      My sti has caused me way too much stress with doing the tgv deletes for the first time so close to my tune date.... only to have my 1 fuel line from cobb be defective(the fitting was cracked), and miss my tune date... needless to say though Cobbs's customer support was effortless, quick, and super friendly. 100/10 would recommend. Can't beat a ~38-40mpg avg though. 😂

  • @Holtenstein

    I think you found the ticking too. Pretty sure it was from the machining job. They just overlooked that area. Maybe you mentioned it but I assume you're replacing the cam oil seals too. Are you replacing the tensioner? The Subaru Factory manual has a pretty intense process for recompressing the tensioner. Seems like a pain in the butt if you follow those steps

    Rabbit hole indeed! I can't imagine the "burrs" on the cam journal being the culprit... if the buckets are moving that far up during operation, wouldn't they also be hitting the cam bearing itself? Either way, hope u got it. Would definitely love to see a 400whp daily! 🤙

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  3 года назад

      Without having the cam on the journal to see how far they're going I can't tell, but hoping that was a contributing issue to thr noise 😅🙏

    • @erics6088
      @erics6088 3 года назад

      @@Smeedia you've looked at the inside of the valve covers, right? I've heard the stock cams are kinda tight in there, so a taller lobe can possibly touch. Maybe even a casting defect or something that is just close enough to touch. Worth a look unless u already have it back in for the next video LMAO

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  3 года назад

      The heads and covers were machined to clear them so they shouldn't be hitting. I think it may have been the back of that bucket

      Mine. Too. Especially if it’s going to be your daily, have it a bit more of a sleeper.. always fun to watch people think they’re messing with a mostly factory STI (or any car for that matter), only to find out it will pull on their much more expensive sports car.
      Been watching your vids since a few months before the move. Been loving everything you do. Keep up the good work. Also in the Seattle area, currently driving an 18 WRX and slowly working on it and adding to it. But my priority is the car I will be inheriting from my dad, a 74 Datsun 260z. Hoping to someday to put an L28ET in it, but we have some other things that are taking a higher priority (suspension, chassis stiffening, interior, brakes etc.) because the car runs just fine. We just want a bit more power.

    Thinking about the 0.001 clearance. Wouldn't you suspect something caused that clearance to decrease? Like a valve seat wearing excessively or something under the bucket taking up space? I would check for a valve leak since you know that valve has been running way hot due to the lack of clearance. Just my two cents.
