Superb song! Superb album! When they burst on to the UK scene this was mesmerising. Can still remember when I rushed out to buy this album on release. When they were edgy!
I think a great thing to watch would be “City of Blinding Lights” (Live: 360 tour) to show the Gen-Z’er what a rock show looks like… best live band going!!!
Nice to see some early U2 when they were less polished and more raw. I really liked that period as I was around when they started out! It's difficult for reactors sometimes to appreciate earlier songs if they've started with an artists more commercially successful stuff. I agree with you that there were hints of Simple Minds as they were a bit similar and both started out around the same time. They were both very successful in the UK but I think U2 were bigger in America. Cheers from UK.
Not exactly an happy song since it's about Bono's mother passing away, still an awesome song though. It's incredible for me how some of the lyrics started to make sense to me only many years later, when I actually lost my mother too.
This was never one of my favourites by U2, a "5" sounds fair!, bearing in mind they've set the bar so high, Its much better live!. You should try out "Pride" and "Bad" (live) from Gaints Stadium, Amnesty International in 1986, Bono is at his vocal prowess! or the same tracks (live) from Self Aid benefit concert 1986. A Great early song to react too is, "Drowning Man" which is an album track, theres no official video for it!, but its worth a reaction, its a beautiful passionate earthy song. Another track i think the young lady might like is "The Sweetest Thing" its a great song and the official video to it is brilliant!
This is the only song in U2's repertoire that they have performed at every live show they've ever done.
I feel like this girl is just growing up right before our eyes. Please have her react to U2 Bad, live at Live Aid in 1985.

This is not a happy song. This is about Bono’s mother dying when he was only 14.
try their song Mysterious Ways, funky and psychedelic. good song

React to U2 live. It will change the way she views the songs. Guaranteed
You should listen to his son: Inhaler with My Honest Face, absolutely wonderful and just like his dad ;-)
When U2 had grit
More of 30 years of that, my friend!
This was recorded before Bono decided he was cool
