76 years ago, (1943), I made a raffia basket like in this excellent tutorial. It was a project in my 4th grade art class and mine was the best in the class. Mom used it for her rings and, when she died at age 94 I reclaimed the basket for my rings. I had fond memories of making that basket and recently I made another. But not having raffia at hand I substituted 550 paracord for the base and 450 paracord for the side wall. I garnished the basket with silver thread and silver beads. The result, a lovely basket big enough for my reading glasses, lip balm, pocket knife. 9mm Beretta Nano, and cigarette lighter. Sadly, I have no grand children to inherit this hardy basket. My own children consider it a product of an inmate in a facility for the insane. But I digress, aye. [I do yet live in my own home where I made the paracord basket with fids instead of a needle.]
Yes indeed. Thank you for sharing with your amazing memory of your first Rafia project as well as your basket. And many thanks for Craftiosity for your very well explained tutorial for this Rafia basket..it gives me such an energy to try one myself. Have lovely day everyone.
Did it! Haven’t done anything like this before and am inspired to keep going. Couldn’t find a face to face class and it actually turned into a usable bowl. Delighted. Many thanks.
Congratulations, you win!😂 I’ve spent two days looking for a tutorial that gives clear instructions on how to make this baskets and I found it, thank you!
Hi thanks for a wonderful tutorial. Can you make any size basket with this technique? I want to make one with the base the size of a large dinner plate for harvesting herbs. Would just need to figure out how to put a handle on it.
Beautiful!!! I started to make one as soon as I finished watching your video!! Thank you very much for your clear instructions and easy following guidelines. I'll send you a picture when I'm done. 😍
@@Craftiosity It does indeed! I was thinking about how this might be modified to do a library program event but usually programs are 1 hour long so this would need to be a multi week project
I'm very confused at 3:40 When you start to explain going upwards... the stitch doesn't look different to me, but from how you're explaining it I'm assuming there is a change? Help 😂
Hey Alison, when you wind your ‘outer’ raffia around the inner bundle to make the coils, keep the outer piece flat to get a smooth effect. I hope that helps!
We included 2 hanks of x natural raffia, 1 hank of x pistachio and 1 x hank of lilac from Nutscene. You can find them here: nutscene.com/products/nutscene-raffia?variant=40666803279

Great tutorial!
Thanks Ana! :)
Great instructions
I’m using a 3-4 mm macrame rope for the inside as I couldn’t find that type of raffia and mine looks so much worse 🙈 but it’s still very addictive 😁
It's very satisfying isn't it! :)
@@Craftiosity it really is! :D and a couple of rows in it´s starting to look much better! thank you for a good tutorial!
@@gabriellaberglund3651 wonderful! You're very welcome! :)
Fantastic! Do you happen to know if dyed raffia is safe for birds?? I'd like to make some cup nests for my finches.
What a lovely idea! We're not sure if the dyed raffia is safe for birds or not we'd recommend you check with the manufacturer. :)
thank you
Naice maidam what is your cantry
gorgeous! Can't wait to try this
If I wanted to make the same thing but large to hang on the wall. It would be the same concept, just more raffia, correct?
Yes that's right. :)
Thank you!
Gracias.
does anyne know what technique this is called? cuz i only know the basic magic circle and blanket stitch one
I know this is an older video, but do you happen to have an estimate for how long this basket would take to make?
It should take no longer than 4 hours. I hope that helps! :)
@@Craftiosity It does indeed! I was thinking about how this might be modified to do a library program event but usually programs are 1 hour long so this would need to be a multi week project
Where can I buy some raffia?! I would love to give that a try!
Hi Kati! Garden centres will often stock it, or google 'raffia hank' and you'll find some options in your country (not sure where you are!) :)
I'm very confused at 3:40

How do you keep the rafia flat?
Hey Alison, when you wind your ‘outer’ raffia around the inner bundle to make the coils, keep the outer piece flat to get a smooth effect. I hope that helps!
How many grams are the raffia bundels? 50 gr?

Where can you buy the raffer
It depends on the country you're in - I'd google search it for your area. Look for 'raffia' :)

Hello! We make each month's craft kit as a limited edition kit, so this one has sadly sold out... Sorry!
You can probably get it from craft shops or maybe florists
E muito bom se escrever no canal do amigo de trabalho.mais melhor e ser retribuído com o mesmo.
Happy crafting! 😊
I use a rope instead of the thing you use at the start of making the bowl.
