I'm from Sweden, and this song was hot in Sweden 1989. Two years later, my schools Russian language group invited me to join them on their language learning trip to Olonets, Petrozavodsk and Leningrad/St Petersburg (I was there when the city changed name 7 nov 1991). This song was played EVERWHERE where music was playing so the biggest memory of my Russian language trip was a song from Brazil sung in Portugese.
Lambada is actually a dance type of Brazilian origin. So the song itself was named lambada as a reference. But Lambada is more than just this song. It also became a matter of discussion because the girl dancer was blonde and the boy dancer was black as a sign of openness. Kaoma is the name of the band actually made of musicians from Brazil, the Martinique and Guadeloupe. You should also react to the original from Bolivia in Spanish. But the lambada sequence here is in Portuguese.
When I was kid it was my favourit song. But at that time I didn't know the name or the artists and we didn't have internet to find. So each time I heard it on the radio I was so exciting.
Like the Village people, it's also imagined and produced by French people who had the idea of creating this Kaoma group. The group was made up of Brazilians and French. In both cases it was a worldwide hit and it is also from France that the Macarena was popularized which will spread to the world. I remember that the dance was invented by the choreographer Mia Frye who is American and lives in Paris since the end of the Sixties ...
I am from London. I was a kid when this came out. I pined for South American life from the moment I heard it! 😂 I eventually married a Colombian woman and learned to dance Salsa 💃 lol not quite Brazilian but close 😂❤
I hardly think the French can take credit for those tunes and the Portuguese language. It was produced in France, but the spirit of it is South American and Caribbean to the core.
5:07 " _these kids know how to bust a move_ .. _he must be a beast now_ .. _all grown up dancing an killing it_ .. _holy crap_ " Well actually the kid is now a priest, and the girl vet.. (no not vegetarian, a veterinarian ;) ) .. would you believe it ?
It was a success in France, on the other hand the singer was found burned dead in her car, we know nothing of the drama if she was murdered or car accident, the two young dancers subsequently made a single
Come on people has soon as you hear the accordion music starts playing you want to get up and dance 💃 you can still take this beautiful music and song and the accordion music to any disco club's and people will get up and dance the night away let's go back to the eighties ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
i played this in a bar 2 years ago and someone said "someone stole this from J-Lo" she wasn't a "singer" yet she was a "Fly Girl" on In Living Color when this packed dance floors all over the world
This song was actually stolen from a latine American band by french productors. Fortunately as it was an international success the original band recognized there song and claimed the credits.
Hi Dereck, this song was a huge success here in Brazil, featuring a musical movement that took place in the late 80's. Other singers and bands also recorded this musical style called "lambada". unfortunately the vocalist of the band "Kaoma" died in a brutal way, as it was said here in the comments.
The lambada became world famous in 1989 with the version "Chorando se foi" by the musical group Kaoma, also titled "Lambada"; this was a plagiarism of the original Afro-Bolivian saya song "Llorando se fue" (1981) by the abolivian group Los Kjarkas. Kaoma plagiarized the authorship of the composition from Los Kjarkas. The Kjarkas sued Kaoma and won by proving the plagiarism of the Brazilian group. Anyway, Kaoma took the merits and fame of the arrangement that corresponded to the bolivian group.
I loved this song so very much back in the days...i was shaking my hips because they dont lie:-) APPROVED thanks for ur reaction! sending hot 36°C regards from berlin! x
This is a legendary song for me...i watched the girl s moves soo much to learn this dance...my Mom made me the skirt and i busted the moves on every family event. A mood and experience i will remember all my life. It was delighting to see you turned on by this. Bless you!
This song was a real summer hit in my country (France) Nothing to do with that but I think that you should react to: "Spirit In The Sky" by KEiiNO (Eurovision 2019) from Norway
OMG the lambadaaaaaaaaa!!! i had 3 years old when it came out and i remember listening to this clearly ! that brings so much nostalgia i'm almost crying ahah! it was everywhere! on tv, radio all summeeer! thank youuu!
Chico & Roberta, the children were so cute ! This song was an hit in all France, my grand-aunt, 70 Years old bought the record too ^^ everybody "try" to dance lambada ! :)
I think it was the real beginning of the summer hits sponsored by a TV channel in France. The MV was broadcasted several times a day on the channel which helped to reach the success it had.
You have heard this before as Ven a Bailar by JLo Yes, this is a cover of a cover of a cover that has since been covered and covered so the Pitbull/JLo hit Ven a Bailar is a cover of this and this is based originally on a Bolivian song.
I was 12 years when i lerned to dance on this. In those times we all dance Lambada 👍👍🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰 thk for the memories 🥰🥰🥰🇷🇴🇷🇴 I have 38 years old and i still know to dance on this like that girl 🤣🤣🥰🥰👍 that was his father and didn t let her to dance like that and specially with that boy , and they where in love 😢
I can’t believe this one is new for you Derek. I can understand you had no idea about the French songs you previously reviewed but that one is a world’s classic and only a shrimp lost in the middle of the desert wouldn’t know about Lambada. Even the ice cream trucks play this music in the US. Is it all staged?
Yeah ! Chico and Roberta (that the kids names) has become children stars when this tune was released in the 90 ‘s. They were in every tv show sets during this time.
Those two kids are Chico Et Roberta, and they were Portuguese singers. I would suggest a reaction to two of my favorite songs of theirs: Festa No Mar and Frente a Frente. You will love them!
Happy song! Got everything a summer hit should have. Great reaction Derek 👏 For Pride 🏳️🌈: Darin "cant stay away". I think you will like it; a lot! Be safe ✌️ 🇸🇪🇪🇦
Après le succès de la "Lambada", ils ont fait chanter ensemble Chico et Roberta "Frente a frente". After the success of the "Lambada", they made Chico and Roberta sing together "Frente a frente"
Sad fact the singer was killed burned out car in 2017... Also this is what Jlo sampled for on the floor... But I'm typing this comment watching the video so I dunno if you mention it later on ☺
This song was the #03 best selling single of 1989 in the World (#01 was Madonna "Like a Prayer" and #02 "Swing The Mood" - Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers) but "Lambada" managed to be #01 best selling single of 1989 in Europe (selling over 4 million singles) and was also best selling single of 1989 in France, Italy and Portugal. The video still plays on European Music Channels (seen it last week on MCM - french music channel). You know the song as it's sampled by JLO on her song "On The Floor".Of course that this being in Portuguese in still played a lot here in Portugal (and was #01 for 26 consecutive weeks back in 1989 - becoming for longest #01 ever on the Portuguese charts). In France there are many hits in Portuguese that are successful in the charts as there are over 1 million Portuguese living in Paris and another estimated 2 to 3 million living in other regions of France (plus dozen thousands from a few others nationalities like Brazilians that also speak Portuguese). By the way, the beach where this music video was filmed is a very small island near Ibiza in Spain (not Brazil).
The lady I was dancing with to this, back at our company Christmas party in '89 certainly seemed to be in favour of unity, if you get my drift. She was from South Africa and had natural rhythm to spare! I've always loved the song. The 'B' side of the single here in the UK was instrumental only.
Hello Dereck ! How are you ? If you want to continue discovering Brazilian hits, you can listen to Rapunzel by the Brazilian female singer Daniela Mercury. Enjoy...
This came out around 1989 it was all over latin America it was HUGE I remember being 8 years old trying to learn to dance it 😳 Jennifer Lopez sampled it in one of her songs
Labada was a brazillian forbidden song from the natives…. After years was wordly expressed and loved…… later years jlo and pitbull did the version in english……🇨🇾🏳️🌈🌈🦋🌻✅🌺😆💚🍒🦋🇨🇾🏳️🌈🌺

