you are so smart doing something like that, I just order the x-carve pro 2 hours ago and I came across with your video its amazing what you did. I hope you make another video about the x-carve pro. thank you for your amazing skilled.
Mortgage & Mitre do you sell the KJ sawdust cutout? I need one on my shop... “Hey KJ! Is this enough green tape?....(silence)...ah... what do you know anyways KJ!”
I just finished the 1800 x 1000 upgrade myself and now I wish I had raised the gantry at the same time. Oh well maybe next time. posted a set of videoes but sound was not great, need to work on my video editing skills. Great video on the upgrade I will definatly check out some of your other stuff. Thanks
What are your thoughts on using the 1000mm rails since the 800mm rails aren’t available anymore? Just trying to figure out some options. Please any help would be much appreciated
Awesome! Your video was the final step for me to get the Xcarve. It was just then to realize it is hard to get the makershift extrusions though. However, I found a shop who sells exactly those extrusions up to 6 m length. Yes. Six! (236'') So my plan is to have my y axis 3m / ~118'' long. I am just wondering if the belts will have too much tension being that long. However, I will use 9mm GT2 anyway. What did you do with your belts? Did you leave the 7mm or did you get the 9mm? Cheers!
Excellent video and write up! I just got my XCarve and still assembling but I wanted to go ahead and do this, I clicked on your link for the Instructables to find the parts needed for the upgrade, but it looks like the parts arent on Inventables website any more?
Love this. This makes so many things possible. I went to buy the 1800 mm maker slides but inventables no longer sells them. Does anyone know another place to get 1500mm or 1800mm maker slide rails?? Or an alternative? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Awesome upgrade, Kris - can't wait to see what you make with all the additional capacity! Step 1 in my X-Carve upgrade probably should be to get an X-Carve?!
Hello Kris, Can you please share with me where you got the rails to upgrade your XCarve? Check with Inventables , TBD and another company Inventables recommended and that company said they no longer Make them rails. Thanks for you help.
I got them from Inventables, but that was over a year ago. I’m surprised they stopped selling them. Open builds might have something. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
I could do bigger, but I have found that this being a belt driven CNC, It’s kind of at its max. It’s no less accurate as a regular sized cnc, there’s just a few more variables to keep it stepping the right away
I'm going to be purchasing the 1000x1000 XCarve but will want to extend it however I don't see the 1800mm slides listed on the inventables website anymore. Is there another place they can be purchased?
@@furthernorthfab ... Thanks for the tip. I'm a little concerned that inventables will be focusing on their pro series and not their regular x-carve. They only have the 1000x1000 model and it seems that they are parsing upgrades, etc. Am I overthinking? I'd hate to invest into a system like this only to have it discontinue... :/
I recently purchased a 1000 mm x-carve from someone and never even hooked it up yet. I would love to do this upgrade before I get started. Where can I get these parts from?
Casey Huber if you do a google search for 1800mm Maker slide, you might be able to still find it. I know some guys have attached two 1000mm Maker slide together
So Inventable$ doesnt carry 1800mm maker slide anymore to try and push business to their "pro" machines. Sad. Was going to pick one up used to make building skis more convenient but I guess I'll keep saving for a larger, better built machine.
@@furthernorthfab Awesome. Thanks for the quick fix. I love your videos. This one is exciting for me. I bought a used x-carve late last year and I'm already having a hard time limiting myself by material size. So many big ideas!
Please please share if you do this upgrade!!! Even to get the extra few inches is worth it. I needed slightly larger templates for my bed build, which would not have been possible without this upgrade
Xcarve is junk nowadays...you need to check out the bulkman 3d queenbee pro 1500mmx1500mm its huge and way way better than xcarve snd lower priced per sqft.
Yeah, it’s not what it used to be... I think Inventables realizes that as well. Hence the new Xcarve pro, that that thing is $$$. One day I’ll upgrade, that’s for pointing out the Bulkman. I’ll check it out. Onefinity has a great new machine as well
dont get me wrong....your cnc machine is nice but not stock which can not be compared to stock at all.....i refer to stock when i compare machines...yes xcarve was an ok option way back in 2014/15 when nothing else was out however nowadays its just not a good option and is simply junk..xcarve was never and i repaeat never a good machine..it was just a good option compared to what was avail at the time..its always been junk....onefinity is definitely better design than xcarve but is a bit pricey and way underpowered and has no bed/structure..i would never buy it as it is currently. as far as xcarve pro.....a big joke...and laughable. $12k come on anyone brainwashed enough to buy it deserves to buy it.
I am glad someone is willing to upgrade the x carve. I make signs and love the upgrade. I think I now know my summer project. Thanks
Hopefully the written instructions are helpful!
Whoa. Let's just take a minute to appreciate that 'hidden' drill press. Innovative!
Thanks, Ryan. I go into more detail in my miter saw station build about this.
@@furthernorthfab Right on. Thanks for the tip. I'll be checking that out.

Thanks, Christian. Enjoy the X-Carve Pro! It’s a beautiful machine.
I was more excited about the drill press setup you have. But still a great upgrade. Good Job
Wow Kris, this thing is bananas!! Makes me want to get an X-Carve now LOL
Do it!!!
great video, I am looking to upgrade my 500 to 1800x750 and this gave me great ideas and inspiration.
Great, Mark. Please share when you do your upgrades
Awesome bro! It’s almost big enough to make a full-sized cutout of me now!
Who says I haven’t already?
Mortgage & Mitre do you sell the KJ sawdust cutout? I need one on my shop... “Hey KJ! Is this enough green tape?....(silence)...ah... what do you know anyways KJ!”
Level up! Cool upgrade Kris. Capacity is always a nice thing to have.

