- You can buy language learning kits that you will teach you a language in just 15 minutes a day. Learn a language in 12 weeks!
Or maybe they will just be full of random content and won't teach you anything, like these kits here. We're going to review some of the funnier aspects of "Learn French in just 12 weeks" as well as some stuff from the Italian and Chinese books too.

• How To Learn Languages
Guys, have you found other funny language learning resources?
English as She Is Spoke by Pedro Carolino 😅
You should create a twitter account too!
oo
Hotel: I'm sorry, we don't have any other rooms
The book: We'll take it!
It's just so weird haha. Why start with all those complaints?
This channel is getting big, and really you deserve what you're getting m8
Thank you!
I love free apps for Indian languages, they have really interesting content: God save the mighty King.We sincerely thank you. Welcome to our abode. Mention not! It was my duty... I still want to ask a native Tamilian if the Tamil version is as old fashioned as this. I gues they copied the content from a misionary language learning book from 1800. I don't know
Looool this had me creasing!!
Thank you, this genuinely gives me confidence going forward. I was saying to my friend last night that I genuinely have no idea if this is funny or not, because I am the one laughing at the book... so when I watch it back, it's funny to me because it was funny in the first place, if you get me? So unlike an actual "joke" that I come up with, I lose my gauge of what's funny and what's not.
So I really appreciate you saying that. 👍

