well she did, on the 16th of march 1941, whilst she was collecting survivors from a ship she had just sunk, they saw a shape on the horizon, unfortunately for them said shape was the HMS Rodney running in a full speed, gneisenau was stopped, but quickly put at full speed merely managing to getting away before Rodney could open fire.
That is the Scharnhorst, Gneisenau's sister ship. Gneisenau had her mainmast sited on the funnel. Nelson class BB. : 9 - 16" guns / speed 23 kts. Scharnhorst class BB. : 9 - 11" guns / speed 31.5 kts. In the real world the German captain would simply say - " We will not win this fight, reverse course and ring up full speed." Discretion is sometimes the better choice over valor.
My great granda served on the Nelson class HMS Rodney during ww2, he died 25 years before I was born, I'd love to have known what his time in the navy was like during the war.
All during WW II kriegsmarine ships had standing orders to avoid fighting the RN...unless they greatly exceeded the capacity of the Royal Navy ship. Gneisenau had the speed....would have turned heel and run away
I got the same engagement but instead Gneisenau got accompanied by Scharnhorst and Lutzow which is good and also it was Gneisenau who sunk the Nelson in my engagement
This is so ridiculous. HMS Nelson completely outgunned Gneisenau with her 16" guns, and would have sunk the pocket battleship before Gneisenau ever moved into range to fire her guns. A real battle was HMS Duke of York with 14" guns badly damaging Scharnhorst before she was ultimately sunk by the rest of the British squadron.
Sounds like a budgie was in the background! There was nearly a engagement between the Rodney and the gneisenu in early 1941. The German ship slipped away using her superior speed.
How about the DKM Gneisenau vs the USS Washington. I only wished that the USS Wisconsin could have been featured here. Then there would be no way for that Kraut ship to run away since the Wisconsin’s speed would be more of a match for her.
While its true the Nelson would have mauled the Gneisenau, and that the German ship would have instead used her speed to get the heck out of Dodge... The first few minutes of this don't give the Gneisenau any hits while Nelson gets the range quickly. Knowing that Scharnhorst shares the record for longest battleship hit with HMS Warspite, I doubt the German gunners would have missed on so many salvos before finally connecting with their target. While they only had optical rangefinders, they were of excellent quality and capability.
Yeap.
I am intrigued by these games, or at least the few I have seen where the action has no bearing on reality. Basically two ships maintain steady courses and speeds and if necessary reverse them and fire at each other. That is NOT ship to ship gunnery combat. In this particular case, Gneisenau would have evaded contact and IF it occurred NELSON would have stood off well out of Gneisenau's gunnery range. Gneisenau if forced into action would seek to rapidly close the range while making drastic alterations of course and speed, and also try to use torpedoes. And poor shooting here by the Germans who had far superior optics and ranging devices in reality. My question is, are there limitations in the software including individual ship programming that prevents a more accurate and realistic representation. That aside they are interesting to watch.
Scharnhorst went down at the North Cape through the battering the Royal Navy unleashed on her. As she went down, on final blast came from a turret as the screws, still turning, came above the water.
If Gneisenau had ever encountered Nelson she would have turned tail made smoke and skidadled over the horizon faster than the speed of sound.....
May be she was already slowed down by a torpedo hit :)

Don't mess with an angry oil tanker.

This game uses the same model for all ships in their respective classes.

Shouldn't the guns aim at an area slightly ahead of the target, rather than the target itself?
I got the same engagement but instead Gneisenau got accompanied by Scharnhorst and Lutzow which is good and also it was Gneisenau who sunk the Nelson in my engagement
didn't realise this was a cartoon
thanks for the vid anyway you can upgrade the recording quality?

It's just a game man on other occasions I have played with the Gneisenau I have been able to sink HMS Nelson without problems
@@akula_9784 Depends whether you want REALISM or wish fulfilment. Good video, otherwise

One realistic matter. This is pretty much what happened to Scharnhorst.

This game does that randomly. I’ve been on both ends of that.

16 inch v 11 inch - no contest.

Why not just send us smoke signals?
bairdrew. yes the smoke is a shield in this game
how did you get the whole game complete ??
I downloaded it by aptoide it is complete and with a mod. To download the Game You must install aptoide firts
Actually Rodney, Nelson did not carry an aircraft.
In this game all of the ships in a class are identical to each other. Even if they were different in real life.
you every play the Gneisenau's is not helping themselves 6 x 11 inc v 9 x 16 inc they need to the old fashion broadside to broadside
Gneisenau hatte Torpedos, wieso wurden sie nicht benutzt?
This game is wrong German ships don't sink, the get scuttled by their own crews
