Who are Utopia Avenue?
Some background... I read David Mitchell's "Utopia Avenue" during the first lockdown in 2020. It's the story of a fictional folk rock group in the late 60's, who burn brightly over a brief period of time. And I found I really wanted to hear what on earth they sounded like. Badly.
"Surely someone has recorded some of the songs" I thought... they'll be on RUclips? Nope. So here is an "imagined" track that they might have recorded in San Francisco during their last session. Have I imagined this correctly? Would they have sounded like this? Let me know.
I'd like to say it took 2 years to research recording techniques and this track was recorded reel-to-reel only using vintage equipment, effects and instruments. That would be a lie.
About the song
"Up on Cloud 9" is a song detailing a well-written acid trip from the book. We took some poetic licence. Sorry! I put this together in April 2022, using friends from kompoz.com, the collaborative music community. Enjoy...

Creating this must have been so much fun. Firstly, the imagining; always my favourite part. Then playing around with the psychedelia of the video and music. Very creative.
I was in the same dilemma after reading the book, wanted so badly to hear what the songs sounded like and was hoping someone musically talented would have a video on RUclips... but alas none could be found. So this is fantastic and finally helped scratch the itch I've had since finishing the book. Would love to hear the other songs in the book!

bro could you please please please not put a (major) spoiler alert in the description? I've been reading the booking for the past few weeks now, into the final quarter and it's now been spoiled from reading the description. I imagine many others may come here who are currently reading the book
