Thank you so much for the trail magic today at Stecoha Gap and for the trail maintainer Jamie sewing my shoulder harness back on. It made it through the day!
My son jammed his thumb playing basketball back in December, it’s still bruised! It was most of his hand but now it’s just the nail bed. I’ve never seen anything like it. I hope your finger heals quickly!!!
Northstar, sorry about the finger! TheOkie and I and our wives are planning to head out in April to do Trail Magic in the Carver Gap to Laurel Falls area. The Trail Magic we received lifted our spirits so much that it will be hard to ever repay the debt we owe.
Hey McDuck! That sounds awesome!! Carver’s Gap is right before Roan, right? We were spoiled by the hiking community. I agree, it will be hard to repay!
Good video. Be patient with the finger healing. Sometimes they re-break easily. If you two camp together in the cold, you need a 3 person tent and a blanket that covers both of you at the same time. An old Army woobie is perfect for this purpose. A tarp(poncho) over the tent will make it warmer too. When my wife and I were planing on hiking the AT in 1978, we bought matching sleeping bags that could zip together to help her sleep warmer. Have fun with the trail magic. Have plenty of cocoa mix packets. Good Luck, Rick
@@AudreyGibson573She was from Louisiana and needed my excess heat to be comfortable. If you go for a set, make sure the pads match too. Good Luck, Rick
Hoping your finger heals soon. I did the exact same thing when I was in high school on my BB team. Thank you so much for giving back to the trail. Unfortunately, I'll be through that area already by then. I would have loved to have met you!
Thanks for this update. I tripped at the end of December and I am still feeling an ache in my right shoulder. I don't know if I should get it checked. It is not too painful. Lovely to see you again. I enjoyed your AT hike.
I love 3rd grade! The 3rd graders cheer every time I step into their class to sub. Tell Joe to hold off on the ring until the swelling goes down. 😊. Did he let you tell him what equipment to buy? Tell us what he is bringing.
That finger looks really rough! Ouch! It’s really nice that you’re doing trail magic over Easter! It’s awesome that the community takes care of each other like that.
You are a tough teacher/ thru hiker . You have long fingers & the bruising was extensive. Love that you will be providing some trail magic in March on the AT. l may see you there. ❤😊
Ouch! 😮 Sorry to hear about that. I fell and hit my head and injured my foot in the tub 😅 The 2 doctors offices stressed i needed to go to the hospital. I've had a severe concussion before so i thought I was fine there but later when talking to the nurse on the phone realized my head was bleeding. So I ended up in the ER with a broken bone in my foot. They did a CAT scan of my head and neck and upper body and was pleased to hear that i didn't have a concussion, bleeding or fractures. Things kinda happen when you least expect it. 😅 That's really nice of you to do the trail magic. Hopefully your hand and finger heals soon. 🙏
I’m wanting to leave some trail magic at Allen Gap in Greeneville Tennessee, but not sure what time frame will be best for NOBO AT! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated
Hi Joy! I was near Allen Gap on April 10th (with a March 11th start date). The bubble was only slightly behind me. I think anytime in April would be great!
Your finger looks painful! Glad that didn't happen on your hike. Hope it heals soon. Exciting to do trail magic. The hikers will be happy! I'll miss you since I'll be hiking through there in late April. I think you and Joe will like the OT, especially if you do it during fall color. Have fun on the AT!
Basketball? Geez. Who woulda thunk it. Been there with fingers - many years ago, I stuck my hand in a snow blower and it made hamburger out of pieces of my fingers. That was back in 1976 - I was old enough to know better. As hikers and backpackers say, "Never put your hand where you can't see." Thanks for the trail magic. Be well, stay safe. 🥾
I also became a teacher because of my 2 nd grade teacher. I am still in touch with her! Several members of my 2nd grade class attended our teacher’s 80 th birthday party! She’s maybe 83 or 4 now and we talk often!! Loved teaching for 30 years. Taught K-3 but 2 nd was my favorite!!😍

Thanks Jack! I appreciate it. What do you have going on this year? Any adventures you’re planning?
@@AudreyGibson573 Oh... some involving the various forms of football, and the ocean. #NoSpoilersHere
We may try come join you in NC! Hope your finger heals up!
That sounds great, Darrell! Tentatively thinking we’ll set up by 10am to serve a cooked lunch with the snacks/fruit/packaged stuff
Congrats on your teaching move!! 10 years is crazy! Time flies.
Thanks! It’s crazy to think I’ve been in it for that long.
Nice to see you doing trail magic and giving back, have fun, I’m sure you will be an encouragement to the hikers. 🎅

Friday, February 16th: Hope you are feeling better. You got this! Happy Trails! Ross08
I hope your stay at Standing Bear will be better than in 2023! 😝 I was thankful you were in the bunkhouse too.
That bruising was gnarly!!
For sure!

Good thing you didn't have a ring on that finger.💍
