Just bought this for my son’s upcoming birthday this Sunday. I was hoping you would be doing a How to Play video as you always do an excellent job explaining the game rules. I’ll be rewatching with my husband and my, by then, 14 year old son on Sunday. My son will inevitably be saying: Please tell me we’re watching Rodney explain how to play the game. We’re all fans of yours. Thanks!
Been four years since you posted this but this Christmas morning my 10 year old son received this and this video is a miracle worker for him (first language is Japanese and second is English) as it was so easy to follow. Thank you, good sir!
Exactly 2 years later to the date I'm watching this video getting ready to play with my boys! My son saved up some money and bought the game yesterday. Thanks for a helpful video as always Rodney!
Thanks for posting this video. My son just got this game for Christmas and reading through the rules seemed a bit overwhelming. This video simplified things a great deal.
You know when a channel has value when individuals like myself reference a 4 year old video to learn a game! Thankyou for keeping gaming alive and without arguments 😄
Thanks a lot! I was givin this board game and thought the instructual directions were quite confusing this helped me understand how to work the mechanics!
This video is EXCELLENT and incredibly helpful so that I was able to play the game with my son. Thank you for the detailed breakdown and friendly narration to walk us through the game 🤗
You’re awesome! I spent last night reading instructions for the Godzilla game to my kids just to get confused blank stares. We watched you video and started playing with no issues.
This is really the best kind of feedback, thank you. Rule books can be quite confusing at times and it's my hope that the videos can lower the barrier to entry and get you to the fun of playing a little quicker (and with confidence). Glad to hear it was helpful!
Thanks for the video! Adhd makes reading printed instructions hard, but a full playthrough video would just take too long. This is a really good intermediate between those two. it got us set up and playing super quickly. Thanks!
This was really clear explanation, thank you. My 6 and 8 year olds understood it in first game. Many games to come, maybe with some house rules or add-ons. By the way, it is easy to mark depleted stack of tiles with white same size paper tile.
Box instructions were sufficient, but this video is exceptional. I really enjoyed watching this and refreshing the rules in my head (it has been months since I've played and I am about to bust it out for game night tomorrow).
I was almost regretting having purchased this game for $4 at a thrift store after I read the directions 😂 thankfully we thought to look it up on RUclips the next day instead and yours is the first video that popped up. I don’t understand Minecraft enough to play on Xbox but I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game with my kids:)
Speaking from personal experience, catching an object you've thrown isn't all that difficult except under unusual circumstances. I imagine Rodney makes sure no unusual circumstances are in play before filming intros.
Hello, this tutorial is so well made. You're the perfect host and I learned everything I needed to know to play the game (even corner cases). Thank you so much for making this from me and my boys.
Clear, concise, and to the point. Great video, and awesome enthusiasm. Bought the game and couldn't figure the scoring, but you cleared all that up! Thank you again, for the awesome play through.
In the thumbnail video preview, the block of blocks looked so much like the video game, with the pristine red table under it, that I didn't think it was real for a moment until Rodney's hand provided some context.
@WatchItPlayed Nice video which helped clear up some of the rules for me; however, I think one of the rules mentioned is slightly incorrect. At 4:15 it shows the weapon tokens being revealed alongside the tile card stacks. In the rule book it states that just the card stacks around your position are revealed after moving 0, 1 or 2 spaces, but it does not say to reveal the weapon tokens. So I think weapon tokens should only be revealed when a player chooses the action to take a weapon (probably revealed to that player only or maybe to all players, the rule book does not seem to be clear about this).
Unfortunately, sometimes the rules aren't clear, or have errors. I work directly with the publisher to clarify these sorts of things, and this is a case where the video is more up to date than the rule book.
Board games have come a long way in the last few years, and we’re fortunate to see many games with a popular IP, also being paired with clever designs now.
Great flip! I couldn’t even count them! You are definitely the best game teacher out there! This looks like a great family game. I don’t know if It will make our list, but I am enjoying learning more about the games coming out. I saw you have two more videos out. I am disappointed that Catan Starfarers is a three person game. The Table Talk has been really great, and I think we would love it, I will watch the other videos as I can, i am down to one week before I move to Oklahoma, so I have a lot going on! Thanks Rodney! I really love your enthusiastic approach to teaching. I am going to try and start a gaming club at the Air Force base where I am going to be working. I think it will be great, since it is a small town, and there are not a lot of things to do there.
I am here in the question section for the same reason. I would suggest Ravensburger to upgrade thisnin the next edition. When you reach 50 points you get a 50 coin or sometning (1x50, 2x50...)