Asking “do you have croissants” in a French cafe is like asking “do you have beer” at a restaurant in Czech Republic. Of course they have beer, it’s Czech Republic!
I know. Edited OUT of this video were about another 50 non-sensical phrases the book teaches like "Are you sick?"
"No."
"Ok, take these tablets." - ????
Useful phrases:
1. I'm the French prime minister.
2. I'm the Saudi King.
3. I'm a Nigerian Prince.
4. I'm a Jedi ambassador.
5. I was just a decoy.
6. I'm a sith lord
7. Fifteen minutes can save you fifteen percent.
8. You brought two too many...
9. I'm smarter than you.
10. That's just, like, your opinion man..
Haha, "ya brought two too many"... That's great!
I know the kind of person to use these books probably isn't the kind of person to go deep into phonology or whatever but writing the pinyin for Chinese without tones just...kind of makes me feel sick.
Hahaha, that was amazing😂🤣 I really hope no one took their advice... Btw, many people (me included) celebrate Christmas in January😄
Oh really?? Haha, I knew that Russians and other former Soviet countries did, but I didn't think any French speaking countries did.
That's strange too because Germany makes a big deal of the 24th of December right?
Honestly, most of my "points" in this video could be easily taken apart, like, the questions and sentences are there for the sake of learning structures, so "what" they say isn't important. The book just chooses really weird things, especially for its "useful phrases".
Days of French 'n' Swedish
Haha, yes, but it has nothing to do with the Soviet Union (religion was forbidden during that time). A lot of Orthodox Christians celebrate on the 7th of January because they used to follow a different calendar back in the day. There's also an Orthodox New Year two weeks after the "normal" one (but it's more informal). It's always funny to me when people forget about us, so that's why I mentioned it😄 But yes, most European countries celebrate Christmas in December.
Hmm, yes, the 24th is important but shops for example are not closed (they close a bit earlier but other than that it's a normal day). I think some people go to church on that evening but I'm honestly not sure what the traditions are (and if there are big differences between Catholics and Protestants).
@@daysandwords Yes, in Germany we celebrate the 24. We don't have much traditions that everyone does. Every family have his one different traditions. Some often same traditions are : have a great dinner whit the Family (duck is often used, or Sasuges whit potato salad), give presents under the tree and sit togheter until night. One of my family traditions is dekorate the Christmas tree in the morning. In my Part of the Countray 70-80% of the people don't go to church. I have only seen 4 or 5 churches, and that only because i am interested in History
I have the spanish one and now I feel like i got scammed 8 years ago, thanks
Actually, any of these books is funny. If you want to have some fun, grab a book of your native language for foreigners and you will find dozens of phrases you would never use being suggested in the weirdest context imaginable.
I still remember a dialogue from my English book we were using in some early nineties:
- Guess what?
- What?
- There are fifteen boys and seventeen girls in my class!
(I know this video is from a long time ago but I just found it so I'm commenting anyway) You did the opposite of click bait on this title because it totally could have said "Don't Buy These TERRIBLE Language Learning Books!!!" instead and it would have been accurate! Also I love a good Community reference.
Sorry, this has nothing to do with your recent video, but - would you consider doing a video on how to understand numbers in a foreign language? I find them extremely challenging to understand when spoken quickly by a native speaker. I can produce them but not follow them at all. It’s ok to get the gist of many conversations, but the gist of a number often doesn’t cut it.
BTW- Love your channel. Your Swedish accent is impressive.
Thank you! Do you speak any Swedish?
I filmed a video on Friday to answer this question! I haven't edited yet, and it was totally off the cuff, so it might not be that good, but yeah, it should be up soon! (By the way, the reason I filmed a video is that it's a great question. Not many people are prepared to admit exactly how hard that is, but I agree with you, it is tough.)
Hej- (I just exhausted my Swedish.) I love the country, the people, and the culture. Can’t wait to go back. I thought about trying to learn Swedish but the accent just seemed too hard. That’s one reason I am so impressed with yours.
And I agree. No one seems to talk about how to learn numbers. Most courses teach you 1-20, one hundred, one thousand, and tell you to carry on, like it’s nothing special. I can’t even find much discussion about why it’s hard. So I’m looking forward to your video.
BTW, I’m trying to learn German. It’s my second attempt but hope to stick with it this time.
@@AC-yl7rg OK kuhl!
Actually, I have another video coming out that will hopefully help you with 'sticking with it' because it's about how goals/new year's resolutions often don't work and why.
Well, thank you (about the Swedish). I am always wrestling with whether the accent makes Swedish harder than the grammar makes it easy... if that makes sense. Like, it has REALLY easy grammar, for basic conversation at least. And I can never figure out whether overall I prefer Swedish or French because the French accent is easy but the grammar is tough. I think I'd take Swedish because the accent kinda stays with you, whereas in French, there is always a new exception to learn.
3:03 Community reference! 😄
I think you're the first person to comment on that haha.
What is weird about asking croissants at a café? As a French person, this seems legit.
It's a joke, but as a foreigner, if anyone were to ask us to think of ONE French food, it would be a croissant. Like, it's the most famously French food ever.
And cafés in ENGLAND and AUSTRALIA very very often have croissants. Like, most of the time. So the joke was: you don't need to ask.
It's like asking if a pub in Australia has beer.
Who is the 1 dislike?
This video was amazing 😂😄 great start to my day haha
Thanks so much.
If it makes one person laugh as much as I laughed making it, then it was worth it.
😆
Your Godfather impression oh my word! made me laugh to hard
Haha thank you. I have a friend who is reeeeeeally into movies and I was taken aback when he said "Your Marlon Brando is unpexpectedly good". Made me wonder if I should try more impressions haha.

Since I don't really speak French, I thought you said "La police est la crime" instead of "La police et la crime" and I was kind of confused.
What's the opening music?
I dunno it's just stock music. I think that one came from the RUclips stock music library, but it maaay have been from Soundstripe (I am not sure when I switched over to Soundstripe.)
@@daysandwords ok. I love the music and the content. Subscribed!
Dude, your videos are getting so good! Keep working hard!
Thanks heaps, comments like that mean more than any kind of views or anything, so thank you.
This video wasn't even in focus haha, but I have a new light on the way!
Also filming a couple tomorrow, so thanks for the encouragement. 😃
@@daysandwords no worries man!! I can't wait for the more content! The comedy and the language and all the editing are spot on! The only channel that does this! So great work! I'm going to stick around! Much love from an Aussie in Germany
OMG this made my day.. laughing at work lol
I'm REALLY glad you enjoyed it!
It's the first video in which I've dropped all premise of anything else and just gone straight for humour, so if it isn't funny then it's a total flop (unlike reviews etc. in which I have made jokes in passing), so I was quite nervous about this one.
