This remains one of my favorite videos - so much I’m rewatching after my recent 2 trips to the $ store after getting inspired 😊. My additions: Turkey baster, shower caddies for carrying around food and tools, shoe boxes/desk organizers for organizing food and bottles so they don’t tip, long slotted spoon for sifting through my sand/ gravel mix in one tank to pull the little gravel rocks up, and salt and pepper shakers for my dried bugs and micro foods for feeding fry numerous times a day. You guys are adorable together ❤️

I love to paint my aquariums black and so far I’ve had no problem reselling them, but your idea 💡 is a pretty good one. Even though I don’t know why anyone would not want to paint the back of their aquarium I realize there are different strokes for different folks. I think I’ll try that alternative for my next tanks. However stacked tanks will still get their bottoms painted.
Because of this post, I just looked at the wrapping paper, but it was really a thicker craft paper, I wasn't paying attention. It had an AWESOME rock pattern. SCORE! Thanks! Easy and cheap! I'm going to get a second tube as backup. It's in the craft isle. It's a lot thicker than wrapping paper, but I would never have thought to look. Thank you so much!
@@itscindylouu9347Hey there, it literally took washing them with hottt water so many times. That coating was sooo hard to get off. It took a couple of hours of rinsing and churning it around inside of a tote. You can try dividing the stones, putting them into pots and boil the stuff off as well. Do it a couple of times and see how they clean up. That may speed up the process.
They may not be tempered though so be careful of sharp edge but a little sand paper to round over the edges helps wear gloves while you sand and support the glass so it don't break that could be hazardous. Guess who knows?. I lay them on my work bench with just a little edge hanging off the bench.
your fish catcher will also work when refilling the tank i got mine from ikea i put holes in the bottom and hang it on the side of the tank when filling it back up its wonderful in not disturbing he substrate on the bottom or disturbing fish when doing water changes. i run my python to it and it fills up through the catcher and doesn't disturb the substrate.
Nice video! I love the painters bucket ideas. I have used Mr. Clean magic eraser for aquariums since they came out, but you need to make sure its just the original without the added soap or cleaning chemicals that they have now.
Those were some great ideas, Joanna! I bought some tiny little Command Hooks (clear ones) to use on the glass lid of my 3.5 gallon nano tank around Christmas time. I also recently bought a kids sand bucket for water changes. But I think I'm gonna try several of your other suggestions, too. Great video...thanks! 👍😃🍄
Clear plastic soap dishes with two large suction cups attached _ and removable_ in back for plants to hang on sides of aquarium glass. Sweet, but you may need to change the suction cups eventually. I do like that they are clear plastic, $1 and from the folk @ The Dollar Tree of course. Sweet place to shop for many of your aquarium needs. Plastic scrubbers 4 or 5 for a dollar. Stack with uplift tube in center for bio filtration D.I.Y.
In the kids summer toys section they have "water squirters" that are basically like a two foot suction tube with an opening that is about a half inch in diameter. It kinda looks like a giant, skinny crayon, but it is essentially a large syringe. The full tube holds a little over a cup of water. These things are perfect for spot sucking debris from all over the tank. They are long and easier than getting out the gravel vac for smaller jobs. You can also reverse the water and blast gunk out of harder spots. I can't live without these things now. I have one at every tank and use them exclusively to do water changes on anything smaller than ten gallons or any bare bottom tanks. They also make shorter ones but I don't find those to be as useful. They also sell cheap butterfly nets that come in handy for all kinds of applications as well.
🤣😂 She nailed it!!! I laughed as soon as I seen ur thumb nail and had too click. My LFS is right NEXT to a dollar tree and that was my first thought when I walked in there. "What can I use for my tanks?" This video was my weekly LFS routine visit 😂
I really enjoy your Monday videos and this may be my favorite so far! I love to find amazing dollar tree things and I actually use some of the things you suggested for my aquariums. You guys are great, have a wonderful day!
@@mrsprimetimeaquatics5497 just use one of those big soup pots ! They're such pretty river stones too, it's worth the extra step. And with the goldfish, it was a good size because they dont fit in their mouths.
This is Great! I have bought a couple of items for my fin babies as well from Dollar Tree. I got the mini aquarium glass globe looking containers, a bucket that will be used only for disinfecting nets and such and the beach pails as well to use with the few 2.5 tanks I have. The glass containers will be used to make infusoria for future fry food. Great ideas here especially the picture frames which I will get tomorrow and make custom lids.
I have been using most of the suggested items for years- love Dollar Tree. I have used glass as tank covers, it is very thin and easily breaks (like when my cat jumped on it LOL), but sometimes they have plexiglass frames that hold up well on top of a smaller tank. Here are some more ideas: Epsom salt for baths (obviously not the scented), big butterfly nets for catching fish (I even found one with a telescope handle), tealight warmers as Betta hides (be careful with the holes so the fish don't get stuck), and silk plants as tank decorations if you can't use real plants (you can even pull out the wire to make them more flexible). And yes, all for a dollar each!!!
Great video! Wonderful suggestions! I just love when you 2 are together in videos 😁 you are so funny! I bet it would be fun to hang out and drink coffee (insert drink of choice here) and chat about fish.😍
Loved the video Joanna, I routinely go to the Dollar Tree for a bunch of hobby related things. Last thing I bought was plastic organizers with holes on the side to hold the media on my sump. It makes it super easy to get it out and clean it when I need to and it doesn't restrict the water flow. They also have scrubbies that are 4 for a dollar if you want to make an inexpensive trickle filter.
Excellent tips on the items. I am always looking for scissors in the fish-room. Purchased a few in our local store (Dollar General); they come in different sizes to help in either large or smaller jobs. I use fine poly filter pads that come in sheets. Scissors come in handy to cut them down into custom fit sizes for my HOB's. Good video. 📺👍😎
You guys are awesome! Love your interactions and different personalities lol Also, you guys gave me life every time you said betta correctly!! Love this channel
I like the glass cover as long as it's not too thin for a large expanse. I use 1/8 glass from the glass shop to span my 20 long. I tried plastic then learned that the water side would actually absorb water and expand on the wet side only making it curve upwards. Great video. Thanks.
Yes.. the dollar tree. So many memories of myself making diy filters with the sponges and body scrubs they have. But the rocks and sand were the ones i bought a lot. Cant beat the price.👍✌️🙏
I use the 1foot long tongs. Helpful for grabbing stuff off of the bottom, etc. They will rust, so keep them dry. Or rubber paint them. (Home Depo has rubber paint!)
Great video! Grabbed some salt from the home improvement store, now I can go get some buckets from the dollar store. Though I use a 50/50 white vinegar/water solution to clean the glass on my fish tanks. Costs me about .12 cents for each spray bottle of 30 oz. I like that I don't have to worry about over spray hurting the fish or wondering if the guys remembered to spray the rag not the tank, etc. It's pretty basic. (LOL!) Though I couldn't help but notice Joanna is wearing a PTA shirt with glitter on it. Didn't see that shirt in your merch store the other day....just saying....I bet on a black shirt it would really pop...or even on a steel gray.... ;)

To be fair, not all “dollar stores” are lierally such.
Dollar general for instance.