Never to late to raise the gantry 👍. Thanks for checking out my work.
This x-carve definitely does not suck(it)!
Haha. Well played, sir. It’s kind of a big deal.
This looks great! Don't have the space for this in my shop, but could definitely see the need for it arising later.
I’m lucky to have an understanding and supportive wife. It’s in my basement. Haha.
What are your thoughts on using the 1000mm rails since the 800mm rails aren’t available anymore? Just trying to figure out some options. Please any help would be much appreciated
I think I replied to your other comment. I’ve seen guys join two rails together and have success with that
I need to do this to mine. Thx for sharing

I’ll eventually go to the 9mm. Thanks for watching.
Where can one buy the 1800mm rails now that inventables do not make them anymore?
Really cool, Kris! I love how you made the ole one carve out some of the parts for the new one. Kind of a cannibalistic vibe. ha ha
Haha. Didn’t even think of it that way, but you’re totally right
Was that sign at the end for you, Bruce? haha
AC Nailed It if only! Ha ha
It’ll pay for itself, guys. I promise you that.

Very nice job sir! 👊🏼
It’s no Axiom CNC, but it’ll do 😜
Mortgage & Mitre Yeah, but you beat me out in overall length now! You’ve definitely got quite the cutting area.
What are the dimensions of the X-axis black aluminum profile?
Perfect !! Thank you Brother.
Don't you want to upgrade your belt? not too good for cutting aluminum, is it for you a strong belt to cut aluminum?
The files from inventables are missing. Can you please update them?
But it's not a x curve anymore 😁😁🤣 Nicely done.
Don’t tell Inventables 😜
Invalidated warranty now!!
I’m my own warranty now!
@@furthernorthfab Exactly.....👍👍
I need to do this ASAP.
what would be the work area of 1500mm rails? How are people connecting two together? Thank You for the Video!!
I’ve seen lots of people connect two pieces together. I think Openbuilds sells hardware to do it
Have you upgraded to the new x-carve? If so... how did you deal with the short cables, etc?
I have not and have not intentions too. This as is makes the perfect CNC for me, but I would like to update the dust collection
Ordered my parts. I'm going for a 9-foot machine that sits on the floor. Wish me luck.
Sweet!!! Send me pics on IG when it’s done
What about the wiring? Was it long enough? I have 2000mm rails I'm thinking about using.
I moved the wires for the controller towards the middle of where it would travel so I had enough wire
i just bouth 18 gage cable and made every single one longer
hi. what is your timing belt for this length. I want to make 2.5 meter X axis CNC, what type of timing belt I use is normal??
Have a look at the article in the description. It has a list of the parts I used
Great video a quick question. Cut you cut mdf 18mm deep?
With the right bit, this could cut more then 50mm deep
Can we use NEMA 23 , 7.2 kg motor

Man how much would u charge to do the upgrades I have the 1800mm, I know I won’t be able to do it plus the pro is too expensive
Not really something I want to get into, it I see where you’re coming from.
When will you be reviewing the new xcarve pro $12,000 version?.
When I have an extra $12000 kicking around. Haha
Great build!!! I'm up in Canada too, where did you buy your x-carve from?? Direct the shipping is close to $400!!
Nichoals Field there is a few things you can do to lower the cost. Feel free to email me or dm me on Instagram if you need help
Could you go any bigger? Also does making bigger affect the precision of the cut/carving?
I could do bigger, but I have found that this being a belt driven CNC, It’s kind of at its max. It’s no less accurate as a regular sized cnc, there’s just a few more variables to keep it stepping the right away
Do you still have the easel project files for the risers? It seems inventables has taken them down.
It should be in the Intractable link in the description
@Mortgage and Mitre, have you done any large carvings yet? On the larger stuff have you had trouble with bits breaking during the cut? Cool mod!!!
So I’ve carved a 5 foot sign and made a few big MDF templates with it so far.
Did you do it in one pass or did you have to switch bits at all? Thanks for the response!
3:43 😲😲😲😬
Good job now you can make bigger selves and other projects.
The 1800mm maker slide does not look to be available on the Inventables site. Is there anywhere else to get it from?
Tbdcnc might have them. I’m not sure why Inventables stopped selling them.
I have been looking for good instructions on how to do this as I would like to order everything all at once.
It’s all in the article and the link from Inventables should have all the parts you can add to the cart in one shot 👍

I think they did. I’ve seen other guys connect two 1000mm rails together to come up with the same results
What kind of fitting are they using to join two pieces of rail?
New subscriber. . Can you carve out designs on fullsize wood doors ??
Almost a full sized door, Mark. Now that you say it, it makes me want to try.

Nice....
Kris, The links you provided for the material needed from XCarve no longer works.
eric holder I’m not sure what to say. It’s like Inventables removed it... even from my end it won’t open anymore
Is there a way to make an Xcarve 1800x1800?
I’m sure there is if you reinforce the gantry
Where can I find all the parts for this upgrade? Your link through Inventables isn't good anymore.

About 75% of the upgrade components aren’t available anymore.
A lot of guys are now just combined 2 1000 mm rails to come up with the same results
