Sharpest Fuji Lens for Weddings?! Fuji 90mm f2 Review

- Опубликовано: 2 авг 2024
- In this video, I give my review of the Fuji 90mm f2 lens. I believe it's Fuji's sharpest lens for wedding photography. This lens is a detail monster, and a great telephoto prime for any fujifilm wedding photographer. While it's not my most used lens, the Fujifilm 90mm f2 has a dedicated spot in my lens line up for very good reasons. Check out the video to hear more about why I take this lens to every wedding I shoot with my Fujiflm X-T3.

Literally for a while I have been going back and forth between the 80 macro and 90mm in which to buy and finally I made the choice just yesterday..... 90mm it is an I am super pumped to get it. After watching this I feel even better about the decision. Thanks Reggie for the constant vids and info.
Bradley C nice man! Glad you’re pumped! It’s a great piece to add to the kit
I primarily shoot portraits. I have the 90 and 56 in my kit but I definitely prefer the 90 for it's compression, sharpness, and faster/more accurate AF. The 56 comes in clutch when there isn't as much space or for certain full body shots. As well as low light situations.
Totally agree!
thanks for the review. I've been thinking about adding this lens & this helps.
Thanks for watching!
This lens is amazing. Love mine! And sharp as a razor!
I've rented it a few times, I really like it. And never thought about it for ring shots, but I guess I didn't think of it in that context. Does a beautiful job during receptions. I think I'll just grab the Viltrox f1.8 though 85mm
I love this lens. The sharpness, the good enough compression for portrait & focus speed. An excellent partner of X-H1.
🙌🙌🙌
I own and love this lens. I agree with it being the sharpest lens I own in the kit . I personally use it for corporate style headshots and single subject portraits . Would love to give it a go on the product/details .
Darren Lingerfelt if I got a headshot gig, I’d be reaching for this lens for sure!
Wow! Beautiful photos Reggie.
Thank you kindly
thanks for this review, just ordered for my x-h2.
You’re welcome!
I only uses one lens for my wedding shoot - Fuji 35mm F2 with Fuji XT10. SO far no complaints from clients and keep cost down.
Great video! Very informative. Really had to chew over whether to purchase the 90mm or the 80mm Macro. Ended up going with the 80mm for a but more versatility (though you certainly have to PAY for that versatility). My tests between the two lens suggested the 80mm was just a hair faster in acquiring focus as well, though admittedly, I'm not certain how important that fraction of a second is. Sadly, also losing half-a-stop with the 80mm. Everything is a trade-off.
I’m sure it’s a great lens still. Don’t fret to much, it’s taking away from how much you can shoot :) the 80mm is definitely on my list
Hey Reggie, just curious if you had any videos on metering modes and focus modes specifically for weddings/engagements. I have seen some videos about Fuji’s metering modes but I can’t seem to find anyone give examples of using which focusing mode switching between C and S..not so much manual. And also the metering modes and what situations to use matrix vs spot etc...Just seeing if u had any insight or previous videos. Keep up the awesome content man tyvm.
Inshoot in manual, so metering modes don’t do much. And my 1 year xt3 video has my breakdown of af modes that I use ruclips.net/video/-csRoa_5yw8/видео.html
Hey Maaan great job. I ACTUALLY use the 90mm f. 2 for close up details and expressions portraits. But it does great job with actions scenes also
Yes!!
You are doing great job !
I have Fujifilm 23/35/50 F2
Mitikon 35 f 0,95 Samyang 12 f2
The best is Mtikon and Samyang
I can recommend to give a try with different brands 😊
Thank you for video !!!!
I have the rokinon 12mm
hey i wanna buy this lens to shoot portraits with the blur background .... do you think its the best idea?????
And, would you also review the best fuji Macro lens please???? thanks.. and I subscribed your channel.
It would be nice to see a video with the MCEX 16mm extension tube and the 56 1.2.
robiunc it’s on my list lol. I’ve taken so many photos wirh that combo
This is on my bucket list. Torn between getting the 50-140 again or go all prime 😬
Haha!
Nice, mate. The 90mm is only my second lens and I use it for sports until I can get the 50-140mm. Thanks.