Just wanted to say thank you for posting this video. I saw this game in Hamley's a couple of weeks ago and I have been considering getting it for the kids for Christmas. I still haven't decided 🙈🤣 but this video certainly helps make that choice. Cheers!!
Great guide, got us up and running much faster than by just reading the instructions aloud around our table. One quick question: can you trade in a mob on the turn that you win it (action 1 collect 2 blocks, action 2 fight and win mob - can you instantly trade it in on that move for another action)?
If you choose to stay in place does that mean you still get 2 actions (ie. taking blocks and building) or does "staying in place" count as an action of exploring the overworld by "moving 0, 1, or 2 spaces"?
If you choose to take the Explore action, and don't want to move, then you stay put and flip the facedown tiles at your location. However, if you're already where you want to be at the start of the turn, you don't have to Explore in order to "stay put". You can instead just do 2 different actions (taking blocks or building, for example). Hope that helps!
This was awesome! The rules that followed the gane were terrible. But we played it after the video, and we all had super much fun! My kids are 6 and 7, and we all enjoyed it 😊
Hey there, I'm always happy to try to help with rules questions, but if the answer is provided in the video, than I have to direct you there. You'll find an index in the description to help you find the section you might be looking for.
You'll find that covered here: ruclips.net/video/OnblaPBorjY/видео.htmlfeature=shared&t=388 - basically nothing happens. You failed at the attack (and wasted the action).
If you choose 2 blocks to build, can you reuse those blocks again when building something that require 3 or 4 different material? You said: once you have built something put the blocks in the box. What do you mean by that?
Hey there, when you spend a block on something, you return it to the game box - that means it is no longer in the game for you to spend it again later.
Hi Liam, I shot this long enough ago I don't remember what I say in the video, but it I don't indicate that something automatically flips, than it doesn't.
Thank you Rodney for this video. I was pretty curious about this game and your video helped a lot in highlighting the game elements and mechanics. I think I will eventually get this, seems a pretty simple but clever and fun game.
I'm thinking of buying this for my daughters for Christmas. They are only 7 and 8 but I believe they can play this. There's an expansion pack for this as well. It looks fun and I know they'll like this one. I have already ordered the card game of mine craft
I've always wondered how this game is played, I was wanting to get it for my 8 year old but it does seem a little complicated to understand right away. It's very unique and very true to the actual game though 🙂
We have pieces missing in our box 🙄🙄🙄 we have 4 colourless weapon cards missing, and 3 missing from the different coloured weapons cards, what are the cards that we are mean to have so we can make some make shift cards in oder to pay the game, as ravensburger don't reply to emails, thanks!
Before the third scoring round someone had built a bridge over my bridge. Then the next player took the last blocks from the third layer. When we scored that round he said I couldn't choose bridges as the structure I wanted to chain because I no longer had a bridge on the board. I didn't read that in the rules. Can I score on a chain of bridges if none of the bridges are mine. If I didn't build a bridge at all, can I choose bridges as the chain I'd like to score on? The rules never specified as far as I could tell.
Please, if someone could answer asap, I'd really like this clarified to solve an argument. He argues that if everyone can choose any structure, whether they built it or not, then everybody will score the same everywhere except when scoring experience for the monsters. He counter argues that that makes the players have to focus fighting monsters to win the game.
Hey Joseph, let's see if I can help. One thing I'm confused about, is you start by saying "someone had built a bridge over my bridge". How did another player end up building a bridge on top of your bridge? When you build something, you add the tile to YOUR board, not to another player's board. Did you make sure everyone had their own board to build on? When you score, you also only score for what's showing on YOUR board. So if you want to score bridges, even though you have none, you can, but you won't score any points. So yes, you CAN pick any type of structure when you score, but you'll want to pick one tat will give you points (and if you have no bridges on your board, you won't score any points. I don't know why your friend things you'd all score the same amount if you each picked the same structure point. The only way you'd all score the same, is if all of your boards looked the same. Know what I mean? Let me know if you're following what I'm saying.
It's been a little while since I shot this, but if I remember correctly the scoring tokens have a 50 on the other side, so once you pass 50, you flip the token over to show you banked 50 points and then keep going around the track again. There's no limit to how many points you can score, so if you go over 100, just keep track of that on a piece of paper, if you have to.
The in box instructions were awful for this game. We literally sat down and watched this video. Thanks for saving our game night. 🤣🤣🤣 👍🏻
So glad the video was helpful Spencer!

There's no limit to how many points you can score, so if you go over 100, just keep track of that on a piece of paper, if you have to.
