Verbolten is one of my favorite coasters of all time, and certainly the best themed coaster outside of Universal or Disney. In fact it almost feels like the type of coaster they would build with it’s approachable intensity, dark ride elements, and the innovation of the drop track (Hagrid’s even steal this last part wholesale). Great coaster for those of us who love speed, theming, and surprises but are maybe too afraid of heights for most of the big boys (cough, it’s me, I’m too afraid of heights for most of the big boys).
The helix in the building, I was able to tell that I was grating out because I was able to see a little bit but then my eyes got fuzzy. The vertical drop was a huge surprise to me and my dad because we were not expecting but it was insane.
I have to disagree with you on the Big Bad Wolf. It was getting a little rough on the edges, but it was a unique ride that will be missed. It was my favorite ride at Busch Gardens until they replaced it.
Ride this with a stranger next to you who has never rode before. The look of utter soul destruction when the vertical drop happens is priceless,Che light flashes just long enough to see their sanity evaporate like cool summer rain
Do you really consider this a family coaster? I mean the drop is actually pretty big, it has two launches, a vertical drop, and goes 53 mph. I know lots of people who would be scared to death to try this and would consider it extreme and even RCDB says that it's extreme.
PJ Gear Yeah. I mean really, even saying that it's a thrill coaster is king of pushing it. I mean he said that there is so many G forces in the building that people gray out, that is not a family coaster.
Coaster fans tend to get modified ideas of what is a "family coaster" over time. I have a coaster-fan friend who referred to Canobie Lake's Untamed as a family coaster. That is a ride that begins with a vertical lift and a 97-degree drop, then has three inversions. It's not big or all that fast or forceful, but most non-coaster-freaks are terrified just to look at it.
Matt McIrvin Understandable as a coaster fan myself, so I kind of understood it. I just found it funny that in the same saying, "you gray out inside and might not notice it" followed by "family coaster". Those two things don't go hand in hand lolol. Loch ness monster in my opinion is more of a family coaster than Verbolten, despite it's inversions.
Elias Mertens I Went On It A Few Hours Ago, And I Would Consider It As A Thrill Coaster. In side the building, the helix Alone is More Intense Then All Of Loch Ness Monster, At Least when I Rode It.
We rode it for the first time two weeks ago in the front row and fell in love with it. This and Firechaser Express seem to be the pinnacle of family coasters.
I know it’s a old video and was bound for mistakes but, the vert track drop is 18ft and if I remember correctly it’s the only coaster on the planet with a very track drop
Great review as always! I've been meaning to get out to Busch Gardens for a while now, looks like a great park. Your walkthrough made me want to go there even more.
I know this is a very old comment, but you definitely should (assuming you haven't already)! BGW is my home park and I've ridden every coaster there, and all of them are great!
Rode this for the first time yesterday and didn't watch the review until today I definitely agree with the inside section being the best part , I wasnt expecting that at all it was a great surprise & a very fun ride. One of my favorites at Busch Gardens for sure.
Great review, but the best part is the swooping bank into the Rhine that is an instant throwback to the Big Bad Wolf 🐺. It’s an upper level family coaster that is beautifully themed, mildly intense and extraordinarily fun dark ride elements. The drop is fun, the launch 🚀 is perfect and the final swoop is a thrill.
“Capacity on this ride rocks!” Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure: “Hold my beer!” (Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure can operate with up to 12 trains.)
"Not very steep" is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. That last drop is basically the same one the Big Bad Wolf had in the same spot. I remember thinking of it as nearly vertical when I first rode it! But these days, beyond-vertical drops are common. I think this one is pretty impressive to a family-coaster crowd, though.
OMG I just rode this coaster today, and wow. The theming. To be honest, I think this is WAY intense to be a family coaster. I even think Griffon is less intense. The whole time I was riding Verbolten, I was thinking, this is like I’m watching a horror movie! I enjoyed this rollercoaster very much.
This is definitely an experience coaster instead of an intensity coaster. You're being thrown about, unsure of everything trying to make sense of everything. And if you don't know about the special surprise, good. That was singlehandedly the coolest surprise I've ever had on a coaster. It couldn't have been performed bettee.
If you think about it. The vibration of the trains helps the theme a bit. Most cars vibrate a bit as they move. If the train vibrates it supports the idea that you're in a car.
I actually like the vibration of the ride compared to say Apollo’s. It makes you think that you’re off-roading thru the woods. The three stories also help with rerideability. And now you can’t complain that Intamin didn’t build this now that Pantheon is up right across the river
