12:33 SPIKEEASE Yeah not really a name as such just a co-joining of two words
BUT at 4 THOUSAND dollars (each), one can buy a hell of a lot of simple crowbar tools with a two fingered spike pulling jaw.
And you get a lining tool along with the spike puller plus it is great or starting holes in just about anything, if the crowbar has a spigot (sharpened point) at it's other end.
Thus as an ex railway worker (during the 1970's) I can attest to the simplest tool ever - that of a two fingered crowbar, with a pointed end, nearly 7 ft of high tensile steel.
Way better and lighter to carry around that that awkward battery operated power tool.

I appreciate your insights on the practicality of using simple tools like a crowbar.

@@FruityTech Nah can't pull all, and it certainly wouldn't pull a J spike (An Australian hardwood sleeper spring steel goose neck spike).
Them nasty things needed a veery heavy head, 3 prong afair, to hold the nose of the spike, as it "lifted" the crown of the head, while exerting maximum pressure to draw out, a folded sprung steel J head spike - from dense Australian hardwood sleepers.
Getting them in was a way worse problem though as after using a hand auger to drill a 5/8" pilot hole, these long neck J spikes were gently tapped in with a wee hammer before being pounded in with 8lb sledge hammers.
Hitting them about 10 - 15 degrees forwards of TDC allowed the spring action to insert the shank without the head springing away into the undergrowth 50 yards from the track.
Been there, seen it happen many a time.
We even had an old ganger show the newbies how it was done.
      (Big laugh inserted here)
He always showed them how to WHACKEM in - by holding them from across the head of the rail, with a short length of binder twine / hemp string (from the sacks these came in).
He'd hold the string and get his head as low as possible, then tell the newbie to whack the spike directly on the top.
Spriooong and away they'd go - 20 to 50 ft into the shrub at the side of the track, or either direction along the rail, never stopping at anyone's leg/boot it hit on the way.
No worries eh bro, we all knew the score and ALWAYS stood off the track on the opposite side.
Only the feet, shins and knees of the newbie were at risk.
We had many a newbie unfit to do the work, self-remove themselves from the jobsite, after hitting their own shins/knees or whatever with an errant spke
