I started with the podcast. I like the video so much better because you have things to show. I use it as a sit down break from doing more physical things. I get a beverage and just sit back and enjoy. Billy does a great job. Wishing your whole family a healthy and fun year.
Thank you ladies and Billy for a great podcast!!! I listen to you while cutting fabric or even sewing but I have to pause it because I don’t want to miss anything!! I love all of the goals, I may need to copy some for myself. Thanks for all that you all do, I appreciate you!!
Really enjoyed your thought process for goal setting. In the past I didn’t focus on personal goal setting, as I was so focused on work goals. This segment is an inspiration and now that I have retired, I will begin to set attainable goals for 2021! Thank you sew much. Enjoyed seeing a glimpse of Billy! 🧵
Thank you! I happened upon your tutorial for making pot holders just before Christmas. I helped my granddaughters make one for their mom - they put them in her stocking - such a great time and gift!
Chelsea, talking about 10min time w the kids... I have 3 step daughters and I love whenever they come home from their Mom’s house. We always just visit and talk for about 15- 30min when they first come home, before they go running off to their rooms, and I love that time so much! My girls are so sweet and funny and that they would just want to stand around and catch up with me and goof around a little just blesses my heart every time! If any of you have not been taking the extra time to just talk to your kids and listen to their young hearts, make an effort to change that this year. It might start slow, but you will be so blessed when it finally becomes the norm and you see them begin to enjoy it. Thank you Sherri and Chelsea! This was so incredibly helpful for me! God’s mighty blessings to you!
Thank you both for this type of podcast. I have struggled with goal planning but decided this is the year to get my act together! I'll be watching this again and taking notes this time. So much great information.
Thank you for all you do - Sherri, Chelsi and Billy! You don't know how we enjoy sitting and listening to your podcast, and especially enjoy that it is on a Monday morning. Both my husband and I sit with coffee in hand and enjoy this 'chat' time with you. (Yes, my husband has started to enjoy learning more about my quilting interests, so it is great to share this with him. He doesn't sew, but will often have suggestions now, with layout or colourway, which is fun for me). Enjoyed hearing the goals you have set for 2021, and will adapt some of them for myself in this new year.
Thanks to all three of you for your work and dedication to providing this for us. I know it’s a lot of work because I’ve done a few RUclips videos to share what I’m doing and what I’ve learned from my recently deceased mother and it’s not always easy to stay committed when you’re still trying to go about a daily life. I’ve always been a planner and I think I’m going to also have more grace and patience with myself. I journal daily every morning and plan my day and it’s nice and peaceful:)
I normally listen to your podcast as I sew but I decided to watch tonight. Enjoy both! After this past year the only goal I have is to just be grateful in general. Quilting goal is to slow down on projects and enjoy them more. I started on my winter project last night. I’m making a big Apple Core quilt. Never have sewn on a curve before so it’ll be interesting!
Thank You Billy for doing the behind the scenes and bring me and others The Quilting Life. Your voice is so smooth it is a radio voice. Sherri and Chelsi Thank You for the work you do to keep us inform about your new patterns and materials coming out and the different books to read or journals in and record our progress to keep us going. Love the quilting journal and have bought 2. Hope I remember to write in them this year they look so nice inside. I'm like Chelsi I have written down many of you guys things to put in place this year and I really like. Stay Safe till the next time
Wow! That was the best podcast! Thanks for doing these! This one helped me focus on what I was trying to accomplish this year with my planning!! You are all amazing!!!
Thank you for sharing all your personal goals. They are all good suggestions for me and for all quilters. It’s been a tough year for so many but your podcasts were always something to look forward to. Keep smiling and good luck with your personal goals of 2021.
Sherri and Chelsi are fortunate to have Billy overseeing their podcast process. This kicks up the quality so much! Your quilting podcast is one of the best soundwise and visually; and of course the content is delightful! Thank you for listing special items you mention....so helpful. Happy New Year!
Your goal on marketing to build your brand is perfect. You are both very business-savvy women and as delightful as you both are to listen to, watch, and learn from, you are here for a purpose; building your brand. Planning products, designing the products, the media surrounding the products, delivery of the products, and social media all take time and making these moves strategic can become seamless because both of you have remained so natural in your delivery.
I sew appreciate A Quilting Life in all formats - the podcast, RUclips, the blog and both Etsy shops. 2020 was a difficult year for all but the blessing of 2020 for me was finding you! Thank you for all that you give to all the makers out there. Blessings to you all❤️
I loved listening to both of you and your goals for the year. I'm planning on implementing a few of them too. I especially loved Chelsea's comment that you shouldn't look look at your phone until you've done 3 things. I am so guilty of getting sucked into an electronic vortex! Thank you Billy for your expertise. I always love listening to your thoughtful comments.
