That's the way you can manage the amount of gain, just like Brian May does. I don't know the rig he's using but with pure valve amps you have to do it this way.
Why you have to do a bad cover on top of the music when you can practice by yourself and then register your session in a good quality? This is only a confusing mess of sound...

It’s just a standard recording, not for studio quality. The execution and the sound quality is quite honorable in my opinion
