May I just say, Joanie, you are so incredibly generous with your knowledge, and such a bloody downright competent teacher to boot. It's a joy to watch and learn from someone so skilled and able to impart knowledge, I really get so much out of your teaching...evidenced by my The Bite Shot RUclips Wormhole that I've been travelling down for days! Thanks a million from Sydney Australia!
OH MY GOSH!! YES!! Thank you soooo much for teaching us how to do this!! I keep having this situation with cigar smokers at weddings and I have yet to conquer it - almost the same type of situation. Hoping this helps me!
I might try this just for fun, I wonder if a Baster with some plastic tubing might work that way you can control the amount of liquid and not disturb the carefully place food items.
I don't shoot food but saw your vid. As I listened I wondered if placing a sliver of burning incense behind or under the food would give a more consistent, reliable, longer lasting, denser appearance of steam.
Good question! I didn't want a lot of light on the surface, I just wanted it to mainly hit the steam and the dumplings, so that tilt helped to direct it the way I wanted it to go.
Hi I have a question ⁉️. Love your video by the way. I have a shoot in restaurant soon and it's for a school project. Now did you combine 2 images one shot of the steam coming off the cotton balls and the dumpling? I did you place the cotton balls underneath the dumplings?
Love your channel. Quick question, can you give a link to where I can purchase the White folding Bounce Card you used in "5 Flat Lay Lighting Tips for Food Photography". Simple but it looks like it works great and would have many uses. Thanks in advance.
@@TheBiteShot ehhhh.... all smoke and mirrors. And steam and backgrounds too. HAA Always great content, Joanie. Maybe you should’ve done this with “bacon” steaming in a pan. You know, shakin’..... bacon...?? 🥓

Love this tutorial thank you!
This is genius!! Thank you Joanie!!💞💞💞
Great tutorial-thank you!
Any reason for the light to tilt up? Does it have to do with the angle of your camera?
Good question! I didn't want a lot of light on the surface, I just wanted it to mainly hit the steam and the dumplings, so that tilt helped to direct it the way I wanted it to go.
A Very Elusive Shot Indeed
i think it would help if you could explain the topic in quick time as compared to beating around the bush...
This is amazing and I love the trick!

“This week on Getting Steamy with Joanie...”
I miss you! Eu estava com saudades! Que bom te ver nas minhas atualizações.
For me, its easier to do it in post, can control the steam as i want...
The content is very good but you don't need so much time to explain.
Thank you
Steamy.
Horribly Boring 😴 and unnecessary talking
or u just using photoshop brush find steam brush and tada ... finish in a few seconds, Master :D
Talk so much but lack demonstration!
This is nonsense. You're not capturing steam, you're adding it in post.
What bull talking
