In the original plotline he dies in a border fight after blue fur becomes leader so he would survive and be the leader with blue fur as his deputy. The two cats had formed a friendship. You missed something: Whitestorm wouldn't have died. Whitestorm died during the battle with BloodClan ,killed by their warriors. If Tigerstar wasn't evil,BloodClan wouldnt have come to the forest,and would never have been able to kill Whitestorm. Also,another thing is Scourge (may) have never became evil because he became evil to prove he wasnt weak after his encounter with Tigerpaw,who almost killed him. I also doubt WindClan wouldve starved because Greystripe went too. Considering Ravenpaw never had to leave,Bluestar could easily have sent two other cats,like Greystripe and Ravenpaw.