This is one of my personal favorites not because it's the best coaster but because it's so unique and fun to ride with people who never seen anything about it. I deliberatly looked up NOTHING about this coaster before riding it and my experience is as follows "ok we are out of the station with a couple curves with a lift hill and ride through the woods. Wait the lift hill is enclosed, hmmm that's an odd looking liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiift hillllllllllllll. Oh it's an indoor horror ride. Why are we stopped at this block break for so looooooooong (drop track)" I love just how unique it is.
For me this is just a fun ride not something to wait in a 2 hr line for the sudden drop was great tho it rattles a bit mainly noticeable on 2nd launch but it is bareable rating for ride (7.5/10 for me) it blew me away but didn't at the same time
I just went to Busch Gardens yesterday (7/22/22) and it was closed all day! :( It was the only coaster credit I didn’t get :( Oh well, hopefully it’s open the next time I go.
There are actually 4 themes. Wolves, Forest, Storm, and Ghosts. Ghosts is the one that has the glowing green face that speaks to you as you slowly creep forward on the brake run.
Oh also, noted in this video Busch Gardens hasn't worked with Intamin for a bit possibly due to its downtime. 2022...Pantheon, an Intamin, opens up at Busch Gardens. The day I go it's down at 1:00 and never re opens :( Some locals told me it's been experiencing down time in general. ......Oh Intamin lol
I will review it when I go back to Dollywood, which is looking like early August. I was planning on going earlier but because LR's opening kept on getting pushed back, so did my visit. Oh well! It'll be open by August and hopefully will have broken in a little, so look forward to the review then!
+Coaster Studios hope that does not go to the point where the ride gets demolished, which is probably in that direction, now. Don't get me wrong, though.
Ok so every year for my birthday I can pick an amusement park to go to. This year I'm going to carowinds but I'm thinking about next year. Next year I'm choosing kings island or bush gardens Williamsburg. Part of my family lives in VA so if I go to bush gardens there's a slim chance I will also get to go to kings dominion as well. Which should I choos, kings island or bush gardens and possible kings dominion. ?
Honestly, I'd say Busch gardens. It's coaster lineup is good all around instead of the top three like kings island or kings dominion. Either way all three parks are great so it doesn't really matter which one you want to go to
It looks like an Intamin alright, but still doesn't ride like one. But you have to give Zierer credit for making another thrilling coaster after Wicked, since they were known for building mainly kiddie coasters at parks.
YAY, and my thought on Verbolten:When I get to BGW in 2017, I will definitely stop at Oktoberfest to ride this a few times. I think that Verbolten > Loch Ness Monster because of the theming and intensity. Loch Ness Monster seems like the smoothest Arrow Looper in the world and does not look forceful at all, but Verbolten is very forceful on that indoor section. The ride's beginning is boring and the end is okay, but I seriously wish that Zierer would make the end section of this coaster longer, maybe a small portion back into the show building with crazy banked turns, and then an element similar to what Backlot Stunt Coaster has at the end, maybe something like where it drops out of a billboard advertising the dark forest.
One time when I went on Nitro the brakes did NOT deploy AT ALL on the mid-coarse brake run. We ended up getting A LOT of airtime coming back to the station! It was a fully loaded train too!
They did incorporate a few nods to the BBW. One of the cars Has WolfXing as its plate, one of the themes for the indoor part is a wolf attack, and they ,well, attempted to replicate the final drop.
This ride surprised me I got on it thinking it was a kiddy coaster
JRax 17 SAME! The inside part is super intense.
Wow, I’m not the only one!

How is Busch gardens??
What theme did you get?
Hey there Koaster Kids!
Dang it I'm going on Friday
that spirit in the theming dark building will jumpscare you

The drop track freaked me out so much because I had no idea and the picture was hilarious!
this was my first “big kid” coaster when i was abt 10 yrs old and i loved it then and still love it now!
the drop scared me so much 😂
The vertical drop always gets me, I hear the laughing and then drop

I rode this and it was soooo much fun
The third story is the spirit of the forest, with this one, you actually get a bit of a warning before the track drops

I like the license plate: "WOL FXING". Nice homage to The Big Bad Wolf.

This ride scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. I was not expecting that track drop and I thought the ride broke.
Timely review! Going to BGW for the first time in years in just two weeks. Hate that the Wolf is gone, but I'm looking forward to its replacement!
lol there were so many surprises with this roller coaster. i was very pleased with it

Not really. It's kinda rattly, and it's fairly intense.

how would they bring back a coaster made by a company that doesn't exist anymore?

Am I the only one who thought that after the drop, everything was rough?
Verboten is a great coaster but that helix going up to the drop elevator is a little too intense.
