yeaa i got "paid training" AFTER I got my CDL and got hired on. Basically, they lead you to believe you're getting paid while training to get your CDL.

Yes, that's how it works. I just finished my driver's training and was required to go get my permit before it was over. However, 4 people that started with me already had their permits on their own so they were ahead of the game.
