Hello Sue, what a beautiful resting place! As you turned right underneath those lovely cool green shady trees you just passed a metal memorial cross at 37.37 all cut out in a beautiful lattice pattern. You don’t often see the true beauty of them standing rusted in a country grave yard, but just fleetingly the sun shone through it and gave a view of the artists creation, which was really beautiful to see! 💕sometimes as you turned a corner down another avenue of memorial stones, graves etc, I briefly felt like I was in a scene from Alice in Wonderland, as many of the tall shaped stones to me, resembled large chess pieces! Sorry! I’m not meaning to be disrespectful, but they really did/do!! Not as many mausoleums along here either. I do wonder who is charged to close and open each evening and morning? Or are they just left open all the time do you think Sue? I can quite understand why you fell in love with Belgium…..I have only been there once, interested in their lace making. My grandfather was there during the First WW, on his way back and forth from the front he made friends with a family who actually hid him when the Germans did an impromptu search……they hid and fed him for ten days when they could have been shot for doing it. He kept in touch a long time after the war and I have a photo of him with them and a silk hankie edged with lace and 1914-1918 embroidered in one corner over flags for England and Belgium. I’ve framed it, and it makes mr think what it must have been like for them all back then. My grandfather lived to be 91. Long life..many memories. You did very well walking all round this cemetery….it is lovely to see all the photos of the families together…it’s true! It does make you feel you sort of know these people. I agree the post mortem pictures aren’t for everyone, but it’s true, photos were expensive so families didn’t run to them much while people were alive, but of course when they died, especially children they really wanted a photo taken of their likeness as a memento but a child’s short life is particularly sad. I was thinking you ought to get a pedometer to wear as you walk round, to see just how far you have walked! You would surprise yourself I’m sure! Thankyou for such lovely filming of a truly lovely resting place. One of the nicest I’ve seen for a long time! Hope your back home safe and sound, and that you are all keeping well! Love and light! Helen 👩‍🦳💕💐💫😘😘🫶🙏xx
