSyncopator Agreed! Last year.. I dont know. It seemed kind of dull. No one was really pushing the limit very much in my opinion. This year looks great.
@Penguinlordb the basses also balanced on their drums and the drum major conducted upside down and a trumpet played upside down at the quarterfinals,
I'm seeing them sunday! They're rehearsing at my school! Can't wait!
@jewboy11505 the trumpet feature that they added is also pretty swee.....XtraordinarY :P
Their show seemed less complicated this year than those in the past..still love it though
Dang, they came a LONG way from the beginning of the season
@JMdCProductions Yeah they're just using parts of that version combined with Drew Shanefields(their brass arranger/composer) twist on it.
i've seen it live like 8 times. this wasn't there best but still amazing anyway

@STApercussionkid they say he traveled very far not he was an alien. Its the lyrics to Nature Boy

@Romeir20 i would not be betting on phantom to do anything, the only thing that kept them from placing lower than they did last year is now at SCV
@JMdCProductions They're using David Bowie's version from Moulin Rouge
Trumpet solo
okay so I'm a Crown fan who was severely disappointed by their music choices, but Cavaliers, this was amazing.
@STApercussionkid they say he wandered very far, very far, over land and sea
I really like the 2006 reference.

@TheIllusionTactician I FEEL THE EXACT SAME WAY!!!!!!
I think Cavs, Cadets, And Crown all have a good chance this year. Out of all of them I think Cavs has the best shot at taking BD down, then again this is the beginning of the season. Cadets might get their act together and hey Crown might even too.

I've ALWAYS wanted Nature Boy by Nat King Cole to be in a show. Always
@LedZepp32 yea i know, but you can still call them tubas

Thumbs up for upside down tenors... or should it be thumbs down?...
@atomikfzr1 just turn it up!!! :D you'll hear it
@JMdCProductions thats what i thought but i listened to it and it sounds different
@123mochiman
WERD!! I think the Cavies are taking the title in 2011. Very odd show but they have a pure sound.
One person plays the saxophone...
The Cavaliers ran away with it today here in Omaha! Blue Devils weren't up to par...
Theres actually a TON of female drummers in California and on the west coast!! And yeah, but if you are spending your whole summer there you might as well push really hard and try your absolute best XD
Not to say they aren't good as always, but the cavies have gotten kinda weird over the last couple years. I did love Madworld though.
@STApercussionkid I'm pretty sure all three of those corps have a really good chance of taking the Blue Devils down, now about who's going to win, I have to put my money on the Cavaliers.
@splooiehuh I have a strong feeling the Cadets are going to take it all......but one never knows
4:13 tuba beatboxing FTW!
3:32 someone passing out from having face melted
@themission18 those aren't tubas, they are contras...
LedZepp32 Tomato tomahto

@themission18 Those were the tubas?!?!?!
[Nevermind. i got the song, nature boy. i feel so dumb.]

6:00 ...tenors....upside down.....is there anything more Xtraordinary?
@beautifulliar77 lol I was there XD third row from the field though so i couldnt see any formations :(
Does anybody know who's version of Nature Boy they are using?
@themission18 that is hilarious.
Can I audition for the Cavaliers yet, or...
@themission18 Holy crap.......neh, why can't I do that on my clarinet? :P
Really? Oh, well maybe in the earl days of DCI, but now that theres a more professional and intense atmosphere I think itd be cool! Might have a tiny bit of trouble FINDING the girls to do it but hey XD

Wayne Shorter? Really?!
At like 6:04 pit ftw
@ddddddropthebass Tell a DCI contra player that they play a tuba and let me know how that goes lol
Wouldnt it be cool if there was an all FEMALE core? :D im a dude, but itd be cool lol
WHY DO I HAVE TO BE A WOMAN? I WANT TO AUDITION!
