Hey I just figured I'd let you know this video actually helped me where roughly 5 hours of searching for answers and watching other video tutorials failed.
So my SNES won't power on and it has nothing to do with ANY of the things mentioned in this video. My problem is with T1. I thought it was with C30 and C31, but it turns out to be T1 (which isn't even labeled on my SVCH-CPU-01 board), it has "RC01" written on it. After searching for quite a while, I found that T1 is a Common Mode Choke and that part number "TDK ZJYS51R5-2P" could be used to fix it. Why is their absolutely NO VIDEOS on RUclips about SNES repair that mention replacing T1? Not ONE!
Great video! Tried every part of testing it like you showed and it all worked fine. Turns out I had the same problem as yourself, just needed a good clean. Cheers.
Just wanna say even if you get continuity on the DC jack make sure you clean it out to make sure its not dirty/corroded. Checked everything on my super famicom and was ready to resort to a full recap but I decided to clean the jack for the heck of it - turns out a dirty power jack was the problem.
Hi, I haven't used my SNES for over 10 years I want to start playing it again, so the problem is I have up graded my new TV and now when I plug in my power plug in and swtich on the tv wont play the game am using HMD1 I have tested all other slots and nothing all connections are in right place does that mean it's broke and would I need to take it apart and find out how to fix it, thanks,
Hello, I'm having a problem with my super nes. I gave it to my brother for a couple of weeks and when I took it back to my house I notice that no game was accepted. I just turned the snes on but there was no signal about the game. the red light turns on as always, but no game works on it. And I tried many many times but no one did. What do you think the problem may be?
@@dreparkermk161 Don't worry. 😅 Better now than never. In fact, I did but there was a problem with the whole system. Later, I bought another SNES. Also I try to keep it clean. Thank you.
Great video. I wasn't able to find the problem. I get no power when switched on. I do have continuity through my fuse and across the switch. Also have continuity on board where the power supply connects. The power supply supplies about 9.6VDC, however once I connect it and then test the points on the board where the power supply connects I only read about 2.5VDC. I think this could be my problem but I don't have a working unit to see what the actual voltage read should be. Thanks
First of thanks so much you've helped alot I've found the problem is on the bottom of te board the second soldered point isn't receiving power the first is and so is the two solder points holding the pico fuse but now what do u recommend I do to finish fixing the problem?
I'm wondering if the same applies to the Super Famicom. I recently purchased a SFC in Tokyo and it worked perfectly on Japanese a outlet. I then traveled to Hong Kong and stupidly plugged the SFC into a voltage adapter which I believe fried it... (I know dumb idea). Once I arrived back in the US I plugged SFC into a voltage step down and the console will still not turn on. I'm hoping replacing the fuse will bring her back to life. Any thoughts are welcome. Thank you for the great article,
Thank you for this overview! Would you have any recommendations as what to look for, if your super nintendo powers up (red led lights up) but there is no picture or audio from it? Thank you kindly.
This is an age old tip from the 1990s, someone once taught me - just desolder that fuse and solder a single strand of stranded wire across the gap. Done :)
Hi please help! I have done everything in this video, the 1.5a fuse did not have continuity, replaced it now it does. Checked continuity on everything else in this video and anything i could see. The circuit board looks very clean no mould or dust. I even tested the AC plug on a lamp, lamp didnt work, so bought a new AC adapter, nothing still. Im out of ideas :(
loved this video. My SNES problem is different. if you could point me in the right direction it would be a big help. it powers on but the first image is scrambled and wont move to the title screen. i cleaned all i could as gently as possible. i've exausted all non extreme attempts. thanks!
THXX.. Great instructional video!!! I just got a non-working SNES. It was my payment for fixing 2, NES consoles. I did this for a guy who owns a used junk type store in town. I'll see if I can get this thing resurrected!!
Hi mate. Great vid, i've isolated using my multimeter that mine has likely also blown the fuse, as im getting nothing through the meter. My question is this, I have a UK one and the fuse inside appears to be different to all the others i've seen online including yours. However all of these have been either US or in your case PAL AUS versions. Inside mine instead of the 1.5Pico fuse, I have a smaller green what appears to be a 1/2amp pico fuse? I assume this is becuase the UK outputs 240V for the mains, so perhaps a smaller fuse is required? I'm no expert on this stuff but does that make any sense or is mine been fiddled with in the past? Thanks
Could you please tell me where to check my snes it's only giving green and black on the output to the screen and it looks like a gameboy 🙈 I have a soldering iron and a good multimeter, which resistors could be blown up? Thank you for the video... I'll try it out on my second snes which doesn't turn on
I've bought a apparently broken SNES and it should arrive in a few days, the power button and LED work but the guy told me that he doesn't get a video or audio signal on his TV, do you know what could be the problem? Would be awesome if you could help me out! :D
I will have to check this out cause I had my SNES open to clean out the 62 bit part and it worked great as I tried some games before closing it back up but the switch was touching part of the Motherboard when I switch it on and then it wouldn't come back on again...I already ordered a new switch, which is fine as they only run about $4, but now I might be thinking it's the fuse...I'll have to check it out...but it shorted out after touching something when power went through
Just checked....took a wire and jumped the leads on the fuse to check and the power light came on...take it off...no light...my Multimeter does not have a Connunity or whatever it's called symbol to check connection on it...guess it's a cheapo..but this tells me what my problem is....
Does anyone know if you can use a can of CRC to clean the cartridge contacts? I've used it on old pinball machine connector blocks but there is no board anywhere near it, just pins
i've got a question for ya, my snes does recognize the cartridges, it even shows (for example using punch out) the nintendo logo, but it freezes there, the game won't start, i already cleant the 62 pin slot and the lower part of it, what else could i do to solve this issue?
Hello i am having trouble with my super Nintendo i cant seme yo get it working i couldnt get a 1.5 fuse only 1 or 2 and i try with both but for some reason it keeps blowing them off also i could only get The type of fuse thats like a glass. Any suggestions i van get from you? Thanks
What is it with the Pal Snes they always seem to have corrosion in the power and rf ports. The few Pal Snes I've seen all had that problem must be the weather over there
Thanks for the video. I am getting continuity all the way through even though the fuse whcih I thought was blown. The problem with my SNES is its powers up, displays the title of the game, and then goes black. Suggestions?
*Thanks guy, my Snes stopped working yonks ago but never threw it out, I want to sell it but don't have a clue where to start with* *diagnosing what the hell is wrong with it.*
I'm pretty sure you are testing the voltage incorrectly. The SNES Adapter takes in 120AC V and OUTPUTS 9-10DC V. You were testing the output as AC, although you got a reading close to the correct number, your method was wrong, you have to set the multimeter to 20 V DC.
Any suitable power supply will work. If you need AC or DC power supply depends on the region of your console. You don't need an official Nintendo one :)
Hello man, great video! I have a problem with my old SNES. I tried the original power supply and it won't work (I'm in argentina 220v) so looks like someone plugged the 110v and now it's gone. So I tried to find a 10v 850ma adapter but I can't find one. I'm trying with a 9v 1000ma 3rd party adapter and the console powers on, the TV gets signal (AV) but I get black screen and no sound. Could this be because of the low quality 9v adapter? Tried with different games. Cleaned the connectors, etc. Thanks in advance man!
mine turns without video but with sound for the first 2-3 sec then goes blank, power comes on just no video/ little bit of sound? tried with different games and got the same result. any ideas?
I recently bought an SNES and still don't have any games for it but when I turn it on the red LED light also turns on but nothing comes out on my TV, just the "No Signal" as if there was nothing connected, is this normal since theres no game in the system or should it still show something? i would really appreciate if someone that knows would respond.

