- If a structure is built on poor or uncompacted soil, including collapsible soil, it is likely to settle or sink in the future. This video shows how to stabilize and lift a settled or sinking foundation utilizing Push Piers and Helical Piers. Once the piers are installed they are permanently left in place and the foundation is permanently stabilized.

i just started working at a foundation company in the office, really helpful to understand what’s going on at these jobs!!
For anyone or contractors, FYI: Never use foam, it is basically plastic and breaks down over time, will not last. Galvanized or Stainless steel is the only way to go. Do not let anyone try and sell you just steel, DOES NOT matter the grade, rust never sleeps, and below grade there is always moisture.
Thank you for the visuals. I never really know what foundation was until now.
Curious why there wasn't concrete beams used in the foundation at the first place during the fiest time build, its a bit expensive sure but down the line, eliminates a lot of headache.
Because there are OLD houses that were fine for 100 years with out it.
They’re rushing to build these cookie cutter homes they don’t care about longevity
Are piers ever put in the center of the home or the center of settled areas of the home to properly support both the perimeter and the center and prevent collapse?
Yes, piers can be installed on the center footings of a home.
You need to call HoH SiS otherwise the JoJ won't get done all over again.
A little cofusing to see the heavy machinery pushing the HELICAL PIERS into the ground , and then the audio states that they are put in until reaching required torque. can someone explain this and what is meant by the weight of the structure itself not bieng what is used top make them work? being in weight bearing soil is what makes them work not weight right??? when is the weight of the house ever beneficial to making a pier work if you might explain ,.......since if the house had no weight at all for instance gravity would not be causing any settlement in the first place. what the hell? Is there a reason this is confusing to me besides my ignorance? or could it be explained in a better way?
There are two types of piers in this video., push piers and helical piers. Push piers use the weight of the structure, helical piers are installed using machinery until they reach the desired torque.
My brother is getting that done at his house in Houston Tx
which vendor he use and how much it cost? if you dont mind. Thank you
How did it go?
Hi. Just reaching out . Can you let me know - where and how much ?
I need this done to my home in Los Angeles, CA but the companies are charging me 40k for a 1200 square foot home
sorry to hear that. is he getting helicals or push pirs and how many. how much cost?
Very helpful. I'm building a house in Oklahoma. This will come in handy for sure!
I'm no engineer of course! I have people helping me build the place but I'm learning as much as I can so that I can perform proper home maintenance.
Feel free to call with questions
Does this work include a 50 cent washer at the end
Is helical piers applicable to internal footing settlement?
As a carpenter and former home builder, I would replace the damaged. If your floor is crooked it can usually be fixed from under the house, the piers may need to be replaced, because over time your outside foundation settles and your inside one don't, so lowering the inside one will straighten your floor back out. The outside band could be rotten and need replacing. In a lot of cases even if you did this it wouldn't fix your problems. Everything settles, and all foundations and concrete slabs crack. It doesn't matter if it has rebar or wire in it, it all cracks. So if there is just a small crack I wouldn't worry about it to much.
Got house with geo piers, water intrusion fixed dry in basement no issues there BUT noticed at the top of a 12ft section the wall starting to pull away from house at the top so the sill plate(2x6) hangs over inside basement about 2 1/2”. Floor slanted. Would this work. I thought just jack house and re pour or build cinder block wall? Any ideas
@@StLbfdup On most houses the brick on the outside of the house is just covering like siding. The house is built then the brick wall is added after the house is built. Unless it's a block house. I would have to look at it, but it sounds like you are saying the brick is pulling away from the house. And that can happen. when the brick are laid they attach it to the house with little metal pieces and nail it to the wall and mortar it to the brick. If the wall starts to rot, the nail pull loose and that could cause the wall to move away from the house. In some cases, you may have to relay the brick, to do that you have to take the brick off the house, when you do you will have the perfect opportunity to replace the plywood on the wall. then relay the brick.
just remember before you take the outside wall off build a temporary wall a couple of feet inside the house to hold up the weight of the house. If on a floor system you may have to put wall or supports under the house too.

