🏁🏁 MOSSY'S BACK!!! 🏁🏁 Great to see more Mossy mayhem on the 44 'tubes! Really cool little bike too that looks a lot of fun on tight twisty stuff and as pointed out doesn't flatter you like a more powerful bike but rewards accurate lines and big balls.....👊😎
As one who grew-up during the 70's/80's, this constant derogatory inflections of "only 44 HP" really irks me. Back then, we could ride 50 CC with pedals that could top 50 MPH or once we'd grown up a 250CC. Some of the 250's were advertised as "...100 MPH" (Suzuki X7) then even after the UK govt meddling insisted we weren't allowed bigger than 125 CC, the Asian manufacturers produced the likes of Yamaha 125 LC which could easily top the ton(so govt went for max BHP 15 per ton)or Italian Aprilia 125 CC with 33 BHP. I also remember being super chuffed @ finally grinding my footpegs whereas now it's all about "knee-down" I did many longish rides about the UK on 250's that were super fun(even with maybe 30 HP)so all the latest blurb about 150+ BHP being "it" is BS. I bought an 18 plate MT-09 Tracer that suits me for fun/commuting/MPG etc etc & will likely outlast me(as my body has been destroyed by being the local crash-test dummy in my cars[12x crashed into!]over the years)Back in the day, tyres that actually allowed you to corner w/o falling off were rare(Avon I believe offered reasonable tyres)whereas such as Pirelli etc weren't available. Frames on bikes were shite, I rode a CBR125 twin that wobbled so much it dumped me on the 1st bend I also rode a m8s Yamaha RS125 that nearly got me killed as mid-bend @ high speed a twat in a Volvo cut the corner on my side & avoidance led to my first taste of soil as full-face helmet's chin piece dug in furrowing soil straight into my mouth, thus obscuring the obscenities I was hurling at the driver of said Volvo. Having said all this, I love biking/bikers/bikes believe it or not & really wish many more in the UK would jump through all the hoops to get aboard modern machines. 9
@@Statek63 I love the 690 LC4 engine. Can realistically use 75hp on the road more than 120-130hp. The 690 based Kramer's have been having it away in the super mono classes with the EVO2 R, and it's so effing light. I'd love an 890r too, but the existing 390 frame could realistically take a 690 engine without much if any modification. The 890 would need a bit more work, hence why Kramer asks roughly £20k for the Evo2 R and over £32k for the GP2 890 R. More power meaning stronger frame and heftier components needed. KTM could sell a decent road going RC690 for £7.5-8.5k with WP apex and Brembos. Similar to an SMCR. Update, looks like the evo2r is £26k. Bennet's says you can buy the GP2 890 for £26k though, but I doubt they sell both bikes in the UK for the same price. No prices on the Kramer website and the US site states 32k dollars for the GP2
@@TheRtHonJimStiffOG I am hoping that KTM might build a road legal RC890, based on the LC8 engine and maybe using some parts from the Duke version - but then I also doubt it as it would not be compliant with the upcoming twin cylinder sportsbike class that will likely replace the former 600 class. It's more likely that such new sportsbike class would be limited to capacities around 660/675 or similar, but not almost 900. We will see...
@@Statek63 So, we may get a new Yamaha R9 based on the MT09 triple and basically there to replace the R6, as they can't produce 120-130hp from a 600 and meet the emissions regs. If this happens then other brands will follow suit, as that hp figure is seen as a bit of a sweet spot for sports bikes. Also like most things in life, these things go in cycles, people will buy their rs660s, R7, RC690??? And then they'll want that next step in power a few years later (Which isn't a 1000cc bike, they're too mental to be used for anything on the road regularly and not lose your licence), Ducati has the V2, but it's 150hp and a massive jump from an 80-100hp bike and once again too much power for the road in every day terms. The only thing that'll stop KTM making a sports bike bigger than the 390 is that they haven't made anything since the RC8R and said they wouldn't......I really hope they change their mind as I'd love to have a whole load of crazy orange Austrian sports bikes to buy one by one over the next 10 years
This and the 390 Duke are insanely good bikes, especially for the money. I thought after riding bigger bikes for the last 10 years would have made small engines feel boring, but the 390 Duke was an absolute blast and I'm seriously tempted to buy one. I testrode the older RC390 at the same time but it felt even taller than my old Daytona which was just too much for my short arse.
