Basically because it is heavier than the rest of the 29s, and WT has nerfed the flight model several times to the point where one of the supposedly most agile planes of that period flies worse than predecessors. Its good good weapons! But less than the su-27, so there's really no reason to grab it over the su-27. Personally, I love it. It is my favourite DCS plane even with quirks such as being unable to deploy the airbreak if you have a fuel can or the gear down.
There is no mig 29SMT in dcs. Only 9-12 and 9-13 variants.

Umm just a slight correction. The mig 29 SMT entered service in 2009 and at that time it was nowhere near the most agile planes. Almost every upgraded jet in service had better performance including russian ones. Another thing is that the SMT upgrade never aimed at improving its aerodynamic performance but aimed at improving the avionics and things like fuel capacity and payload so as to make it more versatile. @@kunaukedi4850That is true, but the 9.12 and 9.13 airframes in game aren’t very great when compared to other top tiers. The SMT is a heavier modernized version so it suffers even more.
@@kunaukedi4850 it doesn't matter in lolthunder. basically it's bomber then but it's still worse than F-16C which has both A2A and A2G capabilities.
For air battle : It's turn time bro and heavier and not looking cool like Mig-29 9-13 ...su-27 way better turn have more missiles and cool looking than this
Yeah people only cares about dogfights haha, it doesn't matter to them if it has great Fox 1, great Fox 2, great AGM and wonderful RWR.
@@Hunter_i86that RWR makes all the difference. Also the SMT bleeds speed in RB because the instructor pulls as hard as it can. If you control the stick then it’s not a huge problem.

Excellent aircraft - powerful and versatile in all situations.
I prefer it over the other mig 29 variants personally for its higher fuel capacity and flare/ chaff. Not to mention it can carry KH29 & KAB500.

Great if you're flying straight, but it's getting boring soon. Every merge you're handicapped, have 1 chance to throw a R-73, but if the enemy knows to preflare it's over for you

I have used Su-39, then I got MiG-29SMT (really wanted it). I can say that it is like... harder than Su-39. And its "smart" weaponry consists only of FaF rockets and bombs, which isn't always necessary and good. And also MiG feels bigger, at least on a screen. I don't know, I love it, but usually it is hard to use.
Pretty good Multirole fighter for when you need something with more aa capabilities than su-25sm3

For me its the flight performance, one dodge and i go from 1200kmh to 600, and to regain that takes a while, its excellent in good hands but starting with such disadvantage makes it hard to sustain a dogfight with anything really.
With any plane, you must kill the enemy aircraft before the merge. Dogfight is an unwanted result to a failed interception.
This is a new basic model of MiG-29 in Ace Combat 8. 45 years of MiG-29 "Fulcrum" in 2022.
SMT is great and one of my fav jets to play, there are just lots of bad pilots out there and tankies that cant cope with any red jet not over-performing
for ground battles it's very good plane, don't know why people don't like it. I replaced my Mig-27 for CAS with the Mig-29SMT and i love it.

People dislike the SMT because it's counterpart is flying like an UFO. They removed the G-limiter on the f16, forgot about energy retention and the fact the F-16 would go spinning without the limiter, making the f16 able to pull a higher AOA than the Mig29 is able to, and have better low speed handling than the aircraft with the allegedly best low speed handling, when it was built (the 9-12/13). If they made the flight model on the f16 realistic, the SMT would be a prefered aircraft to many. For reference, you can cobra in the f16 in warthunder, but not the mig29.
The first gen MiG-29s are in a stable configuration and cannot technically cobra (every version we have in game for now).
But I get what you mean, the F-16 is unrealistically stable, pulling harder than literally every other top tier aircraft without nearly the same speed bleed.

@@lucasmateus1389 Twitchy =/= unstable, it's extremely responsive, but it doesn't fall into a spin when pulling extreme AOA, which is what the limiter is there for, to prevent a stall spin. On top of that, the F16 is needlessly responsive at low speeds. According to f16 pilot interviews, it supposedly handles extremely sluggish at low speeds.
@@Boris_The_Turtle The SMT, with the modern avionics and flight computer, can supposedly do a cobra, according to the russian pilots. I have yet to see it at an airshow though.

the SMT is not bad but you need to maintain your speed. If you stay at about 900 KPH in a rate fight nothing will be able to keep up with you same with the Flanker. Stay at about 850 - 900 and you'll be fine. I see alot of guys in sim saying they take full fuel in the SMT. Don't. Take 25 min max fuel with the drop tank, drop it before you get in a fight and stop pulling full AOA.

I hated smokeless AAMs so much, Air RB players didn't get affected much by it because of all the player labels and msl arcade diamond marks.
R-60M vs AIM-9L era was better and more fun than R-73 vs AIM-9M era in my opinion.
@@Hunter_i86 Not like grippen unfortunately, ussr tree will never be the top dog anyway but that doesnt mean you can't have fun with. Yes these AIM-9M are OP imo. It's a confirmed kill most of the time, horrendous to face them. I mostly play GRB too. Yep back then you just needed to see the missile, flare a bit and you were safe you can still play at 10.3-11.3 to avoid these new missiles.

It is time to avenge all deaths by smokeless Fox 2s.
For a sim environment, the SMT is definitely a strong pick. But IMO, it's carried by its systems. Its weapons kit is no longer unique, and many have stronger kits. What makes it good is that, for once, Russia has a fighter with equivalent systems to aircraft like the Gripen or the F-16C, providing it the same heightened level of situational awareness. The problems come when you merge with someone who isn't a goof. The plane has allot of thrust, but is also the heaviest of all the Fulcrums. So, you bleed speed much quicker than other Fulcrum models.
I love it because of RWR and Kh-29TD 🚀

I think people hate it because the IRST gives a huge advantage because people don’t really know how to be aware of surroundings (glued to their radar screen)
nerf flight model, lacks laser ground weapons, lacks engine power
compare to F-16C it wasn't as they expected, people wanted the MiG-29K

Of course SMT is good if there is no enemy SPAA or at least SPAA is not hiding in trees or something. Also flies like a brick, imo the worst dogfighter at TT. It's a shame that the only soviet aircraft with R-77 is going to be this...

@@Parched_Leech Well it's not confirmed for this update. I believe Su-27SM and F-15C (or any others which can carry FOX-3) are quite much for now because they carry much more deadly missiles and they haven't even tested out light aircraft with 6 of those. However, knowing gaijin, we might get another powercreep lol

Bro, once you have flown the F-16C, which is the same BR and literally better in every single way.. you will understand why people hate the 29SMT.
Not really "every single way", F-16C doesn't have R-27ER, F-16C doesn't have IRST mode, and Kh-29TD missile is better than Maverick D and G.
