  • In celebration of Women’s History Month, join Associate Curator of Manuscripts Jayne Ptolemy to learn more about the influential 19th-century activist Emily Howland.
Howland worked to advance abolition, African American education, women's rights and suffrage, pacifism, and more, yet many have never heard of her. Come explore her story and what the Clements staff have learned about her work and struggles while preparing a new and remarkable collection of her papers for public use. Through letters, photographs, diary entries, and more, we will think about the impact of her work, her personal life and struggles, and how women have shaped our history in ways big and small through the centuries.
