Only, the Maratha general refused to come to any kind of agreement with the fleeing Afghan army and fought to death because of patriotism, and this fact had been employed by British to create the false legend of an Indian defeat by the Afghan army. The legend of these camel mounted canons magically defeating the Maratha army after receiving heavy beating in the first three days is a false British Islamic narrative. Had the Maratha army been really defeated by Afghans in 1761, India would have bee an Islamic State by now. However, it is true that due the economic calamities imposed by the war, the Indian States did become weaker and the British eventually did come to power, but only after five more Anglo Maratha and Anglo Sikh wars over a period of atleast 50 to 60 years. The false narrative of an Indian defeat in 1761, was spun by the British and Islamic institutions to weaken the morale of Hindus.

The Maratha women were sold as slaves on the way back to Afghanistan by Abdali. So it’s a proper defeat. Around 70,000 Marathas were killed. Hardly any of them could return back.
