Now though I do look fondly on it. What a time to be alive. All the rumors and myths about it being a god pokemon was just incredible to live through. We'll never have anything like that again, and that is why I love it so much now. The nostalgia hits hard everytime I watch videos on glitches in pokemon games.
I used to do two things with this glitch: 1. If you surf Cinnabar coast after leaving Safari Zone, you encounter Safari pokemon with no ball restrictions. 2. Missingno can learn Cut and Fly. If you level up Missingno, it evolves to Kangaskhan, which can learn Surf and Strength. No other pokemon can learn all four (useful) HMs.

I actually took MissingNo more negatively than that, just because I found it so unsettling. I still used it for free masterballs and rare candies, but I never found it comforting. I never tried catching it because I wanted to get away asap. I found it even more unsettling when I'd run into it in the Gameboy tower on Stadium since it showed it saving the game as you encounter it. I more or less thought of it as a corruption of a mostly happy fantasy, but I used it as if it were black magic to get ill gotten power or Pokemon junk food (rare Candies, literally)
I rememeber I turned my gameboy off when I tried the glitch and missingno appeared. I realised missingno meant missing number and turned the game boy off in a panic 😂
Just so everyone knows, Missingno is HARMLESS To game data and the corrupted sprites can be fixed by viewing a Pokedex entry of a normal (Non-glitch) Pokemon like Bulbasaur. Also, Missingno is the remnants of 39 cut Pokemon that were scrapped from the Gen 1 beta versions, including a shark pokemon called Jaggu which I love. 9 of the Missingno have valid, unique cries. Helix Chamber, a Pokemon beta archival site, has been given a dump of the back sprites of the cut Pokemon as well as various other beta assets from Red/Green. Take a look if you want, it's really cool! Thumb this so Treesicle can see it!
You can also encounter Missingno on the East Bank at Seafoam Island and "safely" catch it without corrupting your game. Another glitch that would be comparable to Silent Hill, would be the Glitch City... glitch. It involves the Old Man/Missingo glitch, along with the Safari Zone. When you activate it, you end up in a area that should never have existed. If you don't have a Pokemon that knows fly, you are trapped there.
Always loved the sprite, it looks like there is one single eye on the high right and you can almost see a distorted face from there, I loved it since I was a kid.
Imagine the havoc made by trading missingno to an unsuspecting victim Then they trade it to get rid of it then the next person does it and then it happens over and over again till everyone has a corrupted game.
If we got technical, the reason you beat your level 100 neighbour was probably because your Pokemon had significantly increased EVs while only using Rare Candies doesn’t have the same effect. (I have some Smogon Experience lol)
If you caught a pokemon above level 100 you could use rare candies until its level reset to zero. Then you could level it up using additional rare candies to get it to level 100. The thing is it would glitch and it couldn't be knocked out. If you tried to store it the game would crash. However, IF you traded it to Crystal storing it would be just fine. You couldn't heal it a the pokemon center though, or it would become just a regular pokemon.
I never realized how Lovecraftian it was. A being from outside of the sane and rational universe that provides untold rewards for performing of a ritual. Then this being corrupts your data and crashes your game. Awesome...
misinformation off the bat: 6:58 the slots are filled with decreasing probabilities. 1.The earlier slots in wild data are more common and the encounter chances drop quick. It's not a "1/9 chance" 2. Not all 256-151=105 missing indices are missingno. They only occur in the index is unused from 1-190 so 190-151=39 missingnos. index 0 is 'm (a missingno lookalike), leaving 65 glitch pokemon left that are not missingno. 3. your game cannot be corrupted by missingo. Many of the other glitch pokemon can crash your game, and even then, only very rare circumstances cause file deletion. (normal Missingno from pokemon yellow can crash your game [and often does]) The funny thing is the whole reason this works is a different glitch most people don't notice. WHETHER you get an encounter is determined by the bottom-right tile on your character sprite while WHAT you encounter is determined by the bottom-left tile. This is why you can walk through certain grass patches in veridian forest and never get an encounter. The tiles are screwed up. The game thinks you're on WATER when thinking about generating encounters, but the bottom-left tile is shore, which counts as grass considering that the city proper should not have water, so it generates GRASS encounters.