Awesome!
Is this a good lens for all around photography I have the 18 to 55mm and want somthing better for portraits and wedding photos and all around
So I was set on buying the 90mm in a week or two, however I add my 16mm MCEX tube for ring shots and close ups. This is when I have started really looking into the 80mm macro 2.8. It has OIS as well as WR. I looked at videos of the 90 vs 80, and the 80 seems to be great for macro as well as the portraits from a distance in weddings.
Normally I use: 14 f/2.8, 23 f/2, 56 f/1.2 and occasionally attach the 50-140. Thoughts or video regarding 80 mmm macro please.
If you can rock the 2.8 then go for it. I personally haven’t tried the lens
I want to take better photos of my artworks up close and I’m also wondering which is better the 90mm or the 80mm . I haven’t seen a comparison video on these two lenses ..
Probsbly the 80mm
Love if u could review the 50-140mm F2.8, it would be great to hear your thoughts
Elias Pap haven’t had my hands on that one yet. Thanks for the suggestion
I will pick one up next week, in a deal of a life-time: XF 90mm F2, XF 16-55 f2,8 AND XF 50-140 f2.8 for… a 1000 bucks for the lot!
The Fuji 90mm is definitely in my top 3 to purchase.
Jeremy Wenrich what else is on your top three?
Reggie Ballesteros, it’s important to qualify that I use my Fuji X-T3 for video and photography on day hikes and backpacking trips. I already have the 16-80mm and am very happy with it. I plan to pick up the 23mm f/2 and 90mm f/2 next. Hopefully I’ll be able to afford those and the 16mm f/2.8 and 35mm f/2 lenses.
Awesome great list!
damn this makes me question about getting the viltrox 85mm 1.8 now - though just recently saw they are releasing a mark II of the 85mm - so maybe will wait a bit and see
What are you concerns?
@@Reggiebphoto oh just mainly cost/budgeting
i need this lens !
Get it!
Reggie, how does the 50-140 look at 140mm f/2.8 compared to the 90mm and 56mm? As far as compression, bokeh, sharpness and overall how pleasing to the eye.
I haven’t tried the 50-140
I’d love to hear your review of the Fujinon 18-120 lens
Would you recommend this for wedding video? Is it as fast as the 23 / 35 f2’s
63MacGuy yup I would say the af is just as fast. As far as recommendations tho, it depends on what focal lengths your prefer
It's hard for me to decide between this lens and the 50-140. What shutter speed are you using indoors with this thing Reggie? Do you think ibis in the xt4/xh1 is enough to get down to 1/125-ish handheld?
1/125 is something I don’t try to handhold at all due to motion blur. I use the 90mm in low light in this video ruclips.net/video/to7Pg4qOeKs/видео.html
Reggie Ballesteros nice I think I saw that video but I forgot some of the tips you had in there. 1/200 is pretty doable for me, and it looks like you can do 1/125 in a pinch if you’re careful. I think it beats out the zoom for me, plus it’s cheaper. Thanks dude 🙏
If i already have 16mm f1.4, what would u suggest me to buy next, this 90 or 56? Im new into photography
56 1.2 or 35 1.4
Thinking about buying this. Have you tried the one from Viltrox? And do you ever miss the 50-140 for weddings?
Silas Bang I’ve never tried the viltrox. And I’ve never owned a 50-140. If I had the 50-140 I’d probably use it the same amount 50-140
Reggie Ballesteros Thanks. I almost bought the 50-140 for a wedding but after seeing your excellent videos I am thinking about going for the primes.
Haha! It works for my stule. But if you like more reach - then 50-140 is the way to go
Cool lens👍
definitely!
Question: I rented the 56 f1.2 recently to shoot some HS grad photos. I really loved the results. But, as an amateur I can't really afford to buy a lens that has a narrow use case. I also love to shoot sports and landscape. So, I was thinking that the 90mm might be a better choice since I can use it for all of those. The only thing I'm concerned about - other than the price of course - is that there is no OIS. I shoot with an XT-3. Is the 90 too big/heavy to use on an XT-3 with no OIS? I had no issues with the 56 and I also shoot with an old Canon FD 135mm, but the 90 is heavier than both of them. Thanks for your thoughts.
ois is not necessary. just use the right shutter speed
@@Reggiebphoto That's what I was hoping to hear!! Thanks.....