@@nocturne7371 yeah, its true, it was everywhere. I was a kid, but i remember it. Even now you can hear Lambada at the parties
Hi Dereck, it seems familiar, because Jennifer Lopez recorded another version feat Pitbull, On the floor

I don't know her
@@NobodyKnows691 ahaha !

Yeah it’s basically a cover of a cover that has been covered and covered - JLo is probably the 6th version of it

I grew up with that song, first worldwide summer hit
When I was kid it was my favourit song. But at that time I didn't know the name or the artists and we didn't have internet to find. So each time I heard it on the radio I was so exciting.
This lambada music video is sponsored by the French drink brand "Orangina"
Oui, c'est tellement flagrant ! Les affiches derrière le bar, la fille en robe jaune qui secoue deux bouteilles commes des maracas... 😉

I am from London. I was a kid when this came out. I pined for South American life from the moment I heard it! 😂 I eventually married a Colombian woman and learned to dance Salsa 💃 lol not quite Brazilian but close 😂❤
This song never fails to remind me of humans being sentient, feeling, emotional, profoundly artistic beings.
Dereck : listens to south american music
The music : is secretly french

Chico d'Oliveira (anagram of Olivier Lorsac) 😀
Huge song. My suggestion: "Maldon" by Zouk Machine, a crazy French female trio from Guadalupe. In two words: awesome and hilarious. A treat!
