    This is how we all complement each other.💪🏻It was only this morning that I put out this video and I have already gotten help for the mysteries teasing me. What is Metamorphose Collection? What is Editions Oxymore? What is Bad Idea? How to translate titles?
    Big thank you for all the help🕺🥷🤖

    always great to see European comic magazines.

      I’d be fighting over those free copies of Zoo if such a thing would exist in Finland. For me the physical copy of a magazine would be much stronger marketing than similar email PDF for example.

    So happy that you had a great time & i cannot wait to see the full HAUL. You know that it would have been nice for you to maybe interview some of the Authors & Artists for your channel here and get some insight into the creators. Of course with you being a famous "comics influencer"😁 You could simply stroll up to the tables arrogantly and telling them that they are in the presence of the creator of ANALOG COMICS of RUclips. 🏆🎙🤩

      Haha😂It turned out the four bodyguards I hired were not needed. They claimed they didn’t know me but I’m sure they were just trolling🎅🏻
      Joking aside in depth meetings with creators would’ve required Press Pass. I hope my future video about the Festival itself explains the well oganized mayhem it was.
      I did already decide to re-visit Angouléme and then I’ll ask them what is required for getting the Press Pass. You never know unless you ask🤷🏼‍♂️

    Very nice haul. Les Royaumes Muets, literally The Mute Kingdoms. It always amazes me and makes oh so jealous the amount of good titles available just for French speaking readers. The international market have still too much to catch up, it my opinion.

      This is why it’s so great to have many comics fans connected💪🏻Thanks for the translation.
      I saw so many french comics I thought would be welcomed by readers from other countries. I have few absolute gems coming up in the next videos.😍

    I agree on thorgal. I wish the English editions were in hardcover. the series deserves the deluxe treatment

    • @analogcomics
      @analogcomics  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes! European album size collection of Thorgal would get my money. Then again it will get it in current format too🤔I’m only about 20% in to the saga so lots to read still.

    That magazine, Zoo le mag, is distributed in both regular and specialized book stores. There are a couple of other similar free magazines, Bamboo mag is another one.
    The term "collection" in the French speaking edition milieu is often used for imprints or labels within a publishing company. Think Vertigo or Black Label within DC.

    • @analogcomics
      @analogcomics  8 месяцев назад

      So much good information here my friend🫡Thank you so much.
      Since that is the distribution method for these sampling mags they’re also a reason for the customer to return to these brick & mortar stores. And when ever a comic book fan returns to a place selling comics they will take look at them. Everybody wins. Such a marvelous system but also underlines how active french comic book scene is compared to most other European(or any)countries.
      Now that Metamorphose Collection makes sense! It’s an imprint focusing on the darker and more gothic styled comics. Many of them looked like they were aimed at young teens. That’s an interesting idea and subgenre. Maybe it’s like a spin-off from the vampire theme that was so popular among teens some years ago. However it is Metamorphose Collection had many beautifully drawn books.

    I'm so jealous at you! :) I hope you had a fantastic time at the one and only comic book meeting worth visiting ;) One day I'll hopefully be there too, I cry myself to sleep every night by looking for the billions of French comics that I'll never be able to read :D I'm still arguing with me, myself and I if I will be starting to buy French Editions or not, if that happens then there are countries that needs to be robbed! :D
    Bad Idea comics are like most comic publishers from the US, totally clueless. They seem to have only a select few places where they sell their single issues. It's the speculators wet dream come through, or something. and like many other publishers they only do their collected editions through Kickstarters.
    Tomas Giorello did artwork for Valiant too and I think some of the guys "at the top" of Bad Idea might be the same persons from Valiant.

      Check @sleepyreader666 comment below. He has some info about the Bad Idea background. If that is all true it might that Bad Idea does all this just to mess with us😅They got me, I have to admit that.
      If you want to test Google Lensin’ french comics just get one first. Preferably something that concludes in one book. It’s more about getting used to reading like that than about the content or the story. Having said that it helps a lot if the comic is actually good. Maybe wait and see what I have still to show in this haul. There’s couple really good ones that I am already committed to.

    I let out a sigh of relief when you said Odin's eye was an American comic rather than European, as European comics are difficult to get here. Then I googled this book and realised the publishers wanted to make it as difficult as possible for me to get a copy, now I wish it was a European comic lol.