Is one better than the other? Im getting two companies swearing by both... and im leaning to the push peir because it looks less invasive. It is such a strange scenario since the house has almost no damage but the sloping is severe.
You are absolutely right, push piers are much less invasive. The other benefit to a push pair is that it is load tested while it is installed. So we know it works and will hold the weight. Helical piers are theoretical during installation and we cross our fingers and hope they hold the weight once they are capped off.
Appears that you can stabilize the outside perimeter of a structure and you guarantee the result. Brave statement. How do you stabilize the interior footings from movement?
Duke Duarte With piers under the interior footings. Not much of a brave statement, this technology has existed for years.

Anyone mind sharing the cost per square foot? Looking for an ball park estimation.
Looking for someone to do this in Georgia..
How about Alccofine microfine cement injection grouting for soil stabilisation?
works well with stabilization, doesn't always lift. Typically we use a combo of the piers and injection to stabilize the soil.
Does home insurance usually pay the cost for this. I could only imagine the the setback.
So do you first recommend an inspection from a structural engineer which could cost about $500?
That's not a bad place to start. However, if we are in your area we can provide a free evaluation and estimate for repair.

yes sir.

Does it cost about $8000 like in the simpsons?

Around $20k for a job of that size.
I am dreaming of buying a particular property that will need a lot of this.
Sound great. Let us know how we can help you.
in general how much would it cost?
The problem with giving someone a "ball-park" estimate is that every foundation is unique. Cost can vary wildly depending on how many piers need to be installed and how bad your foundation is. Someone with expertise in that field needs to actually go out there to look at it. You might not even need what you think you need, and it could be another kind of project entirely. I would be wary of contractors that give estimates without first looking at the problem in person, because no two problems are alike.
My brother is paying around 6k
It doesn't do any good to ask "in general", because the standard useless response is "every house is different". Well, everyone knows that. We'd just like to know "in general". Surely a median cost exists. $1k? $10k? $50k? $100k? No one is going to hold you to it.
@@kwebster62 With major foundation repairs involving hydraulic piers costing $10,000 or more, and minor cracks costing as low as $500, most homeowners will pay around $5,838 to repair foundation issues. Here are a few things that can influence the cost of a foundation repair.Jul 26, 2016
@@sergiomash Perfect. Thank you.
Great explanation!
How much does this cost?
Average cost of helical repair is 20 to 30 K$. The first helical segment has 2 cutters. The rest are just extensions. With this system you also get a long term guarantee.
John Stauver not entirely accurate on the cost, some jobs can be much less depending on size area being lifted.
@@BASEcoSystemshow much would it cost to repair the foundation on a 3 bedroom,1 bathroom house with 1000 square feet of living space please?
just got an estimate on my house. They are having to go the whole perimeter. $75,000 @@DL-1
@fuzzybunny8095 what??? I'm sorry to hear that.
In the first place the foundation should have been better. The concrete should have been steel reinforced and assuming that the perimeter was a square, then a diagonal or two would have been added and an inverted prism effect obtained by using the third dimension components. The triangular inverted prism made of triangles would have been solid and would not distort and the whole house would move solidly without any cracks anywhere. It would be a little more expensive to start with , but better and more secure in the long run.
tell us how that helps now? you have access to a time machine?
Use a jackhammer with a pile driver head, schedule 80 black pipe. Driven to refusal. Cheaper
Jimmy Rice at what pressure is refusal with that approach? How do you know “refusal will be load tested? Cheaper than what?
@Zachary Morris Great input, Zachary. Many of the homes we deal with have full basements as well, so we often see upwards of 4,000 PSI for our applications. Thanks again!
is this method works for lifting borepile?
yes, If I am understanding you correctly. This is a method for lifting a foundation using piles or piers.
So what happens if you don't fix it...?
Steven Burns it will continue to settle and get worse with time if the water table fluctuated or drainage issues aren’t addressed.