How do you make it work on the TV? Mine turns on just, it being on channel 3 and antenna (rather than video) mine shows a black screen with thick white lines on it (like three) that will not go away. Someone help? :(
how do I reflow a ppu chip? my mode 7 graphics are corrupt...im a novice but when my game bit arrives i'll clean the board and chips using compressed air and isoproypal alcohol....that's the best I can do probably....any other tips to getting the mode 7 graphics up and running again? which of the 2 ppu chips will be damaged? can I use simple solder techniques?......many thanks people!!!

"AC Adapter" means 100/110/230/240 VOLTS AC @ the mains (wall) then transformed to 9 VOLTS DC in relation to a SNES. Just to let everyone know when their setting the multi-meter. ;)
+Joseph Arksey Actually, the PAL/US SNES expects AC9v on it's socket. It's same as the original NES and that's why their power adapters are interchangeable (it's even marked on the power adapters that were produced later than 1990-91). The japanese version of both systems expect DC9V though so you shouldn't use a EU/US power adapter on it.
We clearly have a conflict of information here, likely due to different regions. My US NES power adapter outputs 9v DC. I have a SNES adapter that outputs 10v DC. I haven't discovered yet if the SNES adapter is proper for my console though. Either it doesn't work at all or my console has a problem.
can you please watch my video, I have a snes motherboard with a bad chip. it's the one near the dude, I replaced the 1.5 pico fuse so I know it's not that. please ant feed back would be awesome, thank you

Star Trek Fan Made you can get a generic power adapter as long as its sending 9/10V and the connector fits
Excellent video. Thanks!
Cheers, my panic quickly turned to relief when i found the blown fuse.
i have two NES and one super nintendo. all wont turn on, tried all three plugs on all three consoles. so i have no clue

I have the exact same problem rite now too And I Don't know what to do.
I have a Super Nintendo the light comes on but nothing shows on the TV I thought it was the out a jack connection but it was not is anybody have a clue what's going on with it
probably because youre not suppose to be plugging it into a digital tv. Try the av button on the remote
Great vids, thanks!
Thanks this helped me fix my snes
Thanks, it was the fuse in my case!
I suspected the fuse, looked here to locate fuse in circuit.
Tested, no continuity, fuse blown.
Jumped to test, unit worked...............cool
Now to find a fuse.
Can i mail mine to one of you geniuses so you can fix it for me and i can show my children the glory that is Super Mario World?
Even if i got the gamebit to open my snes, all id be able to do is clean it as im not equipped or versed in any sort of repairs.
Console5 for pico fuse
Alternatively to a Super Nintendo you can use a Nes to test power adapters
Great vid, thanks a lot man.