    • @analogcomics
      @analogcomics  8 месяцев назад

      It’s such an esoteric publisher. This is the first time I hear about Bad Idea. From the few interviews I found it’s still unclear if the rarity of their books and elusive answers are a byproduct or the whole thing. In one interview they said the company doesnt exist anymore and in other one they said more is coming from what they call Bad Idea 2.0🤷🏼‍♂️Since this all happens on US soil I dont think I’ll get my hands on anything they put out but maybe there’s something worth following for you?

    Thanks! There is so much lovely stuff (usually excellent price/binding!) from france… too bad my french is so bad. :( however, most time it‘s easy to translate. If you enjoy „kids friendly“ books with intriguing art you might consider „au chant de grenouilles, Sacré“ or the „Eco,“ series by illustrator Almanza. But be warned .. it‘s a rabbit hole :)

    • @analogcomics
      @analogcomics  8 месяцев назад

      I’ve been Google Lensing my way through these comics. I also find myself slowly starting to understand more and more french words.
      Funny you mentioned these comics. I did have a copy of ”au chant de grenouilles” in my hands. So beautiful art😍It was in fact at the same booth as Les Royaumes Muets. Not sure anymore why I didn’t buy it though…
      And later when searching info online I stumbled on ”Eco” as it was part of this mysterious Metamorphose Collection.

      Just got me „les chats“ and „les fantômes“ from the billy brouillard series. Awesome, lovely and funny art (Guillaume Bianco). Nice to learn french due pretty simple language. A few titles are available as Billy Fog in english. The Metamorphose collection is on my watchlist since. :)

    It seems that this publishing company "Editions Oxymore" started business just last year, not much about them.

      That is interesting info. I would’ve liked to interview staff on some stands but due to my trip being short I had to skip that. I spend 3 hours just drooling over the comics.😅

    Direct translation of Les Royaumes Muets= is The Mute Kingdoms. You could understand it as the Silent Kingdoms but its hard to translate accurately because its a typically French figure of speech (Hypallage) so there is some poetic content thats lost in translation

    • @analogcomics
      @analogcomics  8 месяцев назад +1

      That makes sense. It also explains why Lens wasn’t co-operating with the title. 🧐Now knowing the words and knowing the content I think I have better understanding of the multiple meanings of this title, too.
      Thanks for helping me out. Not sure if I should even mention this but having used Lens quite much now I’ve had occasionally desire to really learn french language.

      @@analogcomics That's really what is fascinating about art, even though i never red this BD i "got" the feeling of it just because of the tiny bit of evocative poetry in the title that spoke to me culturally. You on the other hand, didn't right away got the "poetic ambiance" content from the title but you still experienced the same thing i did through the artwork and story that i know nothing about, which is really absolute magic when you think about it!
      As for learning to read French with BD, thats basically how every French kid do it, i wouldn't be surprised if a SIGNIFICANT portion of my vocabulary and reading ability comes from reading countless albums when i was young. I actually don't think French is that hard to read (speaking is another thing probably) if you already read English there is probably already words you sort of recognize i would think.

    Bad Idea is a very weird publisher...the founders were the guys who sold Valiant to a Chinese company, and I guess they now have money to spare and they play games with the marketplace with their Bad Idea imprint...because of that you don't see many of their books in the average comic shop...I wouldn't be surprised if there's no collected edition in the USA...

    • @analogcomics
      @analogcomics  8 месяцев назад +1

      Well, that explains a lot😄After visiting their web site I had more questions than answers. It feels like they want to be elusive on purpose. Odinn’s Eye books are sold on ebay as very rare and small print. All 5 volumes as a set cost around $90. I feel like my purchase was happy accident as it lead me to find out about this quirky back story.
      Thanks for this info💪🏻I hope the mystery for the other books publisher is solved too.

      Beware the Eye of Odin is a different comic than The Eye of Odin! confusing...I was puzzling over it for a while...

    • @analogcomics
      @analogcomics  8 месяцев назад +2

      It seems this is different Odin’s Eye. I guess the Norse mythology is just attractive source for stories. Worked really well on last God Of War game too💪🏻
      English prints of the Odin story I showed here are available as second hand - with heavy price tag - on ebay. I cannot comment yet if the price is worth it as I haven’t read the french version.
