My dad drove also a 124L 420 4x2, and that truck had also a loud turbo :-) He was always loaded 44 tons, with sugar in a bulk trailer, so the engine had enough work to do ;-)
scaniaman2006 R620 Indeed these engines are really powerful, nowadays my dad drives a R450 Euro 6, but the 124 420 Euro 3 pulled better than this new one! The new OptiCruise doesn't allow higher rpm's, it always shifts at 1500 rpm. Kick-downs aren't even possible. Before the R450 he also drove a R500 V8 Euro 4 (also with OptiCruise but that one allowed higher rpm's and kick-downs when needed) so he made a step backwards.

I have almost never seen an ERF as I live in Belgium ;-) BTW at what speed are trucks in the UK and Ireland limited by their speed limiter? Is it true that they are limited at 96 km/h?

BTW sounds like the Irish are a bit crazy :-D Tesco probably limits their trucks at 52 mph to reach a lower ful consumption and to get a good image for their customers. Coca-Cola limits their trucks at 80 km/h in Belgium, and they have a huge sticker on the back that says they do it for less CO2... Indeed the Euro 5's and everything before sounded better. But the New Generation V8 sounds quite good too.
