Sounds like a potentially invaluable and minimally invasive tool for matching a patient with a medication that will be the most effective and appropriate for his or her condition. Since the Pharmacogenomics program is in the development stage, a patient willing to give it a try should carry an in-depth discussion with his or her physician to ensure that the recommended medication is one that has been tested and is already in extensive use, with minimal side effects. As a longtime customer of the VA who's had very good experience with the organization's medical services, I'd be willing to give pharmacogenomics a try, after discussing the process with a knowledgeable VA medical professional.

Maybe this will keep them from being on 20 different medications

My VA primary care doctor said she has not heard anything about this genetics testing. She will inquire from upper-level management about this

Same with my VA. They insist I have to tell them which meds I have a reaction to or the test will be canceled. IMHO it seems like this info hasn't been distributed to the VA people or they just don't read their email. I emailed the visn4pharmacogenomicsteam for advise 2 days ago but have not received a response.

Sounds like a great idea. Anything that helps is good for me.

This sounds like it would be good. I had a prescription that didn't work with me so this sounds like it might help. Thanks!