Found “A Quilting Life” a couple months ago and always eager to hear/watch what’s next. Hearing you share your goals-not resolutions-is so helpful and encouraging! I just got out my own pen & planner to work on my own hopes & thoughts for 2021. Thank you for every inspiring video.
Happy New Year, Sherri and Chelsi! My desktop computer is my biggest morning draw, not my cell phone. Today, based upon your advice, I did several things before using my computer. Felt great about my accomplishments. I also like your suggestion about reading a book for 21 minutes a day. I used to read a lot but haven't had time lately. Now, I'll attempt to "make time." Thank you!
love your podcast! I watch it on youtube so I don't miss any visuals! And I truly love that your family is involved. Thank you all for all you do for our community!
Thank you McConnell family. I hardly ever watched youtube or had read any blogs until participating in the Fat Quarter shop jelly snowflake mystery quilt. I started watching Kimberly and through that quiltalong I found you. I’ve been going back reading and watching previous A Quilting Life videos and blogs and have found great inspiration. Along with you and Kimberly I’ve added Lori Holt to my youtube viewing but keep it there...just you three. I also limit my fb viewing to a few days a week. RUclips and fb can definitely lead you down some rabbit holes and is such a time waster, really it’s no different than sitting in front of a television set all day. Wishing you many blessings 🙏 and a happy healthy New Year 🥳
Sherri, I purchased 4 of your quilting planners before Christmas, and I love it!! I kept one, then I gifted my 2 daughters each with one who both are new to quilting, ages 24 & 26, and the last one to my mother-in-law, who is getting back into quilting. I love its not dated which they did as well. The other night, I sat down in my sewing room and filled out my ruler and pattern inventory...sew helpful! I have double purchased items before. Its small enough to take to the quilt store, or keep next to your computer when you're ordering supplies to cross reference to make sure you don't already have it, or to make sure you buy the right size. For instance, in my Amazon cart, I had the log cabin ruler for both the 6" & 12" (which I noticed from my planner I already had), that I meant to get a different size. I am going to start journaling as well and adding pictures, who I gifted it to, the collection. I used, and (I'm stealing this idea from my oldest), including the cost to make the quilt and time so if I want to make it again, or want to make a quilt in a certain time or certain budget, I'll have that to refer back to. love your YT channel, and your kids. We would love to get to "see" more of Billy too. -Robin Voak, Magnolia, DE.
Linda S I very much enjoy your podcasts. The “family” atmosphere is such a plus and so personal in a very comforting way. Love the new year goals ideas and like Chelsi, I have been writing down all the great ideas to help me get organized for the new year. I am anxiously awaiting my new A Quilting Life Planner that’s on it’s way.
I look forward to every one of your podcasts; I really like watching on RUclips. I appreciate your ideas and all of the work each of you put into it! Thank you!
I’ve been sewing since I was 9, but just started quilting this fall. I’ve read all of Sherri’s blog through June 2018, and am working my way through your RUclips channel and podcast. Thanks to Sherri and Chelsi for all the content and to Billy for your tech work on all. Looking forward to a great 2021 and a quilt for myself from Balboa.
Thank you, thank you! I needed this podcast! I have been so non-intentional and a time-waster! Both of your goals have been so well articulated and I am so ready to begin sorting out the various parts of my life in an intentional and productive way! Much gratitude to you!
I loved this episode!!! I loved that it was longer! I felt like I was really able to settle in with a cup of coffee and enjoy the conversation just like I was sitting at the table with you.
I'm bingeing your videos. This was so hilarious, Chelsi, regarding wasting time on social media: "...and all of a sudden your learning how to make pies." LOL I'm really loving this chat about setting goals.
Love this episode! So ready to get myself together this year. I need to organize my time to sew, spending time with parents and home time with hubby. I have a sewing business, so this past weekend I have started on my scraps - I think I will start with the hour per week - you would be surprised at how much you can get done. I also cleaned out/shredded old paperwork last week - you feel so much better having a plan!! Thanks for all the good advise and Happy New Year to you both!!
Very good information on setting goals. I do not make resolutions. I enjoy listening as well as watching your interactions to each other. Mother and daughter team, for the win!
I love this podcast and have ordered the gratitude journal. It’s a wonderful idea. Looking forward to your next one as your podcasts are a favorite. I love how you incorporate life into quilting
Thanks for the thought-provoking content. I have been listening to Gretchen for several years and am on board with the reading challenge but also want the something similar to spark my creativity. Someone told me that just spending five minutes in my craft room a day will help even if I don't actually do anything. Any ideas you have for keeping creativity flowing would be appreciated.
