I love how they took reference from The Truman Show for FML because you sometimes do feel like the world is deliberately turning its back on you. Or sometimes your everyday feels so mundane and repetitive as if you're on a scripted play. Watching them saying 'fxxk it' and run away from that 'show' just like how Truman did is so encouraging
idk if you saw this later since this was recorded a while ago, but its nice to say that a lot of scenes from this mv is based on the truman show!
they are in a world that everything is coordinated and people watch your every move. so, they are trapped in this fake world and wont get out until they realize on their own that is fake.
about the scenes, the light on mingyu's car is a set light (as it happens on the movie as well), dk finding a camera by accident and they opening the window to find drones, shua with the pin, wonwoo with the rain that falls everywhere but on him and hoshi with the same mirror drawing as the movie are some hits about that reference. i loved it. its so smart.
My most fav line would be “in a world where you used of being numb / when you’re used to getting used to it, i just wanna find my self”
They talked about how this album talk about their struggles last years and how they are so grateful dor Carats and people around them. Thats why at the thankyou message of the FML album they wrote a long heart-felt message and closed it with;
“Thankyou for being our silver lining” 🥹
I also wanna quote Minghao’s message ;
“I love you and thank you for coming to see seventeen in the midst of your tiring daily life”
I may have posted this before, but posting again...
Woozi (a highly empathic INFJ) said he wrote this in the middle of the night, and it was very hard. He himself was going through a hard time (something similar to what's known as "the dark night of the soul). He said he had to dig deep and face all the "demons" and negativity that not only he was experiencing (think of their song "Shadow" which is all about doing shadow work and integrating/embracing your own "dark" side) but what people worldwide are facing right now, and it became very emotional for him and HARD to write the song. The purpose is to express what I would say the majority of the world's population are thinking/feeling right now, especially in those countries where people are under surveillance (Seungkwan, a whistleblower, in the corporate world, trying to escape like Truman did; DK finding a camera in his lamp and drones outside his window, so he smashes his TV which may also be spying on him; etc.), where everything wrong seems to be happening (Woozi doesn't even HAVE a driver's license and doesn't drive on purpose, so he probably would feel dumb trying to start a car and turning on the wipers instead...but Truman's car wouldn't start either), Mingyu having a stage camera fall on his car (just like the camera fell nearly hitting Truman in The Truman Show...Wonwoo trying to leave but getting blocked only to end up with it raining on only his right side (meaning the world is fake)...there are SO MANY references to The Truman Show in this video it's unreal!), Joshua saying goodbye to a friend only to find a button pin just like Truman did sharing Truth. They're all trying to escape the "set" or "stage" of life, but keep getting blocked. Truman desperately wanted to go overseas, purchased tickets, but was too afraid of the water to go. Woozi has a ticket, but keeps getting blocked...again, just like Truman did. The only way Truman could escape was to put a dummy in his bed (like Hoshi) so the producers of the show would think he was sleeping while he ran away. Did you notice that the drawing in the mirror that Hoshi is looking at is a monkey...referring to Sonongong...the mythical Monkey King of their latest blockbuster hit? And another thing I found significant is that as Dino is looking up at the night sky, the Big Dipper constellation changes into the Southern Cross. (The Cross.) The title of the book Woozi is reading is "Microwave and RF Design of Wireless Systems"...a tip of the hat to a "conspiracy theory" that we're being zapped with negative energies via technology (including our cell phones). It's significant that S.Coups finally walks over and turns off the lights on the set, indicating this life is nothing but a stage. Once the lights are out, that's when you see the ocean, with storm clouds forming in the background....just like the director of The Truman Show created to drown Truman once he finally beat his fear and got on a boat. TOO MANY references to the movie; and it's EXACTLY how people are feeling everywhere. Even Minghao (aka The8) said he's felt this way many times, and his only salvation--which is everyone's--was to find himself, which he does through meditation. So overall I think the video is beautiful...Seventeen letting their fan base CARATs know THEY UNDERSTAND what they're feeling...especially those in China and other tightly controlled countries...and that the way to overcome is to return to and find yourself. Don't quit, don't let the numbness (apathy) set in, don't hide your feelings by just laughing it off, don't fear your past self embarrassing you now because your past self isn't who you are now. And don't we all have a "secret" from the past that we're too ashamed to tell anyone? We can't let it define us NOW. FIND YOURSELF. FIGHT For Your Life (the billboards behind Jun read "Nothing Will Make You Happy", "Waves of Fear Coming To You" l, "Never Make Mistakes" and "Avoid Challenges/Stay Safe"...the messages/propaganda of the world and what we must fight to find ourselves and WIN.
Personally, I cry every time I watch it...not only because it hits home for ME, but watching others' react and seeing their pain breaks MY heart. We must NEVER think we're alone; and one day on the other side of THIS Truman Show we're all in, we'll come together, REMEMBER each other, reunite and be whole again. I look forward to that day every second I breathe.
Yesterday I watched an interview with Vernon, Woozi and Hoshi. They were answering questions from fans, and the last question was, "In the next life, what would you want to come back as?" Woozi said if he HAD to come back he'd want to be a cat: someone to love and feed him, and he could sleep all the time. Vernon, however, said, "But what if I don't want to come back?" Paraphrased he basically said that this life isn't real and there's more beyond here. Hoshi immediately said, "This is The Matrix", to which Woozi said, "Yeah...this is The Truman Show."

