The animators did not need to go all out with that, but I will always replay that scene.
It's only a case of "gender equality" if the girl in the first part of the clip is feeling entitled because of double standards when she hurts a male, and then the same thing happens to her. Not if it's just a guy being mean to her without context. For instance I don't think anything that happened in the whole series haiyore nyaruko san was satisfying gender equality, it was just the girl being incredibly tolerant of the guy being an asshole the whole time. Though he really was bold in so doing, since she was actually a lovecraftian monster after all and could have eaten him for lunch.
She was also incredibly intrusive and (unwantedly) sexually aggressive. If a guy busted into a girl's bedroom not taking no for an answer when she is clearly unwilling, then no one at all would be bothered if he happened to get blasted with a shotgun at that particular moment. Yet Nyarko doing it is played for laughs, mainly because the audience is full of guys who desperately wish for that to happen to them. But Mahiro had said NO, time and time again. He did not want. Yet she respected none of his boundaries. There's your double standard.
The reason the series counts as "gender equality" is because it's a role-reversal of the typical annoying trope of "guy does something perverted (accidently or not!), gets punched by violent tsundere". Often times the violence is completely unwarranted in the standard female-on-male abuse form. In this case, Mahiro is quite literally defending himself against tentacle rape, so the violence is very much warranted.
Now, I do get it, sometimes he went beyond defending himself into asshole territory, like throwing objects at her just because she said something he interpreted as annoying, but again, this is a role-reversal of the _obnoxiously prevalent_ trope of violent tsundere female. It's also a LOT tamer than some of them. Many of these violent female characters ought to be in prison for the horrible things they do that are played for laughs.
