It helps if you eat breakfast at 6:00 and lunch at noon 😀 I've seen a lot of Walkaway dress videos, and yours by far is the nicest! Most of them have a 1950s house dress feel, a bit cheap and tacky. [Doesn't help that my mom wore house dresses like that in the 1960s.] Your fabric choice and keeping the bias binding on the inside, really elevates the dress into something worth a lunch out.
Thank you so much! Before I tackled this one, I watched a ton of the different challenge videos and asked myself how could I make this more wearable for me? The contrast in bias vs. the fashion fabric was a biggie-- I realized that I tend to like to see more of a gentle contrast or none at all (see this dress I made back in 2016 - ruclips.net/video/59mrbbS1GPk/видео.html ) and decided for more of a chic look with this one. I think this would be cool in a novelty print, though-- and in that case would probably make it hyper contrast and make it fun, a la Ms. Frizzle!
For 4 hours work that dress looks fantastic. It is the most wearable Walkaway Dress I have seen. I might actually finally make one. Your pattern adjustments and fabric choice really make it work. I could feel your stress (and back ache) every minute - I don't think you had any fun on this one. I always learn something from your videos. Thank you.
Thanks so much for watching! I had soooome fun (haha!) but it was definitely a project that reminded me that I'm absolutely a slow sewist and I should embrace that 💖 Hope you have more fun with your dress- the design really leaves a lot of room for interpretation and really making it your own!
You did great! I too am a time optimist and always miss my holiday dreas deadlines so I actually started intentionally starting my holiday dresses either during or AFTER the holiday. 1) seasonal fabric goes on sale, 2) I feel less sad 3)REALLY EARLY for next year 🤣
I love your more modern take on this dress. I think it's beautiful. I am a slow, intentional sewist, and I already know I would never be able to finish the dress in three hours.
The finished product looks great, one of the best for fit and finish. I like that you used all the same fabric and didn't finish with bias tape. Thanks for sharing!
I think you did win your challenge because if you think that in those days, husband and kids would be out of the door by 8 and lunch at 12, that is 4 hours and not 3.
I think you did a great job despite not achieving the 3 hour time frame. 4 hours is still very impressive to put a piece together! Great to see your content after so long~ 💜
Your version is the best I’ve seen in this challenge ❤ However I don’t know how they can claim this dress can be done in a short amount of time because it being a circle skirt alone they’re aware you need 24 hours for it to set sooooo they’re kinda setting people up for failure if you ask me😂
That was exactly what I thought from the start!! In the end, the waiting the extra time worked out-- I got to adjust the skirt quite a bit after it hung for a day!
Keep in mind, the *sewing* is a 4 hour project...not the cutting, pressing, etc. The 1920s "one hour dress" literally has NO FINISHED SEAMS other than maybe the hem. The rest are just turned in and tacked swags. You crushed it!
I mean in all fairness you should have gotten an extra 2 hours for cat management alone. lol I'd say 4 hours to make it was still really good. It turned out so pretty!!! You all are wearing me down and I think imma have to do it one day. lol
I love that phrase ‘I’m a time optimist’! That is me all over- completely underestimating the time it takes to anything! As I’ve got older I do build in time contingency to daily life but perhaps we should just concentrate on optimisation part of our character. Also the finished dress looks great on you. 😊
Time Optimism is absolutely real- it wasn't until Jose pointed it out to me that I even realized how notoriously bad I am at managing my sewing time haha What sorts of tips do you have for building time contingency once you're sewing? Definitely curious to hear what works for you! Thank you for watching!
@@VintageonTap Oh I have time keeping issues in all areas of my life! I did have a couple of Aha moments while on a coaching course ( the answer to problems/issues/challenges is alway within you, you need the right questions to draw it out). Firstly when we were doing role play around coaching - when I was the one being coached I talked about my poor time keeping and the then coach asked me how I felt about not turning up on time- ‘ I feel like I’m letting myself down’ -saying those words out loud made me have quite an emotional response. It gave me the kick up the backside to make some changes. On the same course I had another clarifying moment regarding sewing. I was talking about sewing and bemoaning how I struggled to find time to do it. I was asked what is one thing you could change so you could get more sewing done. Again so damn obvious- when I’m on a day off, the first thing after the necessary morning stuff is to do sewing, otherwise it gets pushed further into the day and then falls off the daily list altogether! Regarding contingency when sewing- I have sewed so many garments for particular events and been sewing right to last minute - like you with walk away dress, and boy is that stressful!! I thought at one point you were going to cry due to frustration of not finishing- I empathised! I think having an alternative garment to fall back on a vital contingency- however doesn’t stop me burning the midnight oil hunched over the sewing machine! The worst is when making a garment for someone else and their deadline! Making a flamenco skirt for my daughter’s work carnival themed party…. Have you ever made flounces?! 🤦🏼♀️ Keep up the good work Bianca and give yourself plenty of time but above all be kind to yourself. X 😊
I think you did great and I know it was probably stressful but watching you trying to speed through it was entertaining. The editing was great. The end dress looks great on you and while you may not still love the fit, I think the bust and collar is one of the better fits I've seen done for the walkaway dress.
Thank you!! Jose knocked it out of the park with the editing- I think it's his best yet! For the dress- I did a few different muslins after pattern grading up and that was its own adventure. Lots of hacky, "just make it work" moments but at least the dress is wearable haha Thanks for watching!
Only watching the video I felt stressed out 🤣. That dress for me it's probably a week or more so 4 hours it's still really impressive. Maybe if you made it once the second is faster 🤔
Purchased at IKEA a couple years back, very similar to this shelving set here: www.ikea.com/us/en/p/kungsfors-suspension-rail-with-shelves-stainless-steel-bamboo-s89308355/ We painted it to give it the pops of gold and brown prior to setting it up!

Agreed!! The binding in the inside is such a nice detail@
Even though you are disappointed in the outcome, I LOVE how you styled it!

Slow, intentional sewing is more my pace, too! Definitely don't want to do a challenge like this again haha

Totally! There might also not have been a cat running around getting into all the sewing tools, either haha

If you decide to tackle it, I can't wait to see the video!
Working around the house in a tank with a regular bra and leggings. This is how I dress on my days off! Great job on the dress!
It turned out great! 4 hours is still able to be done between breakfast and lunch! i think its more realistic lol The video editing was so fun!

You did great
You did really well. My friend and me had so so many problems with it. Yes lots of adjusting
Kudos to you... I really like this dress on you, it fitted well. You look great in it. Do another in a different colour, it's that good. 🎉
This video was done so well! Blessings from Kansas!
I like video. It’s fun, different and she teach is easy way sew
So glad you liked it!
You are awesome! and I love his support of you...

Was that a bear claw? Yum
Close! Almond croissant. Rewatching the video prior to publishing definitely made me crave another one 😋
Speed sewing is not fun! It gave me anxiety just watching you 😂😂 When I’m sewing to a deadline I make ALL the mistakes😅
The algorithm is so lame! How did j never see this video?!
What is the shelving system on your wall?