As someone who has adhd, I relate to you a lot on times when I have to rewind so much to watch parts that flew out of my head or notice little things and why things also take forever for me to finish. I even rewind your videos to rewatch some parts so a video like this that are 35 min long would take like 50 min long for me to finish. I started noticing that when I was watching videos with my friend and I had to rewind a couple of times because I wasn’t able to catch things while my friend did get a little annoyed which is understandable. I felt pretty dumb when I noticed why I couldn’t grasp things while my friend was able to but surprise, it’s adhd lol, I feel like that explains why I can’t do anything and felt behind, but these couple of months of me being alone I just started to accept it because what works for me, works for me no matter how ridiculous it looks. Seventeen just helps me despite all the lows, to keep moving forward and you will see thing that was once painful and dark to fighting for myself and doing things only for myself despite what others see as flaws. It may feel like you’re alone, but you’re not alone in this and we can get through this together 💪
Anyway, I’m proud of you for showing up and for doing so well at explaining, it’s one of the many reasons why I enjoyed your videos and hearing you passionately dissect things when many does not. Fighting!!

I just saw this comment, someone say that the MV itself is inspired by the movie The Truman Show, (there is man called truman that life in the fake world. He just life a normal life but someday he realizes that everything is fake, so basically he is the main character from a movie and all the people in there is a paid actors, their job is to monitor and make Truman believe that everything is real. but after he know, he tries to escape from this fake world and explore the real world)
In this MV, they're starts to realize that everything is fake, starting from Mingyu's scene. He realizes that he is in a movie when the lighting falls on his car. Dino realizes that the sky is fake bcs its strange that when he faces the sky, a star suddenly appears, which is actually just lighting that someone turned on to make him believe that the world was real, Also DK who found the camera on his lamp and he see many drones outside his room when he opened the curtains, so he smashed the tv so no one would monitor him. And the woozi, seungkwan, vernon, jun scene just they're all trying to get away from all of this. Hoshi's scene is he's trying to find clothes in his closet to make a fake doll so he can escape without them knowing,
actually this is too perfect so it's hard to express in words..but yeaah its like u said from this MV, it can be interpreted that they are trying to survive and continue living in this damn fvckng world, fight for their life. (its just like all of us that trying to survive and living even tho everybody have different case & problem but we all trying to fight for our life and for svt's case..bcs they're idols so in here they're all fighting to be free from being monitored constantly, hence all the camera imagery and all the "normal" citizens trying to stop them, since in the movie Truman's whole life was a lie and all the people he met were apart of the TV show that was svt's life. And at the end he escapes via a boat to get to the outside world, just like Seventeen!
Some interpretation is Seventeen, who have all been monitored even since pre-debut on thier Seventeen TV channel, are fighting to escape from the constant watchful eye they occurs as an idol and fighting to get to something real. And Jeonghan once said something like he hopes he can. be an island for his members to come to, so that's why they chose to gather on the beach with him. I love the message of this song lyrically,
I forgot to mention, that when Vernon being catch/?, Scoups is the one that turn off the system monitor/ things related to that. He trying to helped and led svt, so svt's were able to escape and finally in the end they got together

glad to see your reaction again! I've been waiting for this reaction since the ' super' one. and about your comments on the song and the mv itself, I could totally understand you since I'm the type of person who always regrets stuffs afterwards, but I'm trying my best to change that. And just like you this song perfectly arrived in my life at the time I really needed it, I think a lot of other ppl could also relate to that. I'm currently in the process of self healing after a long time of regrets and bad stuffs and this song and Yoongi's recent album (d-day) really helped and comforted me a lot. like I said before I have a lot of regrets and one of them is not meeting svt much early on, but now I really believe that svt just comes to you when you really need them the most (without even knowing them or knowing you've been longing for something), makes you feel like they're the missing piece in your life that you didn't even realize that you're missing, just like this song. Girl, you're making me cry...
This past Friday, I had the BIGGEST FML BREAKDOWN EVER! I won't bore you with my 2023 details, but just damn...I related to this song as soon as it came out; but this past Friday...after having A GAZILLION things go wrong (I'm seriously not joking), I crashed and burned! SCREAMING at the Universe/Source/Creator/God, "How much is someone supposed to take?", I kept hearing this song in my head. Do I say FUCK my life? Or do I FIGHT for it? This past Friday, all I could say was "F*ck" with tears streaming down my face. I was DEFINITELY ready to give up. No joke. To the END. Thankfully, Spirit came through and reminded me of Seventeen's "FML" and other songs...so I decided to give myself/Source/Creator/Universe ONE MORE CHANCE. Of course, we ALL know, though it may seem "they" don't give a damn about us...our prayers hit lead ceilings...and no one's listening...ultimately, we know it's not true. This song is VERY precious to me. I can honestly say it saved my life. GREAT reaction...this time. I couldn't relate to your first, but this time, it's beautiful. Thank you.

Although it took me awhile to finish my first listen cuz I kept pausing and rewinding to try and deal with how I feel cuz I was so emotional so I related although I don't drink I think it may have helped lol
