I loved Power trains! My best childhood memory is seeing them on their own dedicated shelf at target & soon getting my first set for Christmas ^^ Sucks that Powertrains 2.0 dropped the ball mid 2021 I've actually collected Powertrains 2.0, but I sold my entire collection off to a friend to make space.
I remember I had a few of these sets as a kid. They definitely helped fill my need for a model train set that I obviously couldn’t afford as a kid Also, for 3:42, the German ICE 1 kind of has a dome car. The cafe car has a bump out on the roof with small windows
core memory unlocked. god I loved these as a kid. I only ever had the figure 8 set that came with the bullet train locomotive, the industrial freight pack, military car pack, and the circus steam locomotive.
I remember my time with Power Trains. I had a diesel with a 2-track Railroad Crossing and a cool looking bullet train. The diesel looked exactly like the one at 1:40
As someone who grew up with these, I am lucky to still have them today. It put a lot more enthusiasm into my train hobby, and left me satisfied whenever I played. Fly high power trains. Everyone say it with me: POWER TRAINS! CONNECT, COLLECT, AND EXPAND!
PowerTrains Coming!! (wow) A new line of realistic motorized trains! You control the action and direction! (AUTO-LOADER CITY) Build your PowerTrains World even bigger! COLLECT CONNECT EXPAND! PowerTrains!
I was spoiled with HO scale from age 3, but I remember PowerTrains very well when I visited family members who had them. I also was a big fan of GeoTrax.
I actually still have mine, but I've passed them down to my little sister who shares that same obsession with me and that being trains. this makes me happy that someone acknowledges these Nostalgic trains, thank you.
I feel mildly qualified to talk about this, but the "Power Train World" toys are somewhat licensed, I usually work with companies that replicate toys like that, and from what I understand Jakks Pacific sold the MOLDS to a third party, that then sold them to the company that makes them. Alot of the original molds were lost when a company manufacturing plant was involved in a fire, thus why the company only made the original series 1 pack
I still remember the day I got my first set, the passenger station starter set. I still have a giant bin of the sets I collected over years that followed. I also got both of the Power City sets mentioned at 9:40, and have some thoughts to share. The system was okay, but the manufacturing tolerances just weren't completely there. I don't think I ever actually got the bridge working properly, it was quite finicky I think the track alignment at the drawbridge was quite tricky to get right. I think it was with these sets that they changed something in the manufacturing process of the track, because it had a slightly different color, and most notably, didn't fit as well with older track. As you mentioned, the creative process of the system meshed perfectly with the railroad, and even after I "graduated" to HO scale, I still used the parts to create tunnels, inclines, and overpasses for my little floor layout. Amazing video, perhaps at some point I'll take that big bin out of storage and relive some good memories.
power trains was one of my favorite toys when I was young and I was so excited for powertrains 2.0 since they looked more realistic and more unique cars and was looking forward to seeing all the new locomotives
I remember having these as a kid. They brought many hours of fun and I wish I was able to get more into the line besides the few that I had. Very underrated toy train line that I wish would make a return one day!
Good to remind, I remember as a kid, I used to buy one of the PowerTrains train sets from Toys-R-Us. And at first it was a nostalgic thing to have, eventually, I don’t usually have those to this day. While I did get the 2.0 PowerTrains sets, does it looks great, sometimes but yes. I mean I wish it could better if they making more styles, more idk, based of the original ones as it before.
When I was about 11 or 12 years old, I ended up purchasing a Power Trains set from Toys R Us. I ended up getting the "Log Loader Express", and it was, honestly, a decently enjoyable little set. I wish I could've gotten my hands on the steam locomotive, but ultimately, I never did. Honestly, Power Trains reminds me a lot of Fisher Price's old GeoTrax line, though intended for an older audience. Honestly, I'd love to see something like Power Trains show up again. It's become more and more difficult to find a good train toy that's semi-realistic, while also still being of a decent price range.
These toy trains were so goated. I’ve collected as much as them as I possibly could. Such a shame we don’t have anything like this in the toy train industry anymore. Nowadays it seems that the likes of wooden railway and generic battery operated trains are all you could find outside the Model Railroad market. Not to mention the occasional small wave of Lego Trains.
Damn I remember these! I think I still have a couple in some of the boxes of hot wheels that are packed away in my garage. These we're definitely my introduction to Model railroading as after these I got my first N-Scale Set.
I cant believe it took me until you showed the Pacific Express caboose that I realized I had those things! That was long before I even truly got into trains, I wonder if I still have any little pieces laying around somewhere!