Honestly mate, Duke 390 is a beast! It's so much fun to ride you won't regret getting it. Lightweight and agile with a nice punch... I can't wait for another riding season to take it on the streets again.
Mossy you're a bloody gem, after doing track days on bigger bikes for 10 years, I gave one of these ago (previous model) just so much fun and taught me far more about cornering
I've picked up a brand new 390 duke four days ago as of posting this, and I can say its bloody great. Mossy's right, you don't need masses of power to have fun, it just brings a stupid grin to your face. and I have no doubt that the 390 rc is exactly the same, especially with that adjustable suspension and the aerodynamic body work!
I ride a 1290 SDR and a few months ago I got on the track with my dads mate, he’s 67 riddled with cancer and dying by the minute. He beat my ass through the corners and when I asked him how he rides so fast he said, “ I don’t have the energy to pull the brakes” I laughed and had to admit that the speed he could hold through the corners on that old sv1000 was admirable. These little RC 390s remind me of that, They can bite into turns and still hold a better line than a big bike can. Great little package I think, Would almost get one just for the track considering how cheap they are.
We ❤️ you Mossy! Love the smaller capacity bikes, they're so much fun on the road cause you can pin them (almost) everywhere & do the kind of things that, if you tried on a 1,000cc, you'd put yourself through a hedge 🙈
Since ‘99 I’ve known, that having great fun on a motorcycle, isn’t a result of how many horsepower it has. 1999 was the year I bought myself an NC30. I’m actually happy to see that small capacity sports bikes is returning.
Why is it shocking? You could have 300hp and still get spank by 44hp... no matter how powerful the bike, you can only go so fast around a tight turn..big bikes are a WASTE OF MONEY, unless you're paid to ride one or race for a living..
I absolutely love my 2017 RC390, but I've had a bit of electric issues with it, and I've owned it from new to now with just over 6000 miles on it. I love how magical it is on track, but I'm getting tired of replacing my crank angle sensors lmao.
Nice one Mossy! I probably had more fun on my old RD350 LC than any other bike I’ve owned. That was a similar weight (149kg) and power (47 hp). So I can well believe the 390 is a right laugh. My only reason for thinking it may not be quite as much fun now is I’m no longer 8 1/2 stone wet through 😂
I don't ride, I wanna ride and as much as I love seeing the lads smash around on the super bikes having this content helps me see what's out there for me excluding some 50cc thing. Top work.... I'll be on track some day.
Go for it before your to old and look back and wished you had fulfilled your dream there’s loads of little bikes out there that would put a smile on your face just as much as a big 1000cc bike would.
Mossy is undeniably entertaining. But, this is also a good review. He doesn't have a lot of preconceptions about the bike. Too many other reviewers will constantly repeat terms like 'beginner bike", "commmuter bike" etc. for anything less than a litre sportsbike. Special mention for the pliers orifice extraction and the Rok cameo.
I got the previous version to test when my Superduke SE was in at the dealer for it's maintenance. The first feeling : OMG, this feels like a 125cc :). But the more backroads you ride, the more you lean it over, you realize it's a weapon ! I've never ridden a true Supersport bike, but on the RC390 I felt like I was a MotoGP rider, even though it's power is ### :)
What an Awesome little bike👍. I’ve been a fan but always a little reluctant to purchase because of over heating issues with earlier models. Too many tales of cutting out in traffic and head gasket leaks. I’ve seen that KTM increased the radiator size on the adventure model with a combination of lowering the cut in temp for the fan. I don’t suppose that this model indicated any temperature issues during this press release. Especially riding on open roads and track. Great video 👍🎥
the bike no doubt is fun, however I never get to ride on my own and my daughter is sitting on the back seat helmet and leathers on before I have wheeled it out the garden. For this reason I am sticking with my S1000R bmw. I rode a TSR 125 round London for years on about 30 horsepower. Totally agree with the attraction of small bikes
Mossy, you're the man! I know this was a while ago and 390s are finally starting to show up in showrooms. My question is more about the prototype they had there that you rode. Did they mention anything about that becoming available? Would some of the parts become available like those race fairings? Seems like the supersport prototype was the star of the show and I'm wondering what it would take to build that or if they are just going to sell it like that...any insights on that? Looks like the power parts catalog still only has a slip on exhaust, but no fancy bits like you showed. @KTM please release more information about this bike!