Just love your podcasts and now your blogs. Just a comment, I know you completed 30 bed size tops in 2020 but you have a quilter to do the quilting. I think most of us at home quilters can not afford to have many quilts professionally quilted so I think most need to learn to free motion simple designs on their quilts. I have done up to a queen size on my Bernina. I love the Northshore pattern and just ordered it along with your planner. Hope we all have a great quilting 2021.
Happy New Year to you both!!! I bought the bloomtopia last year and my goal this year is to get it completed for my daughters gift from nursing School. Wish me luck!
Great episode! I usually do not write goals or plans, but just keep them in mind each day. Today while listening I actually wrote a detailed January plan. So here goes let's see if I can keep this going. Also excited for you to be back to your normal format.
Thank you so much for introducing me to so many planning and productivity resources. I had already read Gretchen’s “read 21 minutes in 2021” and had set a goal to read something to enhance my spiritual life every day for at least 21 minutes. So many of the strategies you have introduced for productivity in sewing were things I used in my work. I didn’t think I needed them anymore since I’ve retired but discovered they work just as well in managing this precious time and resonates well with me! Thank you for sharing your creativity, life lessons, and yourselves so freely! I feel as if I’m sitting down to talk with dear friends! On your next podcast, would you kindly answer the question of what you do with your leftover batting scraps? I sew mine back together using a multi-stitch zig zag but am wondering “how small is too small?” What should just be discarded? Wishing you many blessings and much success in this new year!
Thanks for the good broadcasts. Do you remember when you got your new microphones and they made you so happy for working together and seeing how they worked. It has been fun to get to know you both. I love that you are a mother-daughter team and get along so famously. It must be the best feeling to work together. I do want to follow you BOM this year. I did my first one last year. and it turned out great. You can get me started for this year. I love Churn Dash anyway. So that was exciting to see you use it for January. Now I have to decide what fabrics will work for it. Always a lot of projects. My big goal this year is to do more machine quilting. l I only have my regular machine Not a long arm. So it really takes thought and planning for each one. Keep it up.!!!
I'm becoming a huge fan of your podcasts. This one was especially special and loved your introductions to your goals. I need to sit down and do this. I too dislike the use of the word "resolutions" and like goals much more. Here's to a great 2021 no matter what your goals are!
Please share the name of the quilt on the ladder, I have seen it in a few of your videos and absolutely love it! Also, my girlfriends and I followed your year end review, gave ourselves homework from the blog/video and had a great lunch while discussing each of the questions. Now, after viewing this podcast, we can set and share our goals for the year! Thank you.
Such good ideas! Thank you! I’d love to hear more about your reference bullet journal! What types of things you add in and how do you set it up? It’s such a good idea! I have a planner...but as you said at the end of the year it goes in a drawer and then all those notes disappear too!
I don’t do resolutions either and I don’t pick a word for the year. I just try to do the best I can on a daily basis regardless of the date. I take each day as it comes. The one thing I’m going to attempt to do is journal my quilt projects. I’m terrible at writing but when I look back I don’t know what I’ve accomplished because I give so many quilts away I forget what I’ve done. I was thinking of taking a Polaroid of each make and adding it to my book, I also need to remember who I gave it to.
Polaroid get dull overtime. If I may suggest make an account on Instagram and add all your projects and also mention where it is going. You can keep it private and it won’t get lost.
Enjoy your podcasts so much. I like that Billy interjects someto too - you are all so genuine. Do you both actually quilt and bind your own quilts? Have a wonderful positive year. (I am finally putting together my blocks from Sherri's 2020 BOM. THANKS IT WAS FUN!
I started just listening to you guys on a podcast. Because I wasn’t a podcast listener. And thought a quilt podcast! That is just what I was looking for. But that didn’t work out because I needed to see the quilts you were talking about. Lol So now only watch you on RUclips. I only really started this year watching RUclips daily. But you guys have been two of the people I really enjoy watching. You have a lot of tips and ideas that make me think. And realize maybe I should be more intentional or more of a plan on what projects I work on. Unfortunately, I want to make all of the projects! I do sew while watching. Sherri, I did get your monthly planner and although I haven’t put a single mark in it yet, i will get to it ( it’s just so pretty, I don’t want to ruin it). I see now you have a quarterly add on. Can you explain that a little bit? What is different between the add on and your planner. Thank you again for all your inspiration and time.