In all seriousness, if I was the owner of Pokémon, after Red n Blue I would have granted MissingNo. its Pokemonship, and made it cannon. Imagine the lore, and stories you could tell with a glitch Pokémon like that.
thats why Kangaskhan is a mother like pokemon without a baby verison missingno is that baby they stopped that idea most of the way through the production of the game and it didnt get deleted right (iyf missingno could be short for missing number)

@@vulcanraven9701 it probably would then rewind to kill him again and again over and over while saying “you did this to me” In a glitched distorted voice
@@razorwolf2758 It'd be the best episode in the entire series.
@@vulcanraven9701 would finally bring some more lore to the Pokémon #000, and ash having lived through dying over and over again would probably give them a reason to keep him in the story, not as a main character but as one none the less
@@razorwolf2758it’s a glitch. It’s not supposed to have lore.
ALIENS ARE REAL GRANT! XD
That killed me XD
Now I'm a ghost too @_@
Excellent editing, guys. 😁👍
I remmeber the 7th thing in your inventory would get a huge item amount boost and weird number texture. Best for rare candies and master balls
I remember summer camp all the kids trying this glitch.. and telling each other since this was real there had to be a way to get Togepi
Watching this video high is the worst thing that's ever happened to me
I actually took MissingNo more negatively than that, just because I found it so unsettling.
Most ghosts that I've encountered were pretty chill tbh! They're just people. Just people who died that's all.
You lost me
My brain during math:....
My brain watching this video: REAL SHIT
Finally another good treesicle video lol i havent cared much about the lastest videos they have been making
I would often get weird trainers in that same place with only missignolike pokemons.
Always loved the sprite, it looks like there is one single eye on the high right and you can almost see a distorted face from there, I loved it since I was a kid.
**ah, so it appears pikapeen is a totally suitable name for its number**
Imagine the havoc made by trading missingno to an unsuspecting victim
Then they trade it to get rid of it then the next person does it and then it happens over and over again till everyone has a corrupted game.
If we got technical, the reason you beat your level 100 neighbour was probably because your Pokemon had significantly increased EVs while only using Rare Candies doesn’t have the same effect. (I have some Smogon Experience lol)
if you caught the weird pokemon while surfing for the dupe they would have really weird move sets that they would normally never have
If you caught a pokemon above level 100 you could use rare candies until its level reset to zero.
Awesome...
And that it can be found by swimming by the sea which also fits the Lovecraftian mythos.
never in my entire life have i seen a 5 minute long intro to a 13 minute long video
I'm glad Grant makes content he wants to make rather than a trend. Wish he would get more support.
if Missingno isn't now refered to as Infamous Oopsie by the end of the week ima be a lil bit sadder than usual.
Did anyone else ever have a run in with Missingno.’s elusive counterpart, [Block] M’ [Chip] ?
Missingo goes beyond metaphysics.
Im watching this with a hangover right now and Grant...all this glitching really tripped me out lol
I enjoy what a guy called Linkara did with it for his show.
misinformation off the bat: 6:58 the slots are filled with decreasing probabilities.
1.The earlier slots in wild data are more common and the encounter chances drop quick. It's not a "1/9 chance"
(normal Missingno from pokemon yellow can crash your game [and often does])
The funny thing is the whole reason this works is a different glitch most people don't notice.
I like the Crypt of the Necrodancer music used.
MISSIGNO IS THE TRUE VILLAIN OF DETECTIVE PIKACHU.
7:06
This is actually me
In all seriousness, if I was the owner of Pokémon, after Red n Blue I would have granted MissingNo. its Pokemonship, and made it cannon. Imagine the lore, and stories you could tell with a glitch Pokémon like that.
i heard that its a missing link between cubone and Kangaskhan
thats why Kangaskhan is a mother like pokemon without a baby verison missingno is that baby they stopped that idea most of the way through the production of the game and it didnt get deleted right (iyf missingno could be short for missing number)
@@shelliblossom8953 what a shitty theory.
Funny how gamefreak played off Missingno Golbat and M and said they were intentional glitches even going so far as to add them into a manga