Thanks Mossy, love to see this no track pitted against an original works Manx Norton, the same b.h.p. but would the handling be good enough on the old Norton to give the modern trick KTM a run for its money.
Always KTM fan....each models looks both aggressive and beautiful.I own 125 duke..really nice.i'm not able to afford to buy a 390.I Hope in the future I will.KTM is always my first priority bike brand .LOVE KTM❤️🥰
Great job Mossy! Was that Rok Bagoros showing off behind you? I had a Duke 690 for a few years, had a blast. That motor in this chassis would be very cool.
Mossy, what can I say you are an 'Urban leg-end'! I'd love one of these, but it would be good if there was some serious 250-400cc competition in this space. The Kawasaki Ninja ZX25r is similar power output, lighter but as focused as this but 'not for the uk market'. I think we need a good uk race series for teens on bikes like these and then 'Surprise! Surprise!' these bikes would have a market. Anyway, keep you end up and don't go forcing anything orange and rubbery into any other orifice!
Ordered this bike as soon as the dealer had an allocation for one, loved the styling... KTM changed the graphics and color layout after I placed the order and told me tough luck the bike looks different now.. Ill still enjoy the ride but really crappy end of the deal and customer service when asking why I didnt get the bike as advertised..
Never seen you here on 44T before but you are a true journo gent! Love the 'proper' review too. I bet you would love to test the RC8C. You should be given the invite for sure!
I've had a MV Agusta Dragster RR, a Monster 1200, a Monster 1100, and Ninja 250. Guess which of those bikes I had the most fun on? THE 250. I'm looking into getting this.

This bike is growing on me
Mossy, you're the man!
Raced and rode a 42 hp gs500e for several years. It was a great bang for your buck option.
Great to see Mossy again.
Black Orange combi looks 🔥
Best engine in a bike out of the smaller cc bikes made over the last decade easily.
Thanks Mossy, love to see this no track pitted against an original works Manx Norton, the same b.h.p. but would the handling be good enough on the old Norton to give the modern trick KTM a run for its money.
Good to see Shaun Anderson 👍 a top man!
More chance of understanding Eva than we do Mossy 🤣Only Teasing
Just got through watching an RC390 pull off a win on the Junior Cup over at MotoAmerica channel.
I love small capacity proper race bikes for the road. Shame i'm 6'3" otherwise i'd snap one up.
My local track. Expat, your comment on the worst corner is in fact the best one. Great vid can see you enjoyed it. 990 Superduke.

Traction control?.. reaaally?! Great job Mossy.
Mossy and his f%cking eloquence...
Do u think it would benefit from rearsets?
Mossy gets an instant like
These 390s are brilliant. But having a Duke, i only wish there was a 2 cylinder version, hence why I am waiting anxiously for the 490 series.
You are about 10kmh faster down the straight on the prototype bike, nice
I had brilliant fun on my Aprilia RS 250.
I'd have similar fun on these little 390s.
Mossy, sounded like you were blown away by 44hp on 44teeth. Love the get out my way overtakes. Haha nice review🤙🏼

Put this geezer on more, he's a grin
Love the 390. Such a lovable motorcycle
Wow. I have NEVER seen someone wearing the exact same Furygan jacket that I have.
I am waiting for someone to dare make a 500 cc luxury bike; premium quality with great suspension, great brakes and tech, light and around 75 bhp.
They already made one ZX4R
The man, the legend, just Mossy 😆😆💪💪
This video sold me. Good bye R3 hello Rc390!!
Will the old fairings and mask fit on the new? I like the features of the new but I prefer the look of the old.
Give this guy more reviews to do. He’s the fucking man. Disappointed he didn’t mention Rita Ora😂
Mossy is a quick boiii. Great video
A 490 (twin) version of this would be very welcome.

Good to see Shaun doing the translation
THE Most Perfect Review. Thank u 🤘