I have a few questions... first of all I loved watching this on RUclips video (podcast I guess it's called). 1. My first question might be geared towards Billy, but any help would be appreciated . You mentioned listening to pod casts while walking his dog, etc. And i have heard other people talk about listening to pod casts while doing their quilting, etc. I did a google search to find out more about listening to pod casts and all i can find is vague info. on how to record one for yourself, and bits of info. here and there but it's still not clear to me. I bought this little device last year and could find no place to download pod casts from. Then on this little device i bought, i found no way to set up a library to find them, even if I could download them. So my question is. what device are you using to listen to podcasts on, where do you download the podcasts from, and how do you organize them so that you can listen to the ones you want to listen to, while doing things? 2. How do you organize and schedule in your busn. aspects. For example , how many days do you dedicate to designing your fabric, or how many days do you work on the pattern design, or dedicate to act. construction of your quilts, etc.
Enjoying your podcast. I am new to the quilting world and am curious how is it that you make money doing this? I know an etsy shop would produce income but are there any other ways to produce an income with quilting?
Personally, I think 2-3 times a week is best. More than that can dilute the value of the information. (Maybe when I no longer work full time I may feel differently.)
If you click "show more" under the video...there are links that will take you to the blogs, the show notes page, and everything we talk about in the podcast.
I started with the podcast. I like the video so much better because you have things to show. I use it as a sit down break from doing more physical things. I get a beverage and just sit back and enjoy.
Billy does a great job. Wishing your whole family a healthy and fun year.
I love that your businesses are family affairs! You are great role models for others. Enjoyed the podcast!
Thank you ladies and Billy for a great podcast!!! I listen to you while cutting fabric or even sewing but I have to pause it because I don’t want to miss anything!! I love all of the goals, I may need to copy some for myself. Thanks for all that you all do, I appreciate you!!

Love you guys. Love the family dynamic you have. Thanks for such an upbeat show.

This past year I get up a half hour earlier than I need so I can sew a half before going to work. I love it.
Great start to 2021. I will have to watch/listen too again soI can jot down all the valuable info you expressed. Thanks
Really enjoy watching the podcasts. Thank you for all you do. We finally got a quick glimpse of Billy. Yay!

I very much enjoy your podcasts. The “family” atmosphere is such a plus and so personal in a very comforting way. Love the new year goals ideas and like Chelsi, I have been writing down all the great ideas to help me get organized for the new year. I am anxiously awaiting my new A Quilting Life Planner that’s on it’s way.
I can hardly wait for your quilt to show up in American Patchwork and Quilt as I a subscription with that magazine.

Very good information on setting goals. I do not make resolutions. I enjoy listening as well as watching your interactions to each other. Mother and daughter team, for the win!

Yay! A Billy sighting!!!
Loved this episode and all three of you add so much info! Thank you. Chelsi, would love to read about small projects with some of your blocks.

On your next podcast, would you kindly answer the question of what you do with your leftover batting scraps? I sew mine back together using a multi-stitch zig zag but am wondering “how small is too small?” What should just be discarded?
Wishing you many blessings and much success in this new year!
Happy New Year!!!!
I loved this episode so much! ❤️Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you.
It's my Beach House Row Quilt...pattern is available now, and I'll be doing a sew along with the pattern this spring here on the RUclips channel :)
Such good ideas! Thank you! I’d love to hear more about your reference bullet journal! What types of things you add in and how do you set it up? It’s such a good idea! I have a planner...but as you said at the end of the year it goes in a drawer and then all those notes disappear too!
I so enjoy these RUclips videos and thank you for doingthem1
Happy New Year really enjoyed this podcast
I love the walk. about fabruc
Such a great idea to listen to this podcast while doing something else like cutting out fabric. My goal is better time management too.
Gee Chelsi, I think I’ll borrow your goals. (Why re-invent the wheel?) I love them, and they are achievable.
I just found you guys and I’m so excited! Love your podcast ❤️
I would like to see more of your quilts with multi-sizing.
What are the goals for the RUclips version of the podcast? I enjoy watching on RUclips and tune in regularly.
On my iPad RUclips app, click the little down arrow (triangle) to access notes and links.
Can you tell me where you sign up for your new block a month quilt? Do you have kits made up? Thank you !
I will have all of the information on the blog Thursday...and there may be a few extra kits in the shop that day :)
Yes to Billy's plan to only use ads for businesses that y'all actually use!
Enjoying your podcast. I am new to the quilting world and am curious how is it that you make money doing this? I know an etsy shop would produce income but are there any other ways to produce an income with quilting?
I have a jelly roll of harpers garden, what is an easy pattern for a beginner I can make?
I understand.....less scrolling more doing.
Personally, I think 2-3 times a week is best. More than that can dilute the value of the information.
(Maybe when I no longer work full time I may feel differently.)
Can you explain what the bias is and how it affects my quilts?
What app could I download for podcast, where I can hear Quilting Life on?
I use Apple Podcasts, but a lot of my friends use Stitcher. There are links to the different podcast apps on the show notes page.
Thank you.
Ocean side is a dorable
