Thanks to my sponsor Jim Browder Sr. AKA (DAD)and Work Zone located in Colonial Heights Va. Donny Browder v/s Carloina Thunder best 2 out of 3. Belair driven by Danny G from NC.
LOVE IT!!...Reminds me of the days when I'd watch Don Nicholson, Sox, Beswick, etc...run!!...THOSE were the days...Hey!...Anyone come up with a time machine!...Let me know!!!...(smiles!)...
Man Chevys are so cool why would anybody even think of buying anything else . There the best they've always been the best and they will always be the best.
To Gunslinger: I built a 62 409 drag car in the 60's. To help with your frame question, the trick back in the day was to add a second control arm on the other side of the rear end, a trick the factory racers used. Otherwise, you will tear the single one off. Hope this isn't to late to help you, good luck.
I got a bunch of the Super Chevy Weekend at Atlanta in 08, MR 409 and his son were running each other, sons car was missing, sounded like crap, but MR 409, thats awesome how those things can pull those front wheels, see the body torque !
@mrat455 yes you do a burn out outside the water box..water was drug out farther than normal on that pass..they dont keep but a minimal amount in box usually..but thanks for pointers anyway.
That was a gold school race. The kind I'm use to. Steetable full size cars they (used to) take it to the drags on the weekend and drive it to work during the week. If the #'s match on these 409's they're valuabe cars, that is, if all the numbers match.
I have some questions about your 1962 Chevy Belair. Has anything been done to modify your X frame? I have a 62 Biscayne with a 425hp 454 and a TH350. I am getting ready to swap in a 900hp 555 and TH400 but am afraid the frame won't handle to torque. What do you think/
575cummins, You ar a lucky person. 1962 was the only year Chevy built a Bel Air bubble top. Impala's all had what GM called the "Formal Top" in 1962 and in 1963 the Bel Air was only available in the 2dr/4dr sedan or station wagon model.
I have the red 63 and IM running a 454 small block chevy pump gas. He said is was close to high 400 cubic inch. slightly larger than me when he shifts that thing hes has some MPH. Later
Just an observation; I've noticed a few times, watching videos like this that Chevy Impalas and Belairs more often than others, lift higher on one side on the take offs. I've seen it on other cars, but more often on the big chevys. In this case, the white 62' while the burgundy 63' stayed level. I wonder what the difference is. They both have the X frame.
Go check your displacement according to your bore and stroke you have 166.xx CI of displacement, not 454. 454 is not a small block its a big block, a small block is a 350, 5.3, 289 ect.
the impala made the other care look like a pice of shith during the burnout but the wight car made the impala look a lil slower but it iz 1 bad azz impala
Show me the white 62!!! 0:32 far lane thats where the action is. You got mopped by a super stocker with 10 inch tires AND a 4 speed. Tell me, whats the point of your wheeltubs and funny car burnout.......
Those are two very pissed off Chevys! Love it!
That 62 Bel Air is BAD ASS!!! Can't get enough of that thing.
LOVE IT!!...Reminds me of the days when I'd watch Don Nicholson, Sox, Beswick, etc...run!!...THOSE were the days...Hey!...Anyone come up with a time machine!...Let me know!!!...(smiles!)...
Damn, that '62 is freakin badass.
Twist and shout, baby!
Man Chevys are so cool why would anybody even think of buying anything else . There the best they've always been the best and they will always be the best.
Bore(4.25) X Bore (4.25) X Stroke (4.00) X
Constant (.7854) X Number of cylinders (8)
=453.96 Which is a 454cubic inch Small Block.

I got a bunch of the Super Chevy Weekend at Atlanta in 08, MR 409 and his son were running each other, sons car was missing, sounded like crap, but MR 409, thats awesome how those things can pull those front wheels, see the body torque !

I got my driver's license in a 1964 Impala 409. It was automatic but that car could bury through 120 speedometer real quick.

@pqc3 Funny you say this, it actually has a AIRLIFT brand air bag in the passenger side rear spring.
0:48 1992 Geo Metro (3 cylinder) in green. 40+mpg but I don't recommend them on the beaches of Oregon...Red lined at 1st just to get it off the sand.

'63 coulda had a art morrison perimeter frame, I believe they still make those, expensive as they may be though.
I built the frame and I built it right .3x2 box frame runs straight every time.