Brother..i have 18-55 lens for my xt20. Which lens i should buy for potrate now?
it really depends on your budget and needs
I sent mine back because it had dust in it within 2 days!!! Otherwise I loved it lol the images were awesome but a weather sealed lens should not be bringing in dust
How is it compared to the XF 60mm and the 80mm macro?
Birju B have not tried those lenses out yet
Hi sir. I just saw a 90mm got broken from a Fuji group.
May I just ask, how do you place your 90mm in your bag? Im starting to get paranoid, what if im putting it in ny bag the wrong way. Hope you notice this. 🥺
I just put it in with the hood. I no longer have the lens tho
@@Reggiebphoto thank you sir!
❤️
🔥
just bought one. omg.
Nice!
I love this lens, but not sure if the f2 will be enough on lower light conditions - do you use flash and other light equipement for the ring and cake shots? -
Yes those shots had flash
@@Reggiebphoto flashlight that attached with hotshoe or separated big flash with big diffuser??
Ring shots are led. Cake shot was flahs with umbrella I believe
I’ve been waiting for someone to review the new Viltrox 23mm 1.4 lens
Is it out already?
Reggie Ballesteros Not sure. It is available for purchase but I’m not sure if they’re shipping yet.
I’ve only seen the 33 so far
Where can I get your preset? It’s stunning.
reggiebphotography.com/fujifilm-preset/home-faded-film-preset-pack
Have u tried the 80 macro?
It’s on my list
I almost have enough to get the xf90... I need ti save a lil more. The only thing im worried about is having my iso and shutterspeed high for this lens most of the time on my xt3
Do your shoot a lot of low light?
@@Reggiebphoto maybe 35-45% of the time is low light. I dont shoot professionally. I think the lens is something i might need/want when im outdoors for the reach... And take portraits of my daughters family and friends.
Got it, the 90 or the 55-200 might be a couple good options
@@Reggiebphoto will the 90 be sharp at 125 shutterspeed handheld on cloudy overcast day?
Depends on the subject
My favourite Fuji lens.
Ishijah1 nice!
Reggie Ballesteros I brought it secondhand from Mpd.com absolutely magnificent on my X-H1
Mbp is great! And on the xh1 I’m sure the ibis is handy for the telephoto
Reggie Ballesteros Handy oh yes, I had X-T3 before I decided to purchased X-H1 now I hardly use X-T3.
Nice!
Can you please do a video of comparing the sharpest fuji lens with a Nikon prime lens
I don’t have any Nikon lenses available to compare with
I love my 56mm the most even though every photo with the 90mm has much faster AF and results in much sharper images. I don’t know why I feel that way but I’m grateful to have both
Same!
Please review the 80mm I don't see many ppl tAlk about it 🤷🏻♂️
I can add that to my list :)
i have both the 90mm and 80mm macro! 80mm is way more better that its versatile and i would only recommend the 90mm is to use for its f2 aperture during low light and other than that my 80mm out performs my 90mm and i just use my 90mm for travelling light because its a smaller lens plus it doesnt have ois like my 80mm or my 50-140mm zoom.
Great points!
If I were the groom, I would insist that you utilize the 90 f2. I don’t want you to miss any moments by hunting focus with the 56 f1.2 indoors.
That’s why I’m not your photographer lol
@@Reggiebphoto so you’re an “it’s my way or no way “ kind of photographer, eh?
No. I just believe every client finds the right photographer for them. If I’m not the right fit then no worries. I let them know and do my best to refer others who might be a better fit.
Please take a look at the Fuji 50mm F2 for review. No one ever talks about that lens.
I have it, and don’t use it very much.
I had one, send it to buy a 50-140
Now I thinking off doing the opposite :'(
Fabien Boogielup lol I’m sure you’re ok with the 50-140
Much mention on the 50-140 f2.8 in the comments - it feels like twice the weight of the 90 f2 in hand.. in my opinion. ;^D
Haha
You don't own the 80mm F2.8 Macro? ;)
Nope, I do not
