Americans have mandated that the Trump Administration secure its borders and that citizens be prioritized over illegal aliens and subsidizing foreign country militaries/economies. Tariffs is only one of many methods that will be implemented to accomplish this. The Canadian and Mexican economies will suffer greatly because of the failure of their leaders to tighten boarder security with the United States. These tariffs will be very successful in achieving this mandate.

The issue with the tariffs is it is general tariffs not targeted and not combined with subsidies for industries that are currently not competitive. As a result it will only increase costs and hinder economic growth in sectors that rely on foreign imports.
Let alone retaliatory tariffs will harm American exports causing a demand drop.
If the tariffs become long term then the income made off of it will be negated as trade reorganises to avoid the markets where tariffs exist, thus reducing the revenue. In which case the plan to rely on tariff income to lower taxes will become impossible
tariffs are not inherently bad, but the way Trump has gone about it is idiotic. Let alone the fact this could completely disrupt the bond market.

It's nice seeing how people don't understand how tarries actually work. The tarriffs are designed to force growth of DOMESTIC production so there isn't a need for forigen goods. This is also being combined with reducing the OVERTAXATION of US citizens meaning they have more free money to purchase goods. Most companies will EAT those tariffs and make up for it in bulk from US consumers. Countires that introduce tariffs and DON'T do anything to relieve domestic tax burden defeat the purpose of tariffs.
