I own a IH 140. My Dad left it to me. He passed away 4 years ago. I need to get it starting and running to run a bushhog on a pasture. The farmer that leases a 40 acre part of the farm agreed to bushhog the field but he is busy planting and now spraying corn on the farms he tends. Thanks for the Servicing video. I know every time my dad started the 140 he ended up pulling it to start it. I probably need to spend some money on this one to rewire and tune it up. Just do not have the skills to do it myself.
Maintenance means some seat time soon.At factory I have 3 tractors for property maintenance. JD 2030 with 6' mower,the Ford that's decaled a 3600 but is a 335 Industrial with a 6' land plane and a Yanmar 2310 I use with a 50 gallon sprayer. Got to use all 3 last couple of days and after 4+ months of sitting all cranked and worked as they should. Yanmar was due for an oil and filter change. Literally took 5 minutes.1 gallon of Dello straight 40wt put it midway on the dip stick.Spent 2 hours last evening mowing with the JD. So relaxing!
Thank you for this video. I admit it is not like rocket science, but I find it helpful. I have purchased a 1956 130 to use as a cultivating tractor. I know very little about gardening truth be told. I learned to plow in the 50's on a Cub and was looking to buy one for a "tool". I think the 130 will be more useful for me . So far I only have the side dresser and a pallet of cultivators. In addition it came with a single row planter that mounts underneath on the cultivator rods. So at some point I am certain I will be asking for advice/help. I really enjoy the style in which you present the material and watch each episode mult times. Sorry to take so much verbage to respond, but this is my first post to U tube. Several good sites, several not so good. As I stated I really enjoy your post on the 140 or other farm equipment. Not young here, trying to pack some "fun" into whatever time I have remaining. I like seeing someone else who will use supertec lubricants and not think that it will ruin their stuff. You are however going to get all the folks who hate Frams telling you that you'll ruin it with that Fram filter.
If that's the exact same rearend as a super A, the 80/90wt. Should be fine and dandy. They didnt make hy-tran until they started putting hydralic pumps in the rearend. That is the longest production of any tractor IH made. From 1939 to 74? Major changes were made in 48, water pump, hydraulics, etc. But the frame stayed the same as far as general layout. They offset the tractor to avoid patent infringement on the Allis B. That turned out to be a good move!

hey Kyle the fill plug at the bottom of the cast right before to goes to the bull gear pan is also the check level. You want it just running out. I use 90w gear oil in mine.

EP additives in GL5 can chemically react and attack/eat up yellow metal. Zinc & sulfur, phosphorus do weird things. Look into it. Use yellow metal safe or "synchro safe" labled oil if unsure. Usually GL4 but not all of them...
Ya'll need to think about how much zinc is in your engine oil if your running 15w-40 on those yellow cam & governor bearings too. Some are okay & some not so much...
I did need to change the fluid. What’s involved is dropping the bull gear cover pan . It’s the pan at the bottom of the drop houseings that look like skinny oil pan. Lol
That’s a good question. I had to go back and look at the video. If I remember right I had just drove it and it must have had air or something in it to make it look that way. It stays in the shed 100% of the time . It probably was that color because of the air from driving it and it’s only a year old. The longer it stays in the darker it gets.
Don’t make one mistake the tractor experts are out in full force today mr joe 😂 and do you know anyone that way with a 6-8 row case ih planter. They want to get rid of? Or would you know a place I could look besides Facebook and tractor house ?
I would think places like western Kentucky would be loaded. Oh by the way I’m going to let that hy tran out of that steering box and put 90 w in it. That fluid is to thin leaking already

Should put fresh oil in the oil bath air filter when you service it. Black pepper will stop the water leak

I’ll be honest I know you probably should use sae 30 but I use 10-40 Pennzoil for both.

What gear oil? If there are yellow metal parts in there such as syncros don't use GL5. , use GL4 ect. Also what engine oil are you running? SAE30?

The final drive full /check level is right above the bull gear cover on the cast of the drop houseing.
