Those of us curious about the Maps and regional divisions : Let me take you back to 1960 through 1963: In the North : We had the Northern region with the capital Kaduna. In the south: Western region with capital Ibadan, While Lagos was the seat of power. Midwestern region with Benin City as the capital while Eastern Region with the capital Enugu. From 1967 through 1976: Eastern Region(in the South) had 3 divisions: East Central, Rivers and Cross River. Between 1976 through September 1987, there were only four states in the South " Eastern Region": The East Central was divided into Anambra and Imo. So we had: Rivers, Anambra, Imo and Cross River. In later years, Bendel(Midwest) was divided into Edo and Delta states. Back to the Eastern Region: Bayelsa was carved out from the then Rivers and we have Bayelsa and Rivers state. Abia State was carved out from Imo and later Ebonyi State was carved out from Abia State. So we have Imo State, Abia State and Later Ebonyi State. Enugu was carved out of Anambra, so we Have Anambra State and Enugu State. Akwa-Ibom was carved out of Cross River. So we have Akwa-Ibom State and Cross River State. Like I stated earlier: Go through your maps.

I was very disappointed with mansions in America.
Only very few people live in concrete mansions, and most others live in a glorified wooden house.
I used to wonder how a simple fire would consume a whole community, but later, I realized that the community was built with beautiful planks.

@@qinspride5795While all the regions are political, it's not right to just assume that people of the South-South should belong to the South-East. Have you considered what people of the South-South want? The last time i checked, people of the South-South are very happy and content to have a region of their own and they actually lobbied and fought for it. So i wonder how people who are not from the region just believe they can decide where a people should belong. The same way the South-East would not want to be joined together with the South-West, why should should South - South not have their own separate region? There are many other factors to consider, besides contiguous land mass, when deciding regional divide One last thing, it's not true that all the South-South states are not connected. On the contrary, the are all connected by land and most by water. From Cross River you get to Akwa Ibom, to River to Bayelsa . From River you get to Delta and from Delta to Edo all by land.

Qinspride, you also need to be educated on why we have South-South and South-East as separate regions. It is political and historical. Most of the minorities in the present SS has over the years have cried of marginalization from the ES, when they were all together, hence the separation into states and now into geo-political zones.

@@anikaraatamunotoru7110 Placing them together into a separate region enhanced their weaknesses not their strengths, what's the positive impact? Infact it made them vulnerable to political vultures at the federal level who're there for their own gain. Placing a group of people with nothing in common together is a political move to keep them grounded. What's happening now?, they're still highly agitated of being marginalized even after 26 years of the creation of the south south Region (1997). It's even worse now than before 1997. Look at the northerners, their strengths lies in their bond. If the creation of a new region for them was the solution, then there should not still be agitations. A Deltan being appointed in the federal house doesn't wash off the agitations of the Rivers politicians of being left out yet they're from the same region. To me it's purely political and the agitations and petitions made by few politicians for their own self centered gain. Well, they got it and it's been enriching them for more than 2 decades.

I totally disagree with you. I am an Ijaw, not an Igbo person. If you were born before the civil war, lived in the East you might appreciate what I am talking. We were marginalized to the extent that it was sometimes hard to get admission into an Igbo school, because you were told your name does not have a meaning. It happened to some people from the riverine area. You must speak Igbo to be accepted. There was discrimination. When States were created, most of us had scholarship to go to school, which couldn't have been if we were with the East. We developed at our pace without being discriminated against. The zoning of SS, SE, NW, NC, NE or SW is only for political expression. The unit of development is the state, and we are happy with that. We don't want to be swallowed by any of the big tribes.

@@anikaraatamunotoru7110 Hello brother, I believe the grievances though mostly a city issue wasn't solved by the creation of region but by the creation of states. I may not know the part of Ijaw you're from cos the Ijaws are in different states( Bayelsa, Rivers, Edo, Delta, Akwa-Ibom and even in The core west of Ondo)... However from your typing, Its safer to assume you're of Bayelsa. Bayelsa before now was formerly under Rivers and nothing Changed...Rivers is still part of South South. Except you crossed the threshold of your state to get education in the core Igbo Land in Anambra or Imo then. If you were marginalized in Rivers, nothing changed in terms of the zoning, you're still same, however, I believe the major grievances were addressed by the creation of states which is typical and I didn't mention states. If you go to Delta, 8 out of the 25 Local government are of the Igbo Origin(Delta Igbos), so what happens to them?, About 6 local government out of 23 in Rivers are purely of Igbo Origins what happened to them? There tribe isn't a minority yet grouped in the region because they fell into the states. Let's not be personal about this things, you may not even know where am coming from. If it's for state creation, I may agree to an extent but still political.

@@qinspride5795 we have our map as niger delta, and as Edo people we also have our map as well, as it is called now, you truly understand it, but before Nigeria was created do you know that the bini/edos was already a Republic of it own, and zafara as well,
When did they created Nigeria here? The oldest tribes in that Nigeria are the binis/edos and Hausa, for the bini empire stretch down to benin republic and some other part of west Africa, till date the Ga tribe in Ghana migrated from Benin, the British came with others out of envy,
We should start from there, Midwestern region the Benin city was the capital, then, the university of Benin was called Midwest institute, in 1991 Bendel state (Benin delta) was divided into two Edo(because political selfishness) State was named after Edo/Benin people because they are the majority there, with other edoid languages,
Ikwere, urhobo eka so many other tribes there were all part of the bini empire then, the British fulanis politically calved other ethnics group into one region and called it south west, yoruba only have one state(oyo) that's till date
Fulani called them their wives, because they always used them to against the south, anyway the history is there, before Nigeria was created we know we the edos already had a well structured system of government,
We were doing well, if other tribes claiming they are this and that were strong as the bini/Edo people then, I don't think the British and their western nations who came and used some of these people to fight the Edo/binis then, would have succeeded, it was when they finally conquered the binis Nigeria was created problem started,
Most of the things they are using till date they stole from the binis empire then, street lights road network and other things were stolen from them, well nigeria is a scam, the yoruba and Hausa/fulanis are the problem of Nigeria.