I remembered that first time I got power trains back in 2013 and I have all my power trains still stored away packed in a storage shed I had so many good times with these
I remember these! I still have some actually and a light up railroad crossing too. I even have a suspension drawbridge that connects them. But I wanted so many of these
This really brings me back to the early 2010s, as I amassed a huge collection of original Power Trains locomotives, cars, track, and buildings. I also collected a few 2.0 locomotives, cars, and sets, but I did not collect anywhere near as many as the original Power Trains line. Still, I think the Jakks Pacific Power Trains line is one of the greatest toy train lines ever produced (aside from Tomy Plarail, Trackmaster, Wooden Railway, etc.).
If you ever get around to it, I had XTS Expandable Train System when I was younger. Neat little sets all with track stuck on puzzle piece like tiles. I had enough to have a multi floor layout, which was awesome.
Ive got an entire box of the first generation stuff. INCLUDING that mega drawbridge that I swear I couldnt figure out how to build... probably why it got sh*tcanned so quick. You can stop the engines locking up by taking out the batteries and they would freewheel. I DOUBLED that car limit. I remember so much from my childhood in this. I remember THREE grade crossing sets, therefore I remember using a grand lashup of 3 of the red freight diesels on one train. MAN I miss that.
I remember when i was like 5 I got a power trains set that had the working crossing lights but the crossings got destroyed due to being in a box for 5 years and when I tried to find the set on eBay I was unable to find it for sale this video give a nostalgic vibe
I had some PowerTrains! I also had their corresponding building toy, which I forgot the name, but it did have an awesome bridge set that was designed to work with Powertrains track!
I remember seeing the 1.0 sets and extensions a lot at Targets. That said, I never knew about the 2.0 line until now! I remember seeing the 1.0 stuff and thinking it was pretty darn nice and good way to get kids into model trains!
The nostalgia of PowerTrains goes insane. I remember being absolutely obsessed with them and having a pretty decent sized roster. Glad I still have them hanging around somewhere. I even have that Batman freight set for some reason
I remember owning all of the debut PowerTrains available in Europe, I still have most if not all of them and had a layout that I eventually converted into an H0 layout, it was a really fun system and honestly, it reminds me of the old Lionel and TYCO sets which had playability included onto them, I've never been convinced by the newer PowerTrains 2.0 however, felt unnecessary.
I had these when I was 4 maybe I did the one thing that the manufacturer warned in the box Do not run it on carpets And that’s what I did Run it on a carpet I had the PTW locomotive I liked it as it was orange But it stopped because the gears were covered with hair and carpet fragments
I miss this range. I remember when I was younger on Christmas Day I got the steam locomotive and bullet train and a set and the only thing I have left is some track the bullet train and the steam locomotive tender.
I never had the chance to play with these, but I always did find them to be kind of interesting every time I saw them on the shelf at Target. A missed opportunity, I suppose, even if merely seeing them kept the spark lit.
I had the auto loader and the suspension bridge set. I remember that suspension bridge being a major pain and very frustrating to build more then actually playing with it lol .
Back before they shut down I bought a good lot of PowerTrains 2.0 at target! I really loved playing with them and I liked the variety. The original PowerTrains definitely looks much better though, switch track and locomotives and all lol. I wish they didn’t go out of business. They had a good thing going :(
for some reason, I remember a time when I took a 2.0 locomotive shell and shoving a bachmann gp40 chassis (old tooling) into the shell to make it a n scale runner
I remember when I was younger at target they sold s lot of power trains I’d always get a 4 pack of cars every time I went or the loco packs. I had a pretty big collection of them and at least 4 sets. sad to see them gone now
will you talk about the train sets hot wheels made? there are surprisingly a few attempts at making trains for the hot wheels line. There was the Hotline, which was a hot wheels style train line with different cars but only 4 set were ever made. There was also the Hot Wheels Railroad, which was a more typical toy train line with all push along models. and then there was the Rapid Transit trains which were essentially hot wheels cars that can link together. Rapid Transit is my personal favorite line.
I miss the old Hotwheels 1980s sto and go freight yard set and the Amtrak set with pipes dump car and Amtrak mail car. Power trains reminded me of them. Power trains felt like a good quality knock off of the 80s hotwheels train toy sets.😊

I often wish I could find that old video from so long ago to recapture some of that simpler time.

I believe both the Old and the new power trains are compatible with each other as both locomotives and Rolling Stock from both lines fit on the old track
